New: BOWLS & BLENDERS at Rosenkavalierplatz – Few culinary trends have taken off as quickly and endured as long as bowls. Bowls are not only popular and usually healthy, but they're also available in all sorts of variations, colors, and recipes in Munich. One of the first restaurants to embrace the bowl trend was "Bowls & Blenders." This popular spot in the Maxvorstadt district opened almost three years ago, offering cold and hot bowls as well as delicious blenders. Recently, at the end of November 2019, a second "Bowls & Blenders" location opened. I've sampled my way through their selection for you.

Since November 25, 2019, you can now also enjoy bowls and blenders at Rosenkavalierplatz. The second and brand-new Bowls & Blenders location has opened at Elektrastraße 6. Inside, the invitingly designed shop offers seating for about ten guests, and from March 2020, there will also be an outdoor terrace for approximately 15 more bowl enthusiasts. The motto here, of course, is the same: healthy, varied, and delicious! The menu is identical to that of the Bowls & Blenders location on Augustenstraße. It is also displayed at the new Bowls & Blenders on Rosenkavalierplatz in the form of handwritten descriptions with colorful graphics above the order counter.
Let's take a look at the menu: Divided into "Breakfast Bowls," "Bowls," and "Blenders," it clearly presents 12 different bowls, plus the additional option to create your own bowl according to your own taste ("Visionary Bowl" from €11.60, with either chicken flakes, pulled pork, pulled turkey, or falafel as a protein base and up to five different toppings. Various add-ons can be added for an extra €1 each). The menu changes seasonally, once in summer and once in winter, depending on the outside temperature. So there's always the right bowl – whether for refueling, warming up, or starting the day healthy with fruit. Personally, I've found that there's always something on the menu that I'm in the mood for. I've never left Bowls & Blenders with the excuse, "Tried it all!" or "Nothing here!".
The bowls in the test
During my visit, I had the opportunity to sample the entire menu. I discovered several new bowls. It's worth noting that one bowl from Bowls & Blenders is usually enough to satisfy your hunger. If you also order one of their seven different blenders, you'll definitely be full and have a healthy drink to go with it. Alternatively, the store's built-in refrigerator offers a variety of other chilled beverages, such as Nupsy, Teaz, Proviant Lemonade, organic crystal water, Balis Lemonade, and Super Drink.
Now, let's get to the bowl! First, I got to try the "Nihongo Bowl." Nihongo means "laugh" in Japanese—a clever name for this bowl, because you'll definitely be smiling after trying this delicious bowl with sesame tuna, edamame, goma wakame, avocado, wasabi sprouts, sauce, and lime (for €14.90). It's really good, and therefore my first recommendation. The tuna is of superb quality, and it quickly becomes clear that the ingredients for each bowl weren't just thrown together, but carefully considered and skillfully combined. Next, I tried a bowl from the "Breakfast Bowls" category. These breakfast bowls range in price from €8.30 to €9.30. The "Pur Pur Bowl," which I got to try as a "start to the day," is not only visually appealing but also ideal for those watching their waistline. Made with strawberries, blueberries, banana, dates, açai, cranberries, and cranberry juice, topped with granola, berries, and goji berries, this bowl is a real power booster! It will give you plenty of energy and prepare you for the cold days ahead. Plus, it will keep you full for a long time.
For my third bowl, and so I could try as much as possible, they prepared a "Wellbeing Buddha Bowl" for me. Why? – I wanted to try the vegan option. There was nothing boring about it. For €8.90, it came with sweet potato, pumpkin cream, pink hummus, edamame, baby leaf salad, peanut butter, balsamic sauce, and cashews. Sounds delicious, doesn't it? Last but not least, a fourth and final bowl, which also came with one of their delicious Blenders served in a glass (or, to go, in a paper cup). First, let's talk about the liquid power: I drank an "Immuniti" Blender (€6.90), which, with coconut water, ginger, mint, cucumber, hemp protein, and dates, was the perfect complement to my healthy bowl. I love cucumber, so I was delighted by the refreshing taste. At just under €7, the Blenders are a bit pricey, but thanks to their nutritious and healthy ingredients, they're also quite filling. In my fourth bowl: the visually striking "Django Bowl," which was my personal favorite with pulled turkey, sweet potato, cowboy caviar, avocado, mango, banana chips, mango-coconut sauce, and coriander (for €10.80). It's very filling and provides you with vitamins at the same time. Thumbs up!
Interesting facts about bowls & blenders
In addition, they offer "special drinks" such as "Turmeric Latte" with espresso, almond milk, turmeric, and cinnamon; chai latte; hot chocolate; and other coffee-based hot drinks and teas. The bowls—like all the Blenders products—can be enjoyed on-site at one of the wooden tables or green upholstered benches, or taken away in an eco-friendly container. Conveniently, both Bowls & Blenders locations provide information on calories, carbohydrates, and protein for each bowl, further supporting a healthy and mindful diet.
If you're planning a visit: Parking can be a bit of a challenge, depending on the time of day and day of the week, but you'll usually find a spot. Alternatively, you can park for free for one hour in the underground car park if you're shopping at the attached Rewe supermarket. Another option is the U4 subway line (Arabellapark station), which is practically right outside. You can pay with cash or card. Definitely stop by and bring a few hungry friends. That way, everyone can try a different bowl, and you might even be able to share a bite with your cutlery, allowing you to sample a wider variety. I'm sure that once you've been there, you'll want to come back again and again. I've been very satisfied with all my visits to Bowls & Blenders. The friendly service certainly adds to the experience. So give it a try and enjoy some delicious bowls!
