Last night, my companion and I had dinner at Occam Deli. Many thanks to my colleague Fabian for the tip \u2013 it was a wonderful evening with overwhelmingly positive impressions. I reserved a table online for 9 pm, but we arrived earlier and were seated \u2013 about an hour early \u2013 in the cozy restaurant. Occam Deli is a slightly more expensive restaurant, located near M\u00fcnchner Freiheit, with plenty of flair, a comfortable ambiance, and a great atmosphere: dark floors, one entire side of the restaurant made of glass overlooking the street, brown leather banquettes and simple black chairs combined with simple tables \u2013 mostly for two \u2013 white-painted brick walls or wooden walls in the back, and small herb pots, wine bottles, tea bags, plants, and numerous decorative items placed on simple wooden shelves everywhere.<\/p>\n

Indeed, you feel immediately welcome and very well served upon entering. After being shown to our table and having our coats taken, we sat down, were presented with the menus, and a remarkably friendly blonde waitress explained the concept of Occam Deli to us. Occam Deli describes itself on its website as follows:\u201eDeli comes from delicacies and delis have their origin\u00a0<\/em>in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. They offer\u00a0<\/em>Jewish, American, Italian delicacies,\u00a0<\/em>French or Oriental, simply cosmopolitan\u00a0<\/em>Kitchen. And they mix it with the demands of the\u00a0<\/em>New York street life. So you can have breakfast, lunch\u00a0<\/em>or to eat dinner, the most essential basic foodstuffs\u00a0<\/em>shopping, as well as taking away food and drinks.\u201c\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Small portions (at not-so-small prices) are available, consisting of some rather unusual dishes \u2013 depending on your preference \u2013 which are then placed in the middle of the table after preparation and can be sampled at your leisure. Since the portions are relatively small, we were advised to order two dishes per person (a reasonable suggestion, although we were quite full afterward \u2013 so if you're not very hungry, you can also choose just two or three dishes), similar to a typical tapas concept. We followed this advice and, in addition to a still water and a Hugo (\u20ac3.50 and \u20ac5.50 respectively), chose four small main courses. One was from the specials menu, which was handwritten and leaning against the wall behind us, and three were from the regular dinner menu. According to my colleague, the menu changes quite frequently.<\/p>\n

After perusing the dinner menu, we chose the aubergine terrine with halloumi, tomatoes, and wild herb salad (\u20ac9.50), the beetroot cupcake with goat cheese and apple-kohlrabi salad (\u20ac8.50), the porcini ravioli with Madeira plums and black truffles (\u20ac11.00), and the warm pastrami sandwich with cucumber, coarse mustard, and coleslaw (\u20ac12.50). The ravioli and the goat cheese cupcake were the best \u2013 both very delicate and delicious. My companion had to tackle the pastrami sandwich alone \u2013 it was too meaty for me ;-). The server explained that this type of meat is quite difficult to source, which is why it's priced a bit higher and is considered a delicacy. There was nothing inherently wrong with it, although it was a bit too mustardy and also impractical to eat \u2013 two sandwiches consisting of thick slices of bread with an incredible amount of meat in between \u2013 practically inedible without a knife and fork. The eggplant terrine was the least to my liking. Too oily and cold \u2013 which I didn't realize was the intention, and I'm simply not a fan of cold food, which I've mentally categorized as "belonging hot." Very similar to a lasagna and beautifully presented \u2013 but I wouldn't order it again. I would devour the goat cheese and truffle ravioli (I love truffles! You absolutely must try them!) in a heartbeat. The two dishes were also roughly a reasonable portion for one person, so the two portions per person recommendation is accurate; you can best decide for yourselves based on your hunger and appetite.<\/p>\n

Card payments are accepted at Occam Deli. We paid \u20ac54 including tip, left satisfied and \u2013 at least for the most part \u2013 happy, and honestly answered the friendly waitress's question about whether we enjoyed our meal. Specifically, we mentioned the excessive amount of mustard on the sandwich and the oiliness of the terrine. All in all, I would definitely come back and try the small snacks again. As mentioned, the menu seems to change regularly. The daytime menu offers some reasonably priced dishes, some of which are identical or very similar to the evening menu. You can find both menus together by clicking on "Evening" or "Day" on the website. The restaurant is open from 8:00 AM Monday to Friday and from 9:00 AM on weekends. It might also be interesting to know that Occam Deli belongs to the Freebird, Kaisergarten, Theresa, and Seerose groups, all well-known restaurants in Munich \u2013 I still need to try them all. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

The service is definitely above average, and exceptionally good. The dishes were served a bit too quickly, in my opinion. The ambiance is very cozy and pleasant. It's on the pricier side, but just about reasonable \u2013 if the service weren't so great, it would be far too expensive. Give it a try; it's also ideal for first dates to prove "I'm not your average guy" \ud83d\ude09 or if you simply want a slightly more unusual dining experience. Enjoy your meal!<\/p>\n

I'll be back:\u00a0<\/strong>Generally, yes. Of course, you can occasionally make a mistake with a small dish, but overall it's a great concept with good execution.<\/p>\n
