Discover the Oberambach Castle Estate
Everyone is surely familiar with Lake Starnberg. And with that feeling of wanting to escape the hectic pace of everyday life and simply "get away." A short break at the Schlossgut Oberambach, opened in 2002, is the perfect combination of "switching off, recharging, and finding peace" with a touch of "Lake Starnberg feeling." Located in Münsing near Lake Starnberg, this family-run hotel has been operated with great attention to detail for 22 years and has been certified organic (100%) for over 20 years – a certification that only two (!) hotels in this category have ever received.
Besides outstanding cuisine and 40 uniquely designed rooms, this chic, listed organic hotel also boasts a wellness center with a fantastic Ayurveda program, a sauna, a steam room, and a natural bath. So, if you're yearning for peace and quiet and want to find yourself far from constant digital noise, the stresses of everyday life, and the hustle and bustle, Schlossgut Oberambach is definitely a must-visit. And it goes without saying that you'll enjoy superb dining there…
Food offerings and culinary highlights
The menu at Schlossgut Oberambach is first and foremost about one thing: 100% organic. Yes, that's right, absolutely everything you order at the Schlossgut restaurant is organically grown or produced. Many of the products used come directly from the one-hectare Demeter farm adjacent to the organic hotel, which is used exclusively for the hotel's needs. I learned on-site that this makes Schlossgut almost entirely self-sufficient in terms of vegetables and fresh produce. It doesn't get any fresher or better than this!
From the 4-course surprise menu including aperitif (always on Thursdays during the cold winter months with a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian), to a changing signature dish, various starters and main courses, to a handful of delicious organic desserts, there is something for everyone. The cuisine is down-to-earth, close to the origin of the products used, honest and transparent.
In addition to the regular menu, there are daily specials, which, as with all dishes, are only available while supplies last and are of the highest quality. In other words, cooking is based on seasonal availability – authentic, high-quality, and sustainable. The lunch menu at Schlossgut Oberambach is always completely vegetarian and vegan.
My companion and I thoroughly enjoyed the surprise menu, delighting in a flavorful carrot tartare as a first course; a delicate herb soup from the castle grounds and tagliatelle "al vongole" as a second course; followed by a choice of meat and fish for the main and third courses. Together, we savored the beef tenderloin with Duchess mashed potatoes, parsnips, and vegetables, as well as a sophisticated vegetarian dish of braised Jerusalem artichokes with sweet potato, mushrooms, and kale – a vegetable that, in my opinion, is significantly underrated and incredibly delicious.
The menu showed us, quite subtly and without any fuss, just how incredibly good organic and high-quality food can taste. Unadulterated in flavor, you can enjoy authentic, fresh, and healthy cuisine at the Schlossgut restaurant, which nourishes not only your soul but also your body. From May onwards, the aforementioned surprise menu, which is served every Thursday evening, will be replaced by the annual and very popular terrace BBQ at Schlossgut Oberambach.
