In April 2025, fans of Indian cuisine can rejoice, as we're going to the Swagat restaurant located at Prinzregentenplatz – known for almost 30 years for its excellent Indian cuisine – authentic, fresh, and diverse. My companion and I have already tested this menu, which you can book from April 1st to 30th, 2025, for you.

A cozy and inviting atmosphere awaits you at Swagat
The Indian restaurant Swagat at Prinzregentenplatz
Located on Prinzregentenplatz in Bogenhausen, the Swagat restaurant has been a fixture in Munich's culinary scene for almost 30 years and is likely already familiar to fans of Indian cuisine. Few other Indian restaurants in Munich are as popular as Swagat, as it's considered one of the "places to be" for authentic Indian dining. This family-run restaurant has always been known for its diverse and high-quality dishes, friendly service, and excellent, freshly prepared meals featuring meat, fish, or vegetarian options. You'll find all kinds of Indian classics on the Swagat menu.
The perfect atmosphere is guaranteed. In addition to a cozy terrace with seating for 85 guests, the restaurant boasts several dining rooms in the basement, divided into various seating areas, where up to 150 guests can dine, enjoy themselves, and celebrate. The restaurant is attractively and invitingly designed; heavy fabrics, white tablecloths, and fresh roses adorn the tables, while Indian deities depicted on the walls and subtle lighting create a pleasant ambiance that encourages lingering. Thick walls separate the individual rooms, ensuring that wherever you choose to sit, you'll always feel private and undisturbed. The exceptionally warm and welcoming service will make you feel comfortable and well cared for from the very first moment.
When you visit us for the April menu with Mastercard or priceless.com, you won't need the extensive menu, as you'll be treated to a fantastic, pre-selected three-course meal (for two or more people). So, simply take a seat and enjoy. Of course, you can order drinks and any additional items separately. But believe me, you'll definitely leave satisfied.

The surprise menu at the Swagat restaurant (spoiler alert!)
As with every month, the following also applies to April: if you like to be surprised, it's best to skip this paragraph and book your place at Swagat from April 1st, 2025 via priceless.com. All you have to do to be served three delicious courses is show up on your desired date with your loved ones, appetite and anticipation.
It starts with various sauces and papadums – this isn't the first course, but rather a small amuse-bouche. Combining the sauces with the crispy, paper-thin Indian bread gives you a great preview of the Indian cuisine that awaits you. The meal begins with a delicate Appetizer platter for two people. If you have booked for three or more people, the portions and menus will of course be served to each table. The starter platter includes... warm, breaded vegetables as well as a delicious Chickpea and potato salad with fresh herbs. The platter lands in the middle of your table and everyone takes what they want.
The Main course consists of two different, very traditional Indian dishes: a Thali and a grill platter with various grilled meats. A thali is a dish usually served on a round platter in several small pots. Each pot contains a different Indian dish, along with coleslaw dressed with fresh herbs and a yogurt dip. If you prefer vegetarian options, the pots can also be filled with vegetarian dishes. You then select your food from the pots using small spoons and combine it with rice, which is also served and initially distributed onto your plates by the friendly staff. The contents of the pots are also customized for the Mastercard surprise menu; Swagat is happy to accommodate your preferences.
The grill platter for two people – is served with a spicy sauce and rice.
On the grill platter you'll find various types of meat in different marinades. An additional Indian sauce is served alongside, which perfectly complements the meat. My favorites were the lamb, the chicken, and the king prawn. My tip: Order some Indian naan bread on the side (not included). It's perfect for soaking up the sauces and scooping them up from the plate. Plus, in India, naan bread is almost always served with a meal.
As dessert There was also a platter with four different small desserts in bowls for tasting. These included a fluffy mango cream, sweet Gulab Jamun – fried honey dough balls –, Firni – thickened milk with rice flour, cardamom, almonds and sugar – and Gajar ka halwa – a kind of carrot pudding.
Conclusion and booking
Want to be there?! – Yes, I highly recommend it. I love Indian cuisine, and Swagat is definitely the place to go for it. The portions are generous, and the food is simply delicious. The meat is tender and juicy, the different thalis all have distinct flavors, and there's sure to be something for everyone. What I particularly like here is that you can sample numerous different dishes and desserts with just one set menu. Having been to India many times, I can also confirm that the food tastes very authentic.
The set menu is served for two or more people and costs €58 for two, including a small (mango) schnapps at the end of your meal. Of course, you are welcome to order other drinks as well.
