Honigverkostung

„"Maya the Bee takes over!" Today I want to tell you about a rather unusual and "new" event and culinary experience in Munich. It's a honey tasting from "Honigschlecken," for example, combined with a delicious breakfast or in the evening with friends, cheese, wine, and more. At first, you might think, "Wow, what's that, and how does it work?!" But let me explain, because it's really fun, and you'll be just as enthusiastic as I am! 🙂

The honey tasting offered by "Honigschlecken," a relatively new addition to Munich's event scene, takes place either at the Espressothek in Neuhausen (Romanstraße 81) or the Vinothèque Aquitaine (Theresienstraße 19), in a small, friendly group. Admittedly, when I first heard about it some time ago, I was unsure whether honey could offer such a diverse range of flavors that a tasting would bring genuine surprises and memorable taste experiences. After the honey tasting, I can only say: Yes, it does! My chosen tasting took place at the Espressothek in Neuhausen and impressed me from the start with its welcoming atmosphere, a friendly hostess, and a professional presentation packed with information about honey, its production, and processing.

Extensive selection: The honey tasting from "Honigschlecken"„

The presentations given by beekeeper Annika Singer during and between the honey tastings will help you discover your honey type. You'll be served ten small jars – each filled with a different type of honey – and sample the various varieties of "liquid gold" with a small spoon, experiencing the changing flavors and textures, as well as the individual nuances of each ingredient. From sweet, floral, and fruity to bitter or woody, and even resinous and warm – an exceptionally wide range of flavors awaits you. For my "honey date," I opted for the breakfast version. This includes small croissants, various types of bread and rolls (from the bakery), yogurt with muesli, apple slices (to cleanse your palate after trying several varieties), and a selection of cheeses, all of which pair well with the different honeys. Incidentally, only quality-tested products are tasted, from beekeepers who predominantly work organically and are certified by the German Beekeepers Association or the Bavarian Beekeepers Association.

Honey is always a good choice: for breakfast, brunch, or evening tasting.

The price per person for the tasting is €56. This includes a full breakfast, tea, water, ten small jars of honey to sample, and a small sample jar of honey to take home. The price isn't exactly cheap, and you might think twice about whether it's worth it, but I can honestly say that it's money well spent if you decide to go, especially if you come as a couple. You'll meet lovely people, gain valuable knowledge, taste the finest honeys with delicious bread and pastries, and leave satisfied after about 2.5 hours. The event is also a pleasant length – neither too long nor too short. Afterward, you can chat and continue enjoying a leisurely breakfast.

Next to the breakfast table was a small table with various types of honey in small jars, available for purchase and to take home. All the varieties were also part of the tasting, so it was quite easy for me to choose the right one, since I had been able to taste everything beforehand. I opted for a small jar of lavender honey (for €5) and couldn't resist spreading some delicious honey on bread the very next morning.

I can definitely recommend a honey tasting with the exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable Annika Singer. It's certainly something completely different and new compared to the offerings of numerous established event providers and restaurants, but the experiences and impressions I took home afterward were just as special. I truly discovered that the right tasting method – demonstrated during the tasting – heightens the senses and palates, allowing me to experience the many facets of "humankind's oldest indulgence" – honey – in a much better and new way.

A great experience for everyone: Honey tasting in Munich

For example, if you're looking for a nice idea for a private or business gathering (eight people or more), "Honigschlecken" would be happy to organize a honey tasting for you at the Vinothèque Aquitaine, in your own home, or another location of your choice, tailored entirely to your wishes. And don't worry: you can purchase the honeys both at the tastings and from the friendly Ms. Singer upon request via email. On the website, you can also find delicious and interesting recipe ideas for and with honey. You should definitely experience it at least once – if only for the wealth of fascinating information shared in the presentation. You can also find upcoming tasting dates on the website. Who knows – perhaps we'll see each other there soon. I might even drop by again...

I'll be back: Yes. The event is definitely worth attending. It also makes a great gift.
