SIMPLY ENJOY: Wine tastings, seminars and more

Simply enjoy | Wine tasting Munich – I recently attended another fantastic wine tasting/seminar to expand my knowledge, discover new wines, and sample them. Since I enjoyed it immensely and I'm sure you would too, I wanted to share my experience. I booked the wine tasting event at "einfach geniessen" (simply enjoy) on Pestalozzistraße, not far from Sendlinger Tor. The variety of seminars offered by "einfach geniessen" is incredible. They have over 60 different courses available. Their offerings are constantly being expanded, updated, and supplemented with new seminars covering wine, gin, beer, champagne, whisky, and more. From wine seminars for beginners (Basic Wine Seminar I and II) to seminars on "Classic Red Wines from Europe" or even the whisky seminar "A Passion for Whisky"—they offer pretty much everything a spirits and wine enthusiast could desire. Depending on what's currently trending, popular, or where a closer look is worthwhile – rest assured, you can attend a seminar on this topic at "einfach geniessen" (simply enjoy). The focus is on wines from Germany and France, but the selection is much broader.

I opted for the "Wine & Cheese Workshop" (€95 per person). But what exactly can you expect? In this course, you'll taste a total of 10 different wines – all of them delicious. That's the advantage of being guided by absolute experts on such an evening: only the best! There were seven white and three red wines, divided into dry whites and reds, rosé, and sweet wines. You should be able to guess which were my favorites fairly quickly if you read my posts regularly. 😉 Both the sweet wines (a Gewürztraminer Ungstein Spätlese | 2013 | Germany, Pfalz and a Castelnau de Suduiraut | 2009 | France, Bordeaux-Sauternes) and the Cornas Granit 30 | 2012 | France, Northern Rhône-Cornas, which tastes very sweet when paired with cheese, were right up my alley. I won't list all the wines here. I'm not giving away too much just yet, because if you also want to participate in this fantastic and exciting workshop, you shouldn't know everything. The same goes for the exceptionally good cheeses, which are served with the two different wines in each round; in my opinion, they were all perfect. So, you'll always be given two different, pre-selected wines poured into your glasses, and then you can choose a third "wine of your choice" from the complete list of 10 wines to taste with the cheese. Cool, right? That means you'll definitely already have a suitable wine in your glass and can experiment a bit at the same time.

Throughout the evening, there's an abundance of cheese and bread. Depending on the wine pairing, grapes, radishes, tomatoes, or—finally—smoked salted almonds are served alongside. The seminar—depending on your chosen course—is led by one of the ten experts in the respective field at "einfach geniessen" (simply enjoy). My seminar/workshop leader was a very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable wine and cheese expert (thanks again to Regina Mändle!), who had an answer to every question and conveyed information in a very personal, relaxed, yet informative way, revealing things we all didn't know. 🙂 There were 12 participants in my case. The courses typically have between 12 and 20 people, depending on the course. In my course, the focus was on the cheese varieties in combination with the wonderful wines; we learned how cheese is made, how mold develops in cheese, and what cheese actually is. So, if you, like me, have a passion for cheese and also happen to enjoy wine ;-), then you should definitely ask for this workshop as a Christmas present (or for any other occasion you fancy). Don't worry... just because the word "work" is in there doesn't mean you actually have to do anything. A little cheese tasting here, a little wine drinking there, and listening attentively. If the wine goes to your head quickly – no problem. You'll receive a comprehensive seminar folder to take home. You can refer back to it there. For example, in my case, it tells you which cheeses go well with which wines, or what other delicious things you drank.

Cheese isn't your thing? And even wine leaves you cold? You might be a bit odd ;-), but even then you can find something to suit you at "einfach geniessen" (simply enjoy). Because, as mentioned at the beginning, a wide variety of courses await you. Here Here you can get an overview of the entire program, including the content of each seminar and its costs. If you haven't yet found a gift for your parents, friends, or even your boss as a team, I've saved the day again! 😉 Because you're definitely in good hands here. In the small, cozy shop, knowledge is shared, food is enjoyed, and laughter fills the air in a relaxed atmosphere at two or three group tables (depending on the size of the shop). If you want to get up for a moment (for example, while a new bottle of wine is being fetched, bread is being sliced, or cheese is being arranged), you can browse the extensive and well-stocked wine selection. They offer an incredibly diverse and well-organized mix of various national and international wines, as well as several guides on wine. (I bought two books myself :-)). But don't worry: you won't be pressured to buy anything (…but you should definitely take at least one bottle of wine from the shelf and a delicious bar of Original Beans chocolate from the display. ;-))

The seminars range from more communicative to more interactive. Sometimes (like in my workshop) you get to be creative and choose the wines you want to taste, while other times the courses are completely structured and well-planned – for those of you who prefer a more "safety-conscious" approach to wine. All courses are priced between €80 and €180. So you won't break the bank, just learn something new. And for example, as a small group with shared costs, such a course makes a fantastic gift. Gin, for instance, is currently all the rage among spirits. Anyone who's anyone makes gin or at least knows a lot about it. With "einfach geniessen" (simply enjoy), that's no longer a problem. Since "einfach geniessen" has been around for 12 years, it truly offers everything you could want in terms of expertise, course content, and selection. Incidentally, "einfach geniessen" collaborates with the renowned and excellent restaurant "Broeding" to host corporate events for up to 35 people. Broeding cooks, and "einfach enjoyessen" provides the perfect wine pairings. The same is also available on a larger scale in the form of the "Taste Expert Menu" with various themes at the Sofitel Bayerpost Restaurant, starting at approximately €120 per person. That means: wine, a superb menu (by Broeding), and a fantastic atmosphere. Sounds great, doesn't it?

My personal conclusion is clear: Book, do it, enjoy! There are some things I've personally tested that I really want to recommend to you. You can spend your money in many different ways, and it's easy to lose it. But here, your money (for yourself or as a gift) is definitely well invested. My seminar lasted about 3.5 hours and was truly enjoyable every minute. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to put you in touch with someone directly. So, cheers, and have fun!
