NOA Vegetable Slices Something new is happening in the world of NOA. Until now, we knew the brand as a vegan, purely plant-based spread in various flavors. Now there's something new in the refrigerated section: NOA Vegetable Slices. This means you don't even need a knife, just some fresh bread and you're ready to enjoy. NOA Vegetable Slices come in a simple and convenient resealable package, similar to sliced cheese or sausage. Two varieties are available at launch: "Paprika-Tomato" and "Carrot-Curry-Ginger." "Put vegetables on your bread" pretty much sums up the concept. NOA Vegetable Slices are the perfect complement to the various spreads, offering a simple and convenient alternative.

The new NOA vegetable slices
NOA vegetable slices in the test
Both NOA vegetable slices are vegan, non-GMO, and gluten-free – just like their various spreads. Of course, I tasted both, in this case on a fresh country bread. The paprika-tomato variety is very flavorful, but not spicy. No additional seasoning or flavor enhancement is needed, for example, by adding a sliced pickle on top, salt, or pepper. In my opinion, the paprika flavor is more pronounced than the tomato. Overall, the vegetable slices have a unique taste. Whether eaten on their own or spread on bread, they are a great alternative to cheese and sausage – so even non-vegans/vegetarians should give them a try.
The second, slightly more refined variety tastes even better to me personally. It might seem a little strange at first to put vegetables on bread – especially slices – but it's definitely worth a try. The carrot-curry-ginger variety tastes really good and is also quite unique. Perhaps that's because of my love for carrots and curry – two flavor components that are skillfully and subtly combined in the NOA vegetable slices. The curry flavor is very subtle, and if you were to assume that the "very intensely yellow slices" are the spicier variety, you'd be wrong. A mild and very pleasant spiciness, combined with a very light ginger note and a dominant carrot flavor, awaits you here. Delicious!

Simple, uncomplicated, delicious!
I tried the slices on their own, with bread, and in a mixed combination. Delicious and definitely something new in the refrigerated section. They're not at all dry, even though I was expecting something different given the texture. The slices are rather firm and can't be rolled up (like a sausage or a slice of cheese). However, they're ideal for putting on bread—a bit thicker than a typical slice of cold cuts and very filling. I eat meat, including ham and sausage, on my bread, but I'm happy to have discovered a new type of bread topping.
And what's inside?
The "Paprika-Tomato" variety contains vegetables (341 tbsp bell pepper puree, 101 tbsp tomato puree), coconut oil, modified starch, starch, xanthan gum (thickener), raw cane sugar (a partially refined cane sugar with a lower ash content), spirit vinegar, table salt, herbs, spices, and chili. Per 100 grams, the "Paprika-Tomato" slices contain 308 kilocalories, 24.4 grams of fat (of which 22.1 grams are saturated fatty acids), 21 grams of carbohydrates (of which 6.5 grams are sugars), 1 gram of protein, and 1.56 grams of salt.

This is how the NOA vegetable slices are packaged.
The Carrot-Curry-Ginger variety contains vegetables (451 tbsp carrot puree, 11 tbsp carrot), coconut oil, modified starch, starch, xanthan gum (thickener), raw cane sugar (a partially refined cane sugar with a lower ash content), spirit vinegar, table salt, ginger, herbs, spices, passion fruit juice concentrate, and chili. Per 100 grams, the Carrot-Curry-Ginger slices contain 273 kilocalories, 20.6 grams of fat (of which 18.7 grams are saturated fatty acids), 20.7 grams of carbohydrates (of which 7 grams are sugars), 0.7 grams of protein, and 1.5 grams of salt.
Hard facts
If you're not familiar with NOA, you should definitely read the two articles linked below. NOA is part of Exquisa, has only been on the market for eight months, and has already been tried by 40 million people. Amazing, right? Of course, a lot of thought went into the concept and development phase of NOA's vegetable slices. The fact that demand for uncomplicated vegetarian products increased by 1451% in 2016 certainly played a significant role as well.
Each pack contains 135 grams of vegetable slices, which is equivalent to seven slices per pack. Since each slice is rather thick and substantial, even with thick slices of bread, you'll only need a maximum of two vegetable slices. One pack will therefore keep you full for a few days or provide a good basis for a healthy and quick snack. When stored between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, the NOA vegetable slices will keep for approximately two weeks unopened.
