Breakfast in Schwabing: HeimWerk – Sunday hasn't been a particularly enjoyable day of the week for me ever since I was a small child. While I usually have the day off, there's never really anything going on in the city, and aside from relaxing, doing housework, and thinking about the upcoming Monday, I never really focused much on Sundays. Even today, I don't particularly like Sundays, but they're now greatly improved by a good start to the day. And what's the best way to start the day? Exactly, a good breakfast. This is reflected in the fact that I get more messages about good breakfast tips in Munich than almost anything else. So, here you go! A new breakfast tip in Schwabing, which I've thoroughly tested myself, of course.
Breakfast in Schwabing – why at HeimWerk?
The breakfast selection is small but exquisite. True to the HeimWerk motto, "less is more!" and "quality over quantity!", there are neither dozens of pre-made breakfasts nor countless extras. Instead, there are 10 different breakfast items to choose from, ranging in price from €3.90 to €10.90. The next advantage is obvious: exceptionally fair prices – both for Schwabing and considering the quality and quantity of each breakfast treat. HeimWerk distinguishes itself with a significantly smaller menu than one might be used to in Munich. However, this doesn't detract from a great breakfast experience. On the contrary, it allows them to focus on and specifically prioritize the finest ingredients in their dishes.
Breakfast at HeimWerk
Perhaps you've already seen my Facebook video about the HeimWerk breakfast Seen it. So now you know what to expect. A good and varied mix: The classics, bread rolls with butter and homemade HeimWerk jam (for €3.90); fried or scrambled eggs and bread, with your choice of bacon (for €4.60, plus €1.70 for bacon); Bircher muesli with fresh fruit (for €5.60); HeimWerk yogurt with berries, honey, and crunch (for €5.60); or – for those with a sweet tooth – small pancakes with homemade HeimWerk jam or sugar beet syrup (for €4.90). For those who prefer something more substantial, there's the mountain cheese omelette with tomatoes, herbs, and bread (€7.30) or a HeimWerk slice of bread in two different varieties (with ham, mountain cheese, spread, and savory jam for €8.10, or with salmon, cream cheese, dill, and egg for €10.90). To drink, there's an energizing smoothie made with banana, orange, spinach, and honey (€4.90). Freshly squeezed orange juice is available as an alternative for €4.20. I also learned on-site that iHeimWerk will also be making a few changes to the breakfast menu soon. The selection will remain the same, but a fresh fruit salad (for €5.90) or an avocado and tomato scrambled egg (for €6.20) will be added.
Ordering and reviewing breakfast
Enough chit-chat. For my test, I picked up the phone and reserved a table for myself and my companions on the sunny terrace of HeimWerk, located about 200 meters from Leopoldstrasse. Saturday of my chosen weekend was very sunny, so I simply hoped for sunshine on Sunday as well. The weather gods were kind to me, and absolutely nothing stood in the way of a wonderful Sunday, a good breakfast, and a comprehensive test. I had already identified some advantages before even taking the first bite: the weather, the prices, the selection, and—as I already knew from my previous experiences—the quality of the food. previous visits to HeimWerk – Super friendly service. The wait wasn't long either, so the main thing to do was test how quickly breakfast arrived and whether it lived up to HeimWerk's promises: good food, sustainable ingredients, and a down-to-earth yet high-quality selection. And what's the best way to find out? Exactly, by ordering everything at once! 🙂 That's exactly what my group and I did, and every item listed above, including water, arrived at our table. A picture is worth a thousand words – the gallery is below, so click through for a first impression. Let me just say upfront that this was a fantastic idea, and if you're a group of four or five pretty hungry people, then the "order everything from top to bottom" principle at HeimWerk is ideal. That way, you'll have fruit, fish, ham, eggs, bread, jam, yogurt, muesli, cheese, rolls, and sugar in the form of pancakes on your table. Amazing, I tell you, and simply a super cool weekend outing if you're traveling as a group. (By the way...it's probably not easy to find a cheaper way to eat with up to five full stomachs in Munich...).
Okay, so I actually tasted everything – what kind of test would it be otherwise, right? My clear winner: the filling HeimWerk slices with salmon and ham – both varieties, in other words. Ideal if you're a bit hungrier, whether eating alone or just with one other person. I could have eaten the whole thing, especially because the spread underneath the ham or salmon was so wonderfully fresh and creamy without being heavy. A generously topped slice of bread with, say, Bircher muesli is quite filling. Second place went to the mountain cheese omelet. For a moment, I even thought my idea of sharing it was a bit silly, because I couldn't complain if the others wanted some too. Oh well, it'll be shared then. Super fluffy eggs, nice and rich and fresh. In my experience, egg dishes often taste like they've been cooked in a pan or too much like "egg" and quickly lose their freshness – do you know what I mean? The omelet at HeimWerk was simply fantastic, and throughout the meal I kept saying, "Mmm, I want to have that again sometime!" until I finally got on everyone's nerves and got the rest. The hearty Bircher muesli, not overly sweet at its base, topped with fresh fruit and apple slices, was also delicious. It's perfect for anyone just looking for a snack. I didn't dislike a single thing; I was also impressed by the homemade jams and the generous portion sizes of all the dishes. Check out the photo gallery for more. You won't leave HeimWerk feeling stuffed or hungry, I promise!
Personal conclusion
So I was thrilled and will definitely be back. Who can I recommend the HeimWerk breakfast to? Basically, anyone who likes a well-defined breakfast where you can taste each individual component. No frills, no fuss, no fuss on the plate, just honest and down-to-earth food at – and I have to mention this again – exceptionally fair prices. The place attracts young mothers, smartly dressed businesspeople, families, groups of all ages, and people who simply want to enjoy a relaxed breakfast without stress or unnecessary complications. Personally, I tend to be more laid-back and relaxed on weekends, especially since the week is usually quite stressful, so it's nice to unwind in the sun on Saturday and/or Sunday. Again: For just around €50, even groups can enjoy a fantastic, comprehensive breakfast without any fuss about "who gets what?" by simply choosing everything. HeimWerk, with its sunny terrace, is also perfect for spending an hour or two alone or with a partner, enjoying the sun and a light breakfast. Relaxing here is definitely possible. And the excellent DINZLER coffee on offer would certainly complement the atmosphere.
Hard facts
HeimWerk breakfast is offered every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. If you absolutely want to sit outside—especially on sunny days—please mention this when making your reservation. The terrace is practically unrivaled in this area, enjoying plenty of sunshine in the mornings. The food inside is just as delicious, though. Feel free to mention that you're booking through me; you might even get a free mini pancake! 😉 Finding a parking spot isn't always as easy as enjoying the omelet, but it's manageable, especially along Hohenzollernstrasse. Card payments are, of course, accepted.
