Do you enjoy drinking milk? – Then you celebrated World Milk Day (June 1, 2022) just like I did. Dairy products play a major role as an important foodstuff in almost every country worldwide and are an integral part of our diets. To give milk and the dairy industry the recognition it deserves, various national organizations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Dairy Association (IVA), have organized World Milk Day.The International Dairy Federation (IDF) launched World Milk Day. World Milk Day has been celebrated in more than 40 countries around the world since 1957.This is of course also true for the Bavarian dairy Weihenstephan.

To mark World Milk Day, Weihenstephan Fresh Milk 3.5% % fat and Weihenstephan Fresh Milk 1.5% % fat will be available with a special design throughout June.I also want to make a statement and provide you with exciting facts about milk for World Milk Day. Facts you may never have heard before – for example, do you know why milk is white and that textiles can even be made from milk? World Milk Day 2022 – Milk facts from around the world

World Milk Day is celebrated in over 40 countries. Since 2001, it has been observed uniformly across all countries as an international day of action on June 1st. We Germans love our milk in the morning with muesli or in hot drinks, as well as in various desserts, main courses, and dairy products (cheese, yogurt, butter, etc.). Even on its own, a delicious glass of milk for a boost of energy is one of our favorites. In short: milk is indispensable in our daily lives. This isn't just true in Germany, however; in numerous other countries, milk is also used to create typical national products – in Turkey, kefir; in Iceland, skyr; the possibilities are virtually endless.

In my opinion, milk deserves significantly more attention and awareness. I therefore see June 1st as the ideal opportunity to delve deeper into the topic of milk. I quickly realized that when I explore milk in more depth, I suddenly start thinking about facts that seem self-evident in everyday life. For example: Why is milk white? Thanks to the Weihenstephan dairy, I now know the answer. The milk's characteristic white color comes solely from the milk fat it contains. It occurs when light refracts through the naturally occurring milk protein particles. Interesting, isn't it? Also, that one Raw milk and homogenized milk can be distinguished with the naked eye. I learned about the Weihenstephan dairy and its fascinating milk facts. How is that possible? – The milk you buy in stores is made from homogenized raw milk. During homogenization, the milk's fat globules are broken down, and the cream remains permanently dissolved in the milk liquid. This prevents the milk fat from rising to the surface. Before the milk reaches the shelves, it is, of course, pasteurized.
