How to make perfect milk foam Do you enjoy drinking coffee? If so, you're one of those typical Germans who drink an average of three to four cups a day. I don't drink quite that much, but I still love starting my mornings with a delicious cappuccino. Its success and quality depend not only on the beans used, but even more so on the perfect milk foam. Isn't it wonderful when, for example, your hot drink arrives at your table in a café perfectly frothed with a beautiful head of milk foam, and you can sip it right away? Or when you can always froth milk perfectly at home and impress your loved ones and guests with your "barista skills"? 🙂 I think it's fantastic! That's why today I'm giving you a little tutorial on "How to make perfect milk foam." I'll tell you how to froth it correctly and why the "Weihenstephan Barista Milk," available since September 2020, is perfect for it.
Weihenstephan Barista Milk and what makes it special
I've already explained to you in the past that milk isn't the same as regular milk – back then I was allowed to participate in a Milk tasting The taste of milk is primarily influenced by various factors. For example, the different fat contents, the classification as UHT or fresh milk, and numerous other criteria play a crucial role in the specific taste of good milk. Milk must also meet certain criteria and properties to froth perfectly. That's why, for over a year now, there's been the perfect milk for true coffee lovers: Weihenstephan Barista Milk. With it, every milk foam turns out perfectly, as it was specially developed for frothing hot drinks – never drink a latte without a milk foam crown again! Naturally, you're now wondering what's "different" about this milk and why it froths better than other milks.
The "secret to perfect frothing" with Weihenstephan Barista Milk – which, by the way, is UHT milk – lies in both its fat and protein content. With a fat content of three percent and a protein content of four percent – achieved through the enrichment of milk protein – the milk has a special composition that makes perfect milk foam a breeze for everyone. It tastes full-bodied and creamy – a flavor it gets from careful and gentle processing. This is achieved because it is only ultra-high-temperature heated for a brief three seconds during production. An additional advantage of Weihenstephan Barista Milk: its special production method and composition allow it to blend seamlessly with your coffee, and you can finally say "goodbye!" to those annoying milk foams that linger in your cup or glass without ever actually reaching your mouth.
Here's a little more "know-how" from two-time German Barista Champion and milk frothing expert Tom Schweiger:
How to make perfect milk foam
You don't need to be a coffee expert or even a barista to use Weihenstephan Barista Milk correctly. Once you know what to look out for, you too can create perfect milk foam. This works best if you store the Barista Milk in the refrigerator before frothing and then heat it to a maximum of 60 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, it has ideal foaming and frothing properties. It's best to use a thermometer in the pot and monitor the temperature, or set it on your machine. If you heat the milk to a higher temperature, it won't work as well.
Frothing milk isn't rocket science, and a good steam wand or a high-quality milk frother will do the work for you. If you've heated and frothed it correctly, your milk foam with Weihenstephan Barista Milk will be fine-pored, glossy, stable, and creamy. It pours perfectly into your coffee cup. By the way: If you've ever wanted to try your hand at latte art, Barista Milk provides the perfect base. That's the secret! This is how you achieve perfect milk foam. 🙂
Hard facts
Weihenstephan Barista Milk has a shelf life of at least three months when unopened – definitely a plus if you don't drink much coffee and want to store the milk and use it as needed without worrying about its expiration date. Impressing unexpected guests with perfect milk foam will no longer be a problem. I always keep a few liters in my pantry for delicious coffee and milk drinks. Of course, you can also use the milk for baking, cooking, and drinking it straight – but it's specifically designed as barista milk. You can buy it in any well-stocked supermarket outside the refrigerated section. Finally, a fun fact: We Germans especially love coffee creations with a very high milk content, and cappuccino, latte, and café au lait are more popular here than almost anywhere else.
