REWE City at the main train station – the latest news! – A while ago, I told you about my favorite REWE City in Munich's city center. More precisely, the REWE City at Munich's main train station – recently under construction, but now free of any disruptive blockages and sporting a new facade. It offers an extensive selection of 11,000 products and consistently stocks around 2,000 new items. Every visit confirms that this isn't just any old supermarket, but one that always offers something new. There's also plenty happening outside the product range, with several new features both inside and around the supermarket that are sure to delight any foodie or connoisseur of good food.

What's new at REWE City at the main train station?

Quite a lot is changing. Anyone who's ever been to the centrally located REWE City knows that there's a bakery to the right of the entrance, just before the escalators. Starting December 1st, that's changing, and the building will be getting a new restaurant concept. The bakery is leaving, the filled rolls and baguettes are moving to the fresh food counter of the REWE supermarket, and a branch of the well-known chain KAIMUG (e.g., Fünf Höfe, Sendlinger Straße, etc.) is moving in. So, if you're out and about in the city center and fancy some Thai food, from the beginning of December, you only need to go to the REWE City at Bahnhofsplatz and you'll be served.

Once you've had your fill of KAIMUG, it's worth taking the escalator down to check out the expanded and newly stocked selection. Sugar-free muesli, cookies, waffles, and chocolate (from Bergen, VELIERI, and Zerole) are just the beginning. The Italian brand "Vincenzi," which fills an entire shelf, offers Italian cookies, waffles, pastries, cantuccini, and more. And just a few meters away, the Italian experience continues: "Del Fiore," the well-known Munich-based ice cream maker from Italy (with locations at Gärtnerplatz and its own factory, etc.), has now brought its ice cream to the supermarket, and REWE City offers it in a wide variety of flavors (be sure to pick up the "Yogurt and Honey"!).

What I personally found very impressive were the six varieties of "CLEVER PASTA" pasta. The special thing about them is that they're made with chili, wild garlic, turmeric, lentils, peas, and chickpeas, meaning they have virtually no carbohydrates and taste really good. There are plenty of "healthy" or low-carb pasta options, but these are truly special – both because of their variety and their unique flavor – and, by the way, they're only available at REWE City near the main train station!.

Onward and upwards… since the beginning of September, a wall of shelves has also been dedicated to the Greek delicatessen "Krini," which offers everything from marinated olives, antipasti, and the like, to sauces, pestos, organic pasta, and more. I treated myself to the pesto along with the CLEVER PASTA pasta and was delighted. Also since the beginning of September, the market has been stocking various balsamic vinegars and balsamic vinegars (pomegranate, passion fruit, raspberry, whisky, etc.) from "Werners Genusstempel" (Werner's Temple of Delights).

Spirits enthusiasts have also been catered for, and the spirits section now features the "Illusionist" gin, which changes color from blue to pink when mixed with tonic water. Hip, creative, and delicious. In addition, there's "blinking vodka" and a wide selection of excellent wines and other beverages.

…and what else is coming?

From mid-December, REWE will be selling the spiciest chips in all of Germany. I bravely sampled them beforehand and can only say that anyone who likes spicy food will absolutely love these chips ("Burning Pain" in two varieties: "Habanero" and "Jalapeño"). I'm not usually a fan of spicy food, but I find it fascinating what you can do with spice and potatoes. It also won't be long before "32" (an unusual beer in seven different varieties) is available at REWE City.

Stop by REWE City at the main train station, treat your shopping basket to something new, your stomach to something sugar-free, or perhaps some food from Italy, Greece, and other countries. You shouldn't miss out on any of the products or vendors mentioned. Oh yes… they also have really good Elisenlebkuchen (a type of German gingerbread) and, for a while now, dark bread from Panifactum – you should definitely read the first article (linked above) about it.
