1. Blue Buck

In a recent Facebook post I previously reported that from June 1st to 30th, 2016, Austria's largest wine-growing region, the Weinviertel, would be showcased in 14 selected restaurants. During this period, I had the wonderful task of individually reviewing these 14 restaurants and reporting back to you. A few days ago, the 30-day campaign "Weinviertel in Your Neighborhood" kicked off, starting at the first of the fourteen restaurants: Restaurant Blauer Bock.

I recently told you about the Blauer Bock restaurant – number 1 of a total of 14 restaurants participating in the "Weinviertel in Your Neighborhood" campaign in June. If you'd like to read about it again or missed the first article, you can find it here. here Let me reread it. It hasn't even been two hours since I was sitting in Halali, enjoying my starter and main course and sniffing the delicious white wine from Julius Klein. Now I want to tell you about it. The Halali restaurant has been around since 2006, meaning it's celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and is run by the successful chefs Hubert Buckl and Hans Reisinger.

3. Restaurant essence

The restaurant essence is located in Pasing. If you stop reading now because the thought "too far out" comes to mind, you're missing out – without exaggeration – on a top-notch restaurant. That said, you can reach Pasing in about 15 minutes by public transport (tram, bus, or S-Bahn almost directly to the restaurant) or by car. I recently visited to sample the wines from the Weinviertel region and try the food, and to get a feel for it. I'd like to share my experience with you now.

Weinviertel in Deinem Viertel 2016

4. Freisinger Hof

Located on the high banks of the Isar River, the restaurant has been open since 1995. It is part of the adjacent, country-style Hotel Freisinger Hof and is known for its upscale cuisine. The moment I stepped inside, I was eager to learn more about the restaurant and the hotel, as well as, of course, the cuisine and the excellent wines on offer. Currently, four more wines from the Weinviertel region have been added to the Freisinger Hof's extensive wine list. The restaurant can accommodate up to 100 people at its 27 tables.

Restaurant Bavarian National Museum | Weinviertel in your neighborhood – 5 of 14

Weinviertel in Deinem Viertel 2016

5. Bavarian National Museum

Opened in 2011, the restaurant is located on Prinzregentenstrasse and is hard to miss, as the roofs of the Bavarian National Museum tower high into the sky, higher than most of the buildings on the street. The imposing, massive building itself is a tempting invitation to enter. And as soon as you catch a glimpse of the terrace with its seating from outside, your curiosity is piqued, and you find yourself in the middle of the restaurant area with its spacious front garden, complete with a fountain, terrace, and courtyard.

5. Österia

In this cozy restaurant with its antique parquet floors, soaring stucco ceilings, and numerous well-stocked wine racks, 36 to a maximum of 60 people can be seated at tables already set with fresh flowers – depending on the seating arrangement and occasion. Red chairs, comfortable benches, portraits of Empress Elisabeth (Sissi) adorn the walls, and wine bottles are everywhere you look. In good weather, six additional tables for four people along the facade can accommodate 24 more guests, who can enjoy fine dishes and delicious wines.

Weinviertel in Deinem Viertel 2016

6. Landersdorfer and Innerhofer

The restaurant, which opened in 2000, doesn't have a menu. Here, it's customary to let the kitchen team surprise you, resulting in spontaneous and fun cuisine. And that's something the (regular) guests really appreciate. At lunchtime, there's a small, not-too-filling set menu for €25, which the friendly staff, or even Mr. Innerhofer himself, will present to you at your table. The menu includes soup or salad, a main course – sometimes fish, sometimes meat – and a small dessert.

7. Restaurant Ebert

A truly special experience awaits you at this restaurant, which opened in October 2014 and seats around 30 people. You might not discover its unique charm immediately upon entering or at first glance at the handwritten menu on the wall, but you'll certainly notice it after sitting at your table for a while, especially after being served by the owner and server, Alexander Ebert, and having had some time to look around. At least, that's how it was for me: Restaurant Ebert truly uplifted me, and I left in a much better mood than I've rarely experienced in a restaurant.

Immediately after the weekend, my testing series for the "Weinviertel in Your Neighborhood" campaign continued. Restaurant number 9 took me to the Bavarian inn at Bavariapark, run by Philip and Sabine Sedgwick. Mr. Sedgwick was incredibly kind and attentive throughout my entire visit, answering all my questions and keeping me company while I tasted and ate Weinviertel wines. Now I'd like to tell you about it.

Weinviertel in Deinem Viertel 2016

9. Little Wolf

This time, my destination was Little Wolf – a small and cozy smokehouse and diner (about the size of an average living room) on Pestalozzistraße, near Sendlinger Tor. Little Wolf opened in February of this year and focuses on meat, meat, and more meat – and (pardon the expression!) incredibly good meat at that. (Vegetarians can continue reading…) From smoked beef ribs to smoked beef brisket (each with BBQ sauce for €24 or €16 respectively), to pastrami sandwiches with pickles, …

11. Principal

I'm sure you've all passed by it at least once, or perhaps you've even eaten there – for example, before going to the theater or just for a casual dinner. I'm talking about the Restaurant Prinzipal. It's located right next door to the beautiful Prinzregententheater in the same building. The owner and operator of Prinzipal, who is also the restaurant manager, sommelier, and winemaker, gave my companion a short tour of the restaurant before our meal, and I was quite impressed. The reason for my visit was my product testing series for the "Wine Quarter in Your Neighborhood" campaign in Munich.
