Culinary Lounge | Delivery service review at pizza.de – The next delivery service check was due, and this time I decided to order from Kulinari Lounge in Untergiesing. Here too – just like with my last one – Delivery service check Seven Nations The menu was quite varied, offering pretty much everything from burgers and pasta to tarte flambée and appetizers, all the way to pizzas and soups. Still not a deal-breaker for me.
Unlike many other delivery services, Kulinari Lounge also offers the option of dining in at their restaurant in a rather cozy atmosphere. You can also order online via pizza.de and then pick up your order yourself, taking advantage of the 10% self-collection discount. They also offer affordable lunch specials (Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM – 3:30 PM) – meaning you can get your choice of pizza, salad, pasta, or burger with fries for €7 each. Sounds pretty good, right?
Culinary Lounge – Selection of dishes
Now, let's talk about my order, which I took home with my companion. I was quite hungry, as was my companion, so we ordered a diverse selection of dishes – again, to allow for extensive testing. Something I'd never ordered before, but which caught my eye on the menu, was one of the four different topped tarte flambées. I opted for the arugula, tomato, and goat cheese version (€6.90), preceded by a buffalo mozzarella and arugula salad with vine-ripened tomatoes, basil pesto, cream, and dressing. My companion, on the other hand, went for a burger. There are nine different burgers to choose from, all topped with beef, onion rings, and tomatoes. A drawback: there isn't a single vegetarian burger option; a plus: the cheapest burger starts at just €5.90, while the most expensive is the "Men's Giant Cheeseburger."“" with Approximately 360g, pickles, cheddar, and chili cheese sauce (for a reasonable €9.80). My companion, however, opted for the "Bacon Cheeseburger" with approximately 180g, pickles, cheddar, crispy bacon, and hot BBQ sauce (for €7.40), plus a side salad (for an additional €2.70; fries would have been €2.50). For a starter before the burger, we chose from three options: beef carpaccio, grilled antipasti, and bruschetta. I'd never ordered bruschetta before, so a portion (€4.90) also ended up in the basket. Well, two starters and two main courses were chosen; it's clear what was still missing, right? Ice cream (here Ben & Jerry's or Häagen-Dazs) wasn't what I was in the mood for, so I clicked through the other desserts: tiramisu, chocolate cake, or – rather unusually – apple strudel. I ended up ordering "Gateau au Chocolat," the chocolate cake with sour cherries, Parisian style (for €4.40).
Delivery and evaluation of the food
It was ordered, now it was a waiting game. A long wait. Over 75 minutes. I'll simply never understand this annoying phenomenon with certain delivery services. Either I limit my delivery radius, hire more people, or just don't offer the service at all. Who wants to wait over 75 minutes – in this case, there was probably a traffic jam on the Mittlerer Ring – only to be handed food that was, in part, cold? After a phone call and an inquiry with the delivery service, when the doorbell finally rang, I opened the door, gave the nice, slightly stressed gentleman a small tip (hm…), and accepted the food.
The tarte flambée – sorry Kulinari Lounge team – was rock hard, crumbly, and very dry around the edges. It was also ice cold. I could only eat the center, which meant I had a tarte flambée with a maximum diameter of 10 cm. This "center" wasn't bad, but simply not edible, which was a real shame because the tarte flambée itself wasn't badly made. So, I was "not amused" and turned to my very attractively presented tomato and buffalo mozzarella mixture. That was great. It was beautifully presented and – in a separate little pot – well-seasoned. For €6.90, there was nothing to complain about. I was still a little dissatisfied, though, because I didn't have a proper, hot main course. My companion didn't mind, as the burger was still (relatively) hot and quite good. It was generously topped, the beef was well-cooked, and – something I appreciated – the burger box was wrapped in a separate piece of paper to prevent the contents from leaking. The burger bun wasn't homemade, of course, but I think that would be asking too much of a multicultural delivery service. The side salad I ordered was crisp and fresh, well-dressed, and a fair portion. So there was absolutely nothing to complain about there. As for the appearance of the chocolate cake, I was initially a little surprised, as it was served with sour cherries in a cardboard salad bowl. It didn't look that appealing, but it tasted really good. A bit like the dark cake batter of a Black Forest cherry cake, with the cherries. 😉 So it was okay, even if it wasn't exactly a gourmet experience.
Key facts, tips and personal conclusion
I still believe that with delivered food, you have to be aware that some compromises have to be made – no matter how good the delivery service may be. The food simply travels across the city, sits in the box for a relatively long time, and might bounce over a few stones in the street. Temperature, appearance, and of course, taste should always be right, but after testing well over 50 delivery services, that's clearly not so easy. On a positive note, all the ingredients were definitely fresh. Kulinari also advertises on its website that it uses fresh dough daily – no frozen dough – and that the flavor is amazing thanks to the minimal use of fat. The tarte flambée probably won't become my favorite, but the rest was perfectly fine. Oh, and by the way: the bruschetta is the one in the photos that made you think, "Huh? She didn't mention anything about a tomato and mozzarella pizza!" 😉 If you ignore the fact that the whole thing looked and presented as much like bruschetta as I do like winter sports (I hate snow!), it was quite tasty and definitely softer and tastier than my tarte flambée.
Order here – I know this from before, but I wanted to try something new – either a nice juicy burger or a pizza. You can also try the salads, and if you generally just want to order food at really fair prices, then the Kulinari Lounge is the place for you. I can't advise against ordering from there, but I hope you have better traffic than my companion and I did, and that your food arrives at the right temperature. Two things that wouldn't be possible if you ate in, for example.
