The restaurant „Ma'Roots im Hofkücherl“ in Forstinning
There are some restaurants you simply have to know – as a connoisseur, as a Munich resident, as a gourmet enthusiast. For the food, the concept, and the atmosphere. One such restaurant is "Ma'Roots im Hofkücherl" in Forstinning. This cozy establishment is a set menu restaurant, embodying a passion for honest enjoyment and offering exquisite gourmet delights and lovingly crafted menus for all kinds of occasions, private or business. The kitchen uses almost exclusively Bavarian ingredients, and there are always two different menus to choose from (excluding the Mastercard menu, which you can enjoy in June). Currently, the restaurant is serving, for example, the "Between Meadow & Forest" menu (available with meat or vegetarian options) and the "R90" menu, which focuses on the diversity and quality of regional products, none of which have traveled more than 90 kilometers (90 km radius = R90).
As part of the sophisticated concept of "Ma'Roots im Hofkücherl," the menus change regularly and are always created and prepared with heart, mind, and innovation – simply honest cuisine. Each dish tells its own story and blends harmoniously into the overall "gourmet menu" experience. You decide how many courses you want to enjoy on-site or whether you prefer to be surprised. The Mastercard surprise menu at Ma'Roots in Hofkücherl (Spoiler alert!)
If you secure a spot for the Ma'Roots menu, you can look forward to an unforgettable evening. Exclusively, four courses will be served at a relaxed pace – sometimes by Melanie with an interesting wine pairing, sometimes by head chef Manuela Holzbauer. The meal begins after... small greetings from the kitchen with Roasted and raw fennel, stirred goat cheese and sour honey. You'll enjoy the first course with an aperitif included in the surprise menu, which you can choose freely from the menu. We opted for a „"Basil Oxymel with Prosecco"“ and one „Monte Plancino“, a yellow Muscatel Frizzante (from the Firmenich winery). Afterwards there's a Asparagus risotto with preserved lemon, hazelnut and verjus. The Wine pairing This is offered as an optional extra with the menu (39 euros / non-alcoholic beverage pairing: 35 euros). We enjoyed it with a 2021 loess loam Pinot Blanc from the "KOPP" winery, with aromas of white blossoms, apple, and a hint of grapefruit peel.

Course three surprises and impresses at the same time, and so you will receive a Infusion of bone broth and horseradish Poured into small glasses, it's drunk much like a shot of liquor; the infusion warms you and impresses with its intense aroma. The following course was my companion's favorite, a Beef roulade with mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. A true classic of Bavarian cuisine, and simply perfect in taste. Imagine visiting your grandparents on Sunday, they're serving roulades, and you're looking forward to that familiar taste that reminds you of home and childhood – you can expect that wonderful feeling with the first bite of the roulade. And to finish, I served my personal favorite: Pancakes caramelized with rhubarb and nettle ice cream – incredibly delicious and a perfect end to a great meal.
