The small shop "Sunny Food" in the Maxvorstadt district stands for healthy eating in the form of delicious smoothies, or more precisely, "green smoothies," and has been offering them since the beginning of December 2014. I recently visited with a friend during my lunch break to experience the delicious smoothies for myself. Sunny Food offers a wide variety of smoothies, all healthy and made with diverse ingredients. You're probably wondering what exactly a green smoothie is, what defines it, and what makes it so special. It's quite simple. A green smoothie is "green" if it contains at least one type of vegetable – in addition to the many other beneficial ingredients. What makes Sunny Food's green smoothies so special is the inclusion of "superfoods." This refers to the chia seeds, hemp protein, maca root, guarana, and other ingredients contained in the drinks. So, in addition to the fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as the mixed greens in the form of salads, herbs, root vegetables, etc., you always have a portion of "superfood" mixed in.

I found the smoothie to be comparable to a small meal in liquid form in terms of nutrients and satiety. The drinks are definitely a real energy booster and filling, in my opinion. The owner and founder, Philipp Döhmel, often refers to them as "healthy fast food" because you can quickly and easily grab a smoothie to go, feel full fast, and still have something – and a healthy one at that – in your stomach. In these stressful times, I find it increasingly difficult to eat healthily, and a balanced diet is becoming a growing challenge. With these smoothies, I'm sure it will be easier for you to eat healthily, too. At the very least, it's clearly a better alternative than stuffing yourself with sweets, burgers, or unhealthy "to-go" food when you stop by Sunny Food.

The extensive smoothie menu features numerous creations, and I'm sure you'll find something you like. My companion opted for the "Sunny Star" – with pineapple, mango, kiwi, ginger, banana, spinach, and mint (for €6). (Pictured) here (The green one). Very refreshing and delicious. If you're thinking, "Eww! Spinach!" – don't worry. You can hardly taste it, and with the Sunny Star, you've chosen a fresh, fruity taste experience. I myself opted for the "Sunrise" – one of the top-selling green smoothies. It blends mint, strawberries, banana, rolled oats, yogurt, cocoa powder, cacao nibs, and almond milk for €5. (In the picture) here The pink one). Very tasty, very refreshing, and very filling. The "Sunny Up" smoothies, also on the menu, are very healthy and include all the ingredients from the different food groups that should be in a healthy breakfast (e.g., grains, fruit, or dairy products). I can highly recommend the "Kick Start," the "Sunrise," or the "Liquid Lover" for a healthy start to the day (between €5 and €6.50). Coffee lovers are also catered for with the "Sunny Brain Smoothies." These are the Red Energy and the Berry Boost Smoothies (also €5.50 and €6 respectively) and contain, on the one hand, spinach, strawberries, banana, blueberries, almonds, guarana, and almond milk, and on the other hand, spinach, mint, raspberries, banana, walnuts, blueberries, goji berries, apple juice, and water.

While the smoothies are certainly on the pricier side, you can easily skip breakfast or lunch altogether, or replace it without hesitation with a delicious green smoothie. Seen in that light, and compared to the price of a typical filling meal, they're not expensive or overpriced at all. If you're feeling a bit hungrier, the small shop also offers a daily selection of fresh soups, such as a delicious ginger and carrot soup or a delicate potato soup. Definitely worth trying! 🙂 Another great thing is that almost all the smoothies on offer – you can see a photo of the entire menu in the pictures – are vegan, so vegans and vegetarians alike will find something to enjoy.

It's also worth mentioning that a catering service will soon be offered. This means you can order the desired number and variety of smoothies for company events or your own small parties (with about a week's notice) and have them delivered to your preferred address. In addition to this option, you can also... Facebook page Send a message to "Sunny Food" letting them know you'll be there in x minutes and would like to have this and any smoothie prepared for pickup. This will help you avoid the sometimes unavoidable queues around lunchtime – even though it's worth it in this case.

The small shop itself has seating for about three to five people. It's not a lot, but it's enough for a pleasant chat. There might also be a few outdoor seats on Augustenstraße in the summer – but that's not certain yet. After ordering your smoothie, you can watch Philipp Döhmel mix it for you in the roughly 20-square-meter shop and hand it over the counter with a friendly smile. We felt right at home in the shop, by the way. The walls and a bench are a light parquet blue, there's lots of white, stylish, handcrafted lamps made of white wood, and a small standing table with two stools – very cozy and inviting. The smoothie cups hold around 470 ml, so you'll definitely leave feeling full and satisfied – and I'm almost certain you'll come back. You can reach the shop by public transport via the Königsplatz or Theresienstraße subway stations (U2 line). We're open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 7 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm. For those of you without cash, like me: No problem, card payments are accepted. Cheers, and definitely stop by! Maybe we'll see each other when I'm grabbing my bite. 🙂

I'll be back: Definitely, if I fancy a healthy smoothie that will fill me up.
