Deliveroo logo (colour, text underneath, German tagline, 1200x1200px)Glockenbach – tested on Deliveroo – As announced, my next restaurant review on Deliveroo was due. My first report about Deliveroo itself, as well as the first restaurant check I recently introduced you to this on my page. Given the freezing cold outside, I recently decided against going to a restaurant again and once more looked for good food on the Deliveroo website. I don't know about you, but for me, the saying "Too many choices can be a burden!" definitely applies when it comes to choosing food. Deliveroo offers so many good and well-known restaurants that it's hard to decide. 🙂 After quite a bit of deliberation, I opted for a restaurant in the Glockenbachviertel district that I already knew from various drinks and breakfasts I'd had there: Das Glockenbach. Das Glockenbach should be familiar to most (or at least "nightlife-loving") Munich residents. It's located just a stone's throw from Sendlinger Tor and always gets quite crowded in the evenings. A curved staircase, a glass facade, comfortable tables, a prominent bar, and despite a relatively small menu, quite good food. So, for me, there was nothing to stop me from ordering from this restaurant via Deliveroo.

To fully test Deliveroo's service, I placed my order at 12:30 PM for the second test, pre-ordering for 6:00 PM. (You can even pre-order for the following day.) I did everything via the app. The Deliveroo app is fantastic; it couldn't be simpler, more intuitive, or more straightforward. You enter your desired delivery time, select your restaurant after entering your postcode, or click on a saved address and choose your restaurant. If you don't want to browse and already know what you're looking for, you can also enter the restaurant name in the search field and go directly to the menu. And that's it! Pay (conveniently via the app using PayPal) and wait for your delivery.

The first time I ordered, I already mentioned how impressed I was with the punctuality of the friendly Deliveroo driver, and this time was no different. I wanted my food at 6:00 PM – and I got it at 6:00 PM. Exactly 6:00 PM. As a stickler for punctuality, I was absolutely thrilled. 🙂 So you definitely don't need to worry – should you decide to try the service, for example, if you have guests or need a timely delivery for other reasons – that your food won't arrive on time. I'm confident that won't happen. With my second order, it was slippery, cold, and not so nice outside, but the Deliveroo driver arrived in good spirits and right on time with the food for me and my companions.

That evening, I deliberately chose some more "challenging" dishes from the menu for myself and my fellow testers, as I wanted to pay closer attention to the packaging and transport. With my first order, the challenge of ordering soup in a jar was minimal, but this time it was a bit different. I know from my first experience with Deliveroo that they offer different sized delivery boxes to accommodate each dish. The Glockenbach location – to put it mildly – apparently hadn't bothered with the larger boxes, because two of the three dishes we ordered (more on that in a moment) arrived in what I considered to be undersized Deliveroo boxes. In this case – I took a photo specifically so you could see the result – it wasn't really a problem, as we simply took the dishes out of the box and arranged them nicely on plates. While most orders are usually delivered directly to people at home who have dishes to transfer the food to, the packaging was still somewhat impractical.

The selected beef fillet with ZConfit onions, jus, polenta, chestnuts, Brussels sprout leaves (for The item (€28) was in a small box and unfortunately soaked through the box and even the bag. Arctic char fillet with Mashed peas, horseradish, and roasted pumpkin (for €21) were also packed in a small box, and the fish, in two pieces, lay directly on top of the green pea puree. The third dish was a Chestnut risotto with Marzipan and Parmesan wafer (for €14), which, however, was very conveniently packaged in a round cup. Don't get me wrong, the food was excellent quality, and the Deliveroo service was great again. I just think the restaurant's packaging wasn't ideal; they should have used the larger boxes. Alternatively, the beef fillet and the fish would have been better served in two separate boxes, away from the side dishes.

And how did the food from Glockenbach taste?

Of course, I'd also like to say something about the dishes themselves. Glockenbach is marked with two € symbols on the Deliveroo website. So you can see at a glance what price range the dishes are in. Glockenbach – as I know from my own visits – is definitely one of the more expensive restaurants. Considering the restaurant's location (which is irrelevant for delivery, of course) and the quality of the food, I think that's quite reasonable. In total, we paid €63 for the dishes (plus a fair €2.50 delivery fee and a €2 voluntary tip for the Deliveroo driver). There was nothing to complain about regarding the portion sizes or the quality. The Arctic char was a little dry, but still acceptable and very good with the pea purée. I tried everything and had no complaints. The risotto was superb, and the beef fillet was also ample, juicy, and tender. Of course, it's entirely up to you whether you want to order food of this value for delivery. Many critical observers of menus and their prices would probably consider this too high, whereas the restaurateur naturally factors in not only the food itself, but also service, the restaurant, etc. While you don't take advantage of any of this when eating at home on the sofa, I personally understand how the pricing is calculated. Nevertheless, the €63 for the three dishes was, in my opinion, at the absolute upper limit.

If you're not familiar with Glockenbach or have never eaten there, you're definitely on the safe side when it comes to the food itself. If you're in the mood for Glockenbach for your first Deliveroo order, I would personally recommend a dish that doesn't have too many components or is easy to transport. Of course, once you have the food on your own plates, that's irrelevant, and you ultimately have to decide for yourself how important the appearance when unpacking is to you. It goes without saying that delivered food can never look exactly like it does on a plate in the restaurant.

My personal conclusion:

Deliveroo's service is and always will be top-notch for me. That sounds like an exaggeration, but there's absolutely nothing to criticize. Deliveroo definitely fills a gap in the Munich market by delivering fresh food from restaurants, and they do it exceptionally well. I'll definitely order again. I'll also be ordering from Glockenbach again, but I think I'll stop by and pick up the convenient, large Deliveroo boxes for my filet. 🙂

It doesn't get much more stingy than that. Ordering for €60 and then giving the driver a mere €2, despite the service being so highly advertised. Before the Euro, a tip of €101 was customary in every restaurant, and the driver would certainly have appreciated a €5 tip.
