The premiere of the monthly event series "WINE and DINE" took place on January 26th, and it continues on February 23rd, 2018.Learn more about WINE and DINEThe second event, WINE and DINE in February, will once again feature a fantastic menu, top-notch wines – combined with interesting insights from winemakers and sommeliers on site – and plenty of enjoyment. The second WINE and DINE event will take place at La Bohème in Schwabing. Come join us, and let's look back and forward together…
WINE and DINE – That was the first event at ViniPuri 2.0
The first WINE and DINE event at ViniPuri 2.0 was right up my alley. Warm hospitality was skillfully combined with excellent cuisine, superb Italian wines, and engaging, concise wine information – provided whenever a glass was poured. Course after course, exciting creations were served, without any exaggeration or unnecessary fuss on the plate. The menu (see the article linked above) may have initially seemed quite classic, but both the presentation and the sheer variety of flavors offered left room for some delightful surprises on the palate.
The evening began with an aperitif ("Altinum" Trento Brut DOC 2014), which was deliberately served before the meal started, allowing guests to chat with each other over a first glass of wine before the official start. In fact, WINE and DINE is intentionally designed so that each table or couple doesn't operate in isolation, but rather that participants in the event can easily connect with other food enthusiasts. At ViniPuri 2.0, this was beautifully achieved with round tables. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and welcoming – a feeling of well-being is guaranteed.
Once all the guests are seated, about 20-30 minutes after arrival, the first course begins fairly quickly. In this case, it's house-cured salmon with apple and celery salad, dark rye bread, and sour cream mousse – no unusual or seemingly "new" components, but very artfully presented. The connoisseur immediately recognizes that the ingredients are exceptional and of the highest quality. Naturally, the selected wine, a "Chardonnay BioVegan DOC 2016," harmonizes perfectly with it. The delightful experience continued shortly after: a "Traminer Enopere Superiore DOC 2016" paired with the mildly spicy pumpkin and ginger soup and satay skewer. Then came the "San Zeno Riserva DOC 2013" with the two preparations of beef, bacon-wrapped green beans, and potato gratin. The evening, and the menu itself, concluded with a "Moscato Flumen DOC 2015," whose pleasant sweetness elegantly complemented the chocolate crème brûlée with pear and vanilla ice cream. Although I'm not usually a fan of overly soft and creamy desserts, I happily lowered my spoon and even declined the final espresso to savor the wine and food on my palate a little longer.
All in all, a very successful evening that was neither too dry nor monotonous, nor did it fall short of expectations in terms of cuisine. Even as I was leaving ViniPuri 2.0 and saying goodbye to the warm and welcoming hosts, I knew I wanted to be a guest at WINE and DINE number two at the end of February 2018. So, let's see what awaits us, shall we?
February 2018: WINE and DINE at La Bohème
The second WINE and DINE event will once again stay true to its motto: "A multi-course menu including high-quality wine pairings, water, and coffee at an attractive price." As a participant, you can expect not only the friendly host Michael Urban – a trained bartender and chef with experience in Michelin-starred restaurants – at La Bohème in Schwabing, but also exquisite German-French cuisine served in the legendary bohemian atmosphere of 1900. With his first restaurant, La Bohème, Michael Urban fulfilled his dream and has been serving top-level cuisine ever since – without getting bogged down in unnecessary details. This expertise is also reflected in the restaurant's extensive wine list, which features predominantly German wines, as well as Austrian and French vintages from excellent winemakers. I'm already looking forward to it.
The February menu at La Bohème
Unlike ViniPuri 2.0, La Bohème serves five courses instead of four. The accompanying selection of top wines, water, and coffee remains the same. The price per person is €99. The meal begins with an amuse-bouche, followed by a "Cipriani" carpaccio of Simmental beef fillet with marinated shiitake mushrooms, shavings of Andechser Uri cheese, and mushroom mayonnaise. Next comes a lobster bisque, followed by sea bass on pearl barley risotto with bouillabaisse sauce. The main course is braised veal cheeks with balsamic shallots, romanesco, and celery root purée. Last but not least, the fifth and final course, dessert, is a lava chocolate cake with Thai tea gel and sour cream ice cream. Of course, on the evening of February 23rd, the corresponding wines will be presented by the winemaker himself, and the evening will be guided through in a relaxed atmosphere.
