The future tastes "brutally local." According to food expert Hanni Rützler, the trend toward regional cuisine is constantly evolving. Avant-garde chefs are turning to previously hidden organic treasures found locally in forests and fields to conjure up creative dishes. Producers, too, are increasingly experimenting with new ingredients from their respective regions. A taste of this is offered by... FOOD & LIFE from November 23rd to 27th, 2016 in Munich.
Sausage, cheese, bread and more await you
From the Black Forest's "Sausage 2.0"—a healthy sausage in 30 flavors made from high-quality meat, low in fat, and ingredients like spinach or ginger—to beer noodles from Lower Bavaria and gin from the Bavarian Forest, which won the World Drink Award in 2016: Over 250 exhibitors from Bavaria and Europe—including manufacturers, cheesemakers, coffee roasters, winemakers, distillers, and brewers—present their handcrafted delicacies, which visitors can sample and, of course, purchase. In addition, visitors can expand their culinary knowledge in the accompanying seminars and workshops of FOOD & LIFE and watch 15 top regional chefs at work on stage. Chef Karl Ederer (Wirtshaus Schwalbe, Munich), for example, is a firm believer in the regional trend and will be serving "Heimat Food" (local cuisine) on Friday, November 25, at 2 p.m. Shane McMahon (Shane's Restaurant, Munich) invites you on a culinary journey around the globe with his European-Asian fusion cuisine on Saturday, November 26th at 2:30 pm. Michelin-starred chef Bobby Bräuer (EssZimmer, Munich) celebrates Bavarian-French friendship on Friday, November 25th at 4 pm.
In addition, a food blogger will present recipes he developed especially for FOOD & LIFE on Wednesday, November 23rd at 6 pm. His motto: Spirits can enhance dishes and truly pamper the palate with new flavors. The complete supporting program is here to be found. With around 80 cooking shows, lectures and tastings, FOOD & LIFE offers enjoyment for all the senses.
Coffee lovers will be delighted
But please, with a shot! Spirits are enjoying ever-increasing popularity. At the new "Spirits Market" in Hall C3, FOOD & LIFE brings together its offerings of whisky, gin, vodka, and fine brandies. Here, spirits producers, including small distilleries from the region, present their latest products and offer expert advice to connoisseurs of fine spirits. For the first time at FOOD & LIFE, the small distillers' associations of Southeast Bavaria, Franconia, and Lindau will present themselves under the new umbrella brand "Bayern Brand – We're passionate about Bavaria!" and provide information about the artisanal production and quality control of Bavarian fruit brandies. The "Spirits Market" also offers a new seminar series with tastings, where visitors can, for example, sample whiskies from around the world or discern the subtle differences between brandy, eaux-de-vie, and spirits. Munich is gripped by coffee fever Furthermore, Germany's best baristas will compete for the second time in Munich for their championship title. From perfect milk foam designs and exquisite brewed coffee to exciting "Coffee in Good Spirits" creations (coffee with alcohol) – at FOOD & LIFE, they will conjure up their coffee specialties before the eyes of the public and the expert jury of the SCAE (Specialty Coffee Association of Europe). The winners of the Munich championships will then represent Germany at the World Championships in Budapest and Seoul in 2017.
