Recently, I met my companion for dinner at Undosa in Starnberg. We had already planned during the week to spend some time at Lake Starnberg over the weekend, and I was familiar with the restaurant from a breakfast I'd had many years ago on its large balcony, located directly on the shore and the lakeside promenade. I had tried to make a reservation in advance via email, but initially made a mistake with the time and booked for 7 pm. I was then informed of the winter opening hours (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm) and changed the reservation to the afternoon. For those who unfortunately don't have a car, it will be a somewhat longer journey to Undosa, as Starnberg is only accessible by public transport via the S-Bahn (suburban train) \u2013 certainly an alternative, but a relatively long trip. The view and location of Undosa are wonderful. As mentioned, it's situated right on the lake and perfect for a post-dinner stroll along the shore. Those who enjoy dining outdoors can do so either on the balcony I mentioned earlier or on the enormous adjoining terrace \u2013 overlooking Lake Starnberg. The pictures show what it looks like \u2013 definitely very inviting and lovely in the sunshine. Of course, in winter \u2013 when we were there \u2013 there was no service on either the balcony or the terrace. I imagine the opening hours are different in summer, and it's much busier than it was during our visit. After arriving, we first walked to the terrace at the back of the building to admire the lake. Once inside, up the stairs, and finally found the restaurant (we initially went through the wrong door into a larger "ballroom"), we were immediately greeted by a very friendly young waiter.<\/p>\n

I had requested a table in a quieter corner during the reservation process \u2013 this request was honored, and we were given a quiet table quite far back with a good view of the entire restaurant \u2013 which, despite the fully glazed side overlooking the lake, was rather dark. The ambiance is reminiscent of a sailing yacht club, undoubtedly intentionally so, with rattan seating, portholes in the brick walls, polished wood elements, a long bar in the entrance area, plastic orchids on the individual tables \u2013 less chic \u2013 cushions on the banquettes, and painted railings resembling ship's railings separating the individual dining areas. It offers seating for approximately 70 people at individual tables. Overall, it's a bit posh and quite cohesive. However, since it's quite dark and almost all the tables were empty (except for three or four others), the atmosphere was only so-so. The staff, however, were very friendly and helpful. We were asked what we would like to eat very quickly after taking our seats, but we needed a little longer and then turned our attention to the manageable menu.<\/p>\n

The first negative thing I noticed was that the menu shown online was different from the one we were actually presented with. I had originally ordered a goat cheese salad \u2013 which was then no longer available \u2013 but ended up having tomato soup with bread because, apart from two pasta dishes (ravioli filled with basil, ricotta, and sun-dried tomatoes for \u20ac9.50, or penne in salmon with a light white wine sauce and vegetables for \u20ac10.50), there were no other vegetarian options, and I didn't feel like pasta. I took a picture of the menu for you \u2013 the dishes probably change regularly, but this gives you an overview. All the dishes were reasonably priced. My companion's roast pork, at \u20ac11.90, was perfectly acceptable. The meat tasted exactly as a roast pork should. What was unusual was that the piece was cut very thick and was a bit tougher around the edges. The potato dumpling tasted rather bland \u2013 I tried it \u2013 and was made slightly more palatable by adding more salt, but it definitely wasn't very tasty. My tomato soup for \u20ac5.50 was intensely flavorful and quite filling. Combined with the accompanying bread, it was satisfactory overall, though certainly not a culinary highlight \u2013 there was nothing wrong with the soup itself. To drink, we chose a Coke and a Coke Zero. In total, including tip, we paid \u20ac30, which, considering the location, the ambiance, and the somewhat more refined atmosphere, was perfectly reasonable.<\/p>\n

For dessert, there was, for example, cake (e.g., warm chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream for 6.90 euros) from the small cake display case at the brightly lit bar, or oven-fresh, warm apple strudel for 5.90 euros \u2013 but we skipped dessert, mainly because it was already almost 7 pm and we were the second-to-last ones.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it's worth mentioning that on Sundays, from 10 am to 1 pm, they offer a "Prosecco Brunch" with unlimited Prosecco for \u20ac18.90. When I had breakfast there, I was very satisfied \u2013 unfortunately, I can't remember exactly what was on my plate. \ud83d\ude42 Card payments are accepted at Undosa. The service is excellent and they were always very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. Overall, there's nothing to complain about at Undosa. The food wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either (except for the dumpling). In summer, the location itself and the lake are definitely the highlights. It might be worth visiting again in the summer, perhaps for breakfast or a drink.<\/p>\n

I'll be back:\u00a0<\/strong>Generally, yes. However, I won't be making a special trip just for the food if I don't place much importance on the location.<\/p>\n
