Dass ein Whisky nicht den Namen seiner Brennerei tr\u00e4gt, ist hingegen der Tradition f\u00fcr schottische Whisky-Destillerien eher ungew\u00f6hnlich, allerdings wird der Single Malt der Knockdhu Distillery seit bald 30 Jahren unter dem Namen &#8222;An Cnoc&#8220; angeboten, gesch\u00e4tzt und genossen. Durch die &#8218;besondere&#8216; Namensfindung wurde nicht nur ein deutlicher Unterschied zum Speyside-Malt &#8222;Knockando&#8220; geschaffen, sondern zugleich auch das zu Unrecht &#8218;altmodische&#8216; Image von schottischem Whisky abgesch\u00fcttelt. Darum auch der Slogan &#8222;A modern tradition&#8220; von AnCnoc.<\/p>\n<p>Der Name der Brennerei &#8222;Knockdhu&#8220; bedeutet &#8222;schwarzer Berg&#8220;, abgeleitet von dem unweit der Distillery liegenden und \u00fcber 400 Meter hohen Berg &#8222;Knock Hill&#8220;. Gegr\u00fcndet wurde die in den schottischen Highlands liegende Knockdhu Distillery im Jahr 1894, nach dem John Morrison 1892 Land im Dorf &#8222;Knock&#8220; in Aberdeenshire im Nordosten Schottlands in den Highlands kaufte. Die Distillery steht f\u00fcr traditionelle Whisky-Herstellung mit Washbacks aus Holz zur Fermentierung mit Hefe, Kupferbrennblasen und klassischen Lagerh\u00e4usern f\u00fcr den Whisky.
