Millesima Champagner LogoMILLESIMA Bordeaux: Buy the best champagnes online – Do you remember that I reported on Millesima about a year ago?No? Then read up quickly!Millesima Bordeaux is located in the heart of the famous French wine region and specializes in trading top-quality wines and sparkling wines. Personally, I usually enjoy wine as part of a leisurely multi-course meal, a lovely dinner, or simply while relaxing on the sofa. Champagne, on the other hand, I increasingly choose as an aperitif before a meal, or sometimes even as a complete alternative to wine, provided the champagne complements the dish or menu. My enjoyment of champagne continues to grow. This led me, during my online search for good champagnes, to Millesima's online shop.

Champagne and what you need to know

„"People who don't like champagne haven't tried it yet" – that's my opinion. Anyone who has ever tasted truly good champagne understands why so many people have fallen for this delicious French beverage. At least, that's how it is for me, and that's why it's worth knowing the following points about champagne. Everyone probably knows that only sparkling wine from the Champagne region can be called "champagne." Champagne is divided into four main areas – Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, Côte des Blancs, and Côte de Bar – a distinction made possible by its harsh northern climate and countless vineyards. Champagne is made from three main grape varieties – this is also strictly regulated. These include Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir, with each of the three varieties being cultivated more extensively in one of the individual Champagne regions.

„Champagne is described as "one of the finest drinks in the world".

Champagnes are sparkling wines of a special kind, and virtually every step of their production is subject to the strictest regulations. The distinction between Champagne and sparkling wine is also clearly defined. Whether referring to the growing region, the grape varieties, their cultivation, harvesting, or pressing, or even the blending, bottle fermentation, disgorging, or dosage: Champagnes are governed by strict regulations. Furthermore, Champagnes are characterized by their exceptionally lively and effervescent character in the glass, should always be served chilled – but never ice-cold – and ideally kept warm in a champagne cooler filled with ice cubes – for example, at the table during dinner.

Each bottle size has a different name. From the "Piccolo" (0.2l), through the "Bouteille" (0.75l) or the well-known "Magnum" (1.5l), to the Melchior (18l) or the "Melchisedech" (30l), there are every imaginable bottle size for champagne drinkers. Also interesting: Almost all champagne bottles have a so-called "conical" indentation in the bottom. This is necessary to withstand the pressure that builds up. The second fermentation in the bottle creates significantly higher pressure. One champagne that I have come to love especially in recent years is... Charles Heidsieck, which I've already told you about. That's why, while browsing online shops, the "Charles Heidsieck: Blanc des Millénaires 2006" immediately caught my eye – I'd like to recommend it to you not only if you want to treat yourself, but also tell you a little more about it:

Delivered in a case, the champagne costs €175 per 0.75l bottle.

In focus: Charles Heidsieck: Blanc des Millénaires 2006

The golden-hued Champagne "Charles Heidsieck – Blanc des Millénaires 2006" originates from the Côte des Blancs and is made from five exceptional vintages of this Champagne region. The Chardonnays were selected from four Grand Crus and one Premier Cru, allowing this Champagne to express the unique characteristics of each individual terroir within Champagne. Specifically: while the Vertus Chardonnays lend the Champagne freshness and floral notes, Avize provides the corresponding minerality, Cramant contributes clompexy, and Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger provide structure and balance.

What's so special about this Champagne? – The Cuvée Blanc des Millénaires is only produced in exceptional vintages. 2006 was particularly hot, with a summer full of contrasts and a late-summer lingering September. The harvest was easy, and aromatic Chardonnays were picked in almost abundance. One could almost say that the 2006 Le Blanc des Millénaires "honors" the king of the Côte des Blancs, Chardonnay. If you treat yourself to such a Champagne, I recommend pairing it with fish and/or cheese. You can find even more specific examples of perfect pairings online. So… do you want to treat yourself to a bottle? – Then you can do so here and… this one at Millesima online Order now. Have fun, and I'd love to join you for a drink. 😉
