However, I had to reschedule because we couldn&#039;t make it in time, which wasn&#039;t a problem and was handled kindly by the staff. When we finally arrived and entered the rather chic, very nicely designed \u2013 and almost empty \u2013 restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and interior design \u2013 the location isn&#039;t particularly inviting from the outside. A very friendly server greeted us right at the entrance, and I gave my name and reservation details. We were seated at a table near the front, but all but two of the approximately 10-12 tables in the restaurant were empty. When we left, well over half the tables were still free.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0 1em 1em 0; float: left; display: block; width: 340px; height: 300px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!-- google_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1770258545384845\"; \/* 336 x 280 Best Performer *\/ google_ad_slot = \"6442916218\"; google_ad_width = 336; google_ad_height = 280; \/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p>Immediately after we sat down, the menus, bound in a yellow leather cover, were placed in front of us, and we chose our drinks and food. For drinks, we ordered two 0.2l glasses of Pinot Gris for \u20ac5.50 each and a 0.3l bottle of water for \u20ac2.80. It took us a while to decide on our food. The menu was only moderately satisfactory for vegetarians, and since I didn&#039;t fancy plain old egg fried rice or noodles with vegetables, I opted for &quot;mi xao tom&quot;\u2014egg noodles with black tiger prawns, vegetables, scampi, and spring onions for a hefty \u20ac18.50. My companion also deliberated for a while but then decided on &quot;geang kiev wan pak&quot; (also vegetarian)\u2014Thai vegetables in a green curry coconut milk sauce (spicy) for \u20ac13.90. I tried the dish as well\u2014and yes: spicy! \ud83d\ude42 We also decided on two appetizers in advance. I chose &quot;cha gio chay&quot; \u2013 the baked vegetarian spring rolls for \u20ac5.50 \u2013 and &quot;tom bao bot&quot; \u2013 baked black tiger prawns for \u20ac7.50. The appetizers were served very quickly, and we didn&#039;t have to wait long after ordering. The vegetarian spring rolls were two pieces and very delicious, especially with the slightly sweet sauce served in a small bowl. My companion&#039;s prawns were rather a bit of a disappointment \u2013 a little too breaded and nothing special. While they tasted okay, they weren&#039;t worth \u20ac7.50. The empty plates were cleared very quickly after we finished the appetizers, and fresh cutlery was brought for the main courses. We ordered these at the same time as the appetizers, but then, even though the restaurant wasn&#039;t even half full, as mentioned, we had to wait quite a while for our main courses. We were having a nice chat, but the wait still seemed unusually long.<\/p>\n<p>My main course, the egg noodles with shrimp, was excellent. While not exactly cheap, it was really good value for the quantity and quality. I was full, my vegetables were great, and although I had to peel the shrimp myself, they were delicious and, as expected, quite large. \ud83d\ude42 My companion&#039;s main course also met our expectations. It would have been too spicy for me, but the menu did mention the spice level. The rice was fragrant and good, the sauce was plentiful and still palatable despite the spiciness. We were immediately offered more rice as soon as our bowl was empty. I&#039;d especially like to mention that I used the empty rice bowl for the shrimp tails, and the Asian waitress only removed it when she saw that all the shrimp in my main course had been peeled. I thought that was great. \ud83d\ude42 Overall, we were quite satisfied with our meal and would definitely come back. The restaurant&#039;s location isn&#039;t exactly fantastic. If you&#039;re using public transport, we recommend taking the U-Bahn (subway) from Bonner Platz and then walking for a short while. Parking isn&#039;t a major problem if you&#039;re arriving by car.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned, our waitress was exceptionally friendly. The restaurant definitely impresses with its service and interior design. Dark brown upholstered leather banquettes, tables with white tablecloths, and dark brown textured wallpaper with glitter, which fits perfectly into the rather dark and subtly lit restaurant. Tiled floors, an inviting, also subtly lit bar in the back of the restaurant, roses on the tables, dark chairs, a corner in the entrance area with a statue, flowers, and candles \u2013 reminiscent of a small temple \u2013 create a truly comfortable and inviting atmosphere for sitting, eating, relaxing, and unwinding.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#039;t like the dishes that my companion and I ordered, you can also check out the <a title=\"Menu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peony-lounge.de\/mediapool\/147\/1470116\/data\/Speisekarte.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Standard menu<\/a> You can choose from a variety of other dishes. For example, there are numerous different soups between \u20ac5.90 and \u20ac7.50, salads between \u20ac7.50 and \u20ac8.90, starters between \u20ac5.50 and \u20ac11.90, main courses\/wok dishes between \u20ac14.90 and \u20ac18.50, or a dish for two people for \u20ac22.50 which includes three different curries. There are also special menus, also designed for two people, which, at \u20ac31.50 or \u20ac33.50, are not exactly inexpensive. Desserts are, of course, also available at the Peony Lounge. These range from \u20ac4.90 up to \u20ac7.50 (e.g., baked bananas with coconut flakes, mango, cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>We paid \u20ac62 including tip. Not a cheap evening, but a lovely one with delicious food in a great atmosphere. So if you&#039;re looking for a good Thai\/Asian restaurant, you certainly won&#039;t go wrong here. There&#039;s also outdoor seating for summer evenings. <a title=\"Lunch menu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peony-lounge.de\/mediapool\/147\/1470116\/data\/Mittagskarte.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lunch menu<\/a> There are also main courses available, ranging from \u20ac7.50 to \u20ac10.90, which in my opinion isn&#039;t exactly cheap for Asian and Thai cuisine at lunchtime, but still reasonable. The restaurant is open Monday to Friday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm (lunch menu applies) and Monday to Sunday from 6:00 pm to 11:30 pm. Hot food is served until 11:00 pm. So you can stop by very late, even if you&#039;re hungry, and enjoy good Asian food. Have fun!
