Weihenstephan Fruit Buttermilk | Product Review – Some time ago I told you about the new Weihenstephan Creamy Yogurt Apricot I previously announced that I would be taking a closer look at several products – some of them new – from the Weihenstephan range. Now the time has come, and I've tested the second product: Weihenstephan Fruit Buttermilk in various flavors. Since May 2016, the Fruit Buttermilk has also been available in the refreshing "Mango" flavor – complete with fine pieces of fruit. I don't know about you, but mango is always a good idea. Whether as ice cream, body lotion, sourbet, or even fruit buttermilk – mango always reminds me of a sunny vacation day with fresh fruit, sunshine, and the sea.
Weihenstephan fruit buttermilk in various varieties
Weihenstephan fruit buttermilk has been available in four different varieties since May: strawberry, raspberry, multi-fruit, and – the newest addition – mango. I bought all four varieties at once and tasted them. I tried the fruit buttermilk both on its own as a kind of "snack on the go" and as a breakfast drink at a big breakfast with friends on the weekend. The clear winner in terms of taste (not only in my opinion) is the new mango variety, which impressed me the most during the tasting. Although I'm a huge berry fan, and as soon as a product has the flavor "strawberry, raspberry, etc.", it's usually already a winner – I still found myself reaching for the mango fruit buttermilk again and again during my breakfast.
The combination of fresh buttermilk and a fruity, yet not overpowering, mango flavor with delicious little pieces of fruit is refreshing, unique, and, in my opinion, satisfying all at once. My next favorite is the raspberry and strawberry variety. However, all varieties share one thing in common: they are based on the original, pure Weihenstephan buttermilk recipe. The base of the fruit buttermilk is therefore always the same; its refinement comes solely from the addition of natural and distinct flavorings. The fruit buttermilk is produced without preservatives, using a gentle process and without heat treatment.
What I particularly love about this fruit buttermilk is its creamy consistency with every sip. It's not too thick, but it's not like regular milk either. Thanks to the gentle production process, the valuable nutrients and this creaminess are preserved. I have to admit that a whole glass of fruit buttermilk was a bit too much for me – at least alongside a hearty breakfast. In this respect, the integrated screw cap proved very practical – a clear advantage, in my opinion, compared to fruit buttermilk in a carton. Simply screw it on, put it in the fridge, and enjoy it later whenever you want. (Keep it refrigerated at all times!) The small, handy packaging also makes it easy to slip the fruit buttermilk into your bag when you're out and about.
The difference to other fruit buttermilks
For me, Weihenstephan fruit buttermilk tastes significantly different from others. It doesn't taste artificial or overly intense of the specific fruit, but rather mild and light. While the buttermilk is pleasantly filling, it doesn't weigh down the stomach unnecessarily. If a food I usually eat in the morning is too sugary, sweet, or heavy, I quickly feel unwell for the rest of the day. With Weihenstephan fruit buttermilk – regardless of the variety – it's exactly the opposite. It's ideal as a snack, as a breakfast accompaniment, as a little pick-me-up during a stressful day, or simply as a small treat anytime.

The Weihenstephan dairy
Via Weihenstephan
The Weihenstephan dairy has made it its mission to serve the premium segment of dairy products. Around 380,000 liters of milk, 320,000 cups of yogurt and buttermilk, and 60,000 sticks of butter are produced every single day. Incredible, isn't it? That's roughly 300 million dairy products a year. Whether it's milk, cocoa, cream, butter, fruit or natural yogurt, fruit quark, or buttermilk, the range is extensive, with over 70 different products from the brand available in the refrigerated section. One of them is the new "Mango" fruit buttermilk.
I will buy this product again: Yes.
