my CHIPSBOX – high-quality chips put to the test – It's often said that you're either a chocolate person or a chips person – meaning you prefer either sweet or salty. I've never quite understood that, because I'm always up for both. I enjoy both, but today my focus is on the salty side – the chips. Specifically, the special chips from my CHIPSBOX. Admittedly, I don't eat chips all that often, but when I do, I really enjoy them. Nevertheless, or perhaps precisely because of this, I pay close attention to which chips I reach for when I crave them, how they were produced, and what their ingredients are. The endless shelves of chips in the store don't exactly make things easier. In short: I was looking for something new in the vast world of chips. Something that would surprise me with its taste and deliver that essential "wow" factor. I'd already heard of my CHIPSBOX before this endeavor, and so I recently had a reason to take the plunge. No sooner said than done. Off to the website and time to shop for chips.

my CHIPSBOX – what's behind it?

My CHIPSBOX is a startup that has developed its own mission out of a passion for chips. Since this is largely about "food and enjoyment"—just like my job—it's a more than understandable goal. Okay, but why try these and not others, and what's behind them? First of all—even before I tasted them—I was impressed by the selection of different varieties and the quality of each box. Even though chips aren't exactly found between diet products and healthy vegetables in the supermarket, there are clear differences. With each of the six varieties, attention is paid to both natural ingredients and creativity in the respective flavor combinations. So, the founders of My CHIPSBOX (and I) needed an alternative, and if we were going to do it, we were going to do it right!

The end result is impressive, and all my CHIPSBOX chips are organic, vegan, gluten-free, and completely free of flavor enhancers (such as MSG and yeast extract). Sounds good, right? And—no!—not too "healthy" or only suitable for "eco-freaks" in a nutritional sense, as some might think. On the contrary, my CHIPSBOXes combine fine potato chips with crispy vegetable and fruit chips—air-dried with meticulous attention to detail. The third plus, even before ordering, in my opinion: the packaging! No plastic, but a stylishly designed black cardboard chip box. The chips themselves are then individually wrapped in a small bag to guarantee freshness and shelf life. While the boxes are a bit bulkier than bags, they are more convenient, cleaner, and more elegant. Since I've never been good at making decisions – whether about life's purpose or which type of chips to buy – I opted for the six-pack sampler from the online shop, featuring all the "Organic Chips Duet" varieties. That's what each of the 90-gram my CHIPSBOXes is called. Six 90-gram packages, six varieties, six organic, and six times the variety of top-quality taste and quality – that's the promise. The ones on the shelf only cost €1.29, but they're usually rubbish and certainly weren't developed through months of tinkering and experimentation by food technologists and nutritionists. Proper etiquette would dictate opening and tasting one of the six boxes first, and then neatly storing the others in the pantry. No, no, not for me! After all, I had to find my favorite. I unpacked all six varieties at once, tasted them all, and compared them. Tastes vary, and after each of the six, I was truly glad that I didn't have to decide—like the my CHIPSBOX team once did—which varieties would ultimately be released. Because I don't think it's that easy to please everyone's taste, and you'll discover your favorite while testing them.

My favorites were clear and without a doubt: "Curry and Pineapple" and "Beetroot" as far as the two-flavor combinations go. "Zucchini" is my number one among the three single flavors (savoy cabbage, beetroot, and zucchini) in terms of taste. I truly didn't dislike any of the varieties; my personal favorite was "Smoked Paprika." The "Curry Pineapple" chips, on the other hand, should win over anyone who prefers a sweeter taste. What all the varieties have in common is a crispy bite and intense flavor. Each box also contains air-dried vegetable chips alongside the potato chips. You know that feeling with tea, for example, when you smell it and think, "Wow, that smells good!", then you add water and it tastes like nothing? That's not the case here! You taste what you smell, and you smell what you taste. Even with my eyes closed, I could instantly recognize each variety in my mouth – the individual components are perfectly balanced in each box.

90 grams is roughly twelve to fifteen handfuls of chips and ideal for a relaxing evening alone or with a partner. I like the texture – not all chips are created equal – the quantity per box, and of course, the aroma and taste. You'll have to find your own favorite, but if you prefer something sweeter, start with "Beetroot" or "Curry Pineapple." Those who like it spicier should choose the curry or the tomato-basil combination. Zucchini is rather mild, and Savoy cabbage has a "quite healthy" flavor, but it's not bad either. I was very impressed that none of the varieties had a "familiar" taste.

Personal conclusion

So, the question(s) of all questions: a) Are the my CHIPSBOXes a good, natural, and high-quality alternative to unhealthy "couch-chips-leave-me-alone" evenings, and b) is the price-performance ratio right? I think yes and yes! Of course, before you order, you should have a clear understanding of quality and the "clear difference" when it comes to "not all chips are created equal." "Cheaper" options are always available, but what goes into them is crucial. If you just want to shovel in chips without giving it much thought or "wanting to taste" them—don't pretend you're unfamiliar with that 🙂—then you should save the premium organic snacks for later. But if you consciously and healthily want to indulge every now and then (…eating is never a sin, but always a pleasure!…), then in my experience, you've discovered a clear winner here. (No problem! – You're welcome! ;-)).

Oh yeah… I even dipped some of the chips in little bowls filled with dip and experimented a bit with the flavors. So, treat yourself and try the different boxes.
