Slow Food Munich – The two-day „Slow Food Munich – The Spring Market“ is coming to Munich and bringing the farm right to the city. More precisely: this coming weekend, so the 9th and 10th of May (each day from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm) The time has come. Maienzeit Carrée at Lindwurmstraße 122 It takes place and features exclusively Bavarian producers whose products meet the strict Slow Food criteria. But what exactly is the market? What is there to see, and why am I telling you about it? 🙂 Quite simply, because the Slow Food market will be of interest to anyone who enjoys good food, is consciously concerned with healthy eating, and prefers high-quality, artisanal products. A total of 23 producers will present their handcrafted goods and products, answer questions, offer tastings, and sell their wares.
In the courtyard of the Slow Food Market, numerous street food stalls will be set up under colorful pagodas. Scattered among them are tables with white tablecloths for eating and drinking. Bakers, butchers, chocolatiers, a cheese market featuring Bavarian farm dairies, the finest sauces, and much more await you in the exhibition spaces of the market hall and gallery. Of course, there will also be a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including a wine forum with Bavarian winemakers, fine fruit distillers, fruit juices from Lake Ammersee, and craft beer from local breweries. As you can see, there's plenty to discover.
The Munich Spring Market will launch with various themes and areas. For example, the Slow Food Munich Spring Market – especially for those of you who enjoy growing your own vegetables and watching them grow – will offer the opportunity to buy heirloom and rare tomato, potato, pepper, and cucumber plants from plant breeders for your own garden or balcony planter. You can also purchase a selection of diverse wildflower seeds to attract bees to the city.
As for the food, the Bilou cooking school and the "Stenz" restaurant will be on hand. They will also be preparing the four-course menu featuring regional cuisine for Saturday evening at the Maienzeit Carree. More precisely: Following its great success in 2014, "Die Tafel" (The Table) will once again be held on Saturday evening, featuring a table set with white tablecloths for over 100 guests. Slow Food enthusiasts and friends of fine cuisine will gather to eat together, exchange ideas, and enjoy a relaxed evening. Beforehand, a delicious aperitif will be served in the courtyard during a convivial get-together, accompanied by fresh bread and barrel organ music at the "Stenz." Sounds wonderful, doesn't it? As mentioned, four exciting courses featuring Slow Food specialties will be served, along with Bavarian wine and beer, as well as award-winning brandies from the fine fruit distillers at the market stalls. The menu includes herring and apple salad with wild herbs, wild garlic cream soup with roasted almonds, veal entrecote with asparagus spears, hollandaise sauce and new potatoes, and, to top it all off, the dessert selection "Stenz & Elli". The four-course menu costs a reasonable €39 for Slow Food members and €49 for non-members. Here You can register, find out more about the event and book your ticket.
In addition to the exhibition on "Urban Gardening," there will be lectures and insights into the topic "What will food look like in the future?", a reading by the chairman of "Opflanzt is!", and short presentations by two farmers from the Upper Bavarian region who will speak about the "state of agriculture." Furthermore, "Slow Food Youth Munich" will be presenting itself, and there will be planting instructions and guided tasting walks.
The event is being hosted and organized (as well as) by Streetwine 1.0. (which I also told you about back then) from Culinarium Bavaricum. So, from now on, it's twice a year: sowing and planting in the spring and harvesting and preserving in the autumn – Slow Food Munich is forging its own path with the Munich Spring Market. Of course, I'll be there next weekend and I'm curious to see how much interest Munich residents have in regional products and the artisanal production of healthy, local goods. I personally really like the Slow Food concept and I'll definitely be taking a look around the lovely spring market, strolling around at my leisure, sampling some treats here and there, and buying a regional product or two. Want to join me? Try some delicious little tomatoes, learn a bit about cultivation, or maybe even about urban gardening?
