Homegrown honey on the roof: The Pasing Arcades' beekeeping operation | Pasing Arcades Honey – When people think of the Pasing Arcades, they probably think primarily of shopping and the numerous events that regularly take place there. The idea of "40,000 honeybees" or "homegrown honey" rarely, if ever, comes to mind. But that's exactly what you'll find in this shopping center in western Munich. And it's on the roof. There, 40,000 busy, buzzing honey producers have found their home. The "Pasing Arcades Honey" project is run by "nearBees - Honey from next door." A really cool idea, in my opinion, so I did some research.

In my opinion, honey is something truly wonderful. Not only is it versatile, but it's also a magnificent natural product with countless facets. I've even had the pleasure of participating in a honey tasting myself (Read more hereI participated and learned about the incredible range of the product. Honey isn't just honey, and most people are familiar with the saying, "If the bee dies out, humans will follow a few years later." For me, honey tastes great in tea, on bread, in savory dishes, in dressings, and simply straight from the spoon. For me, enjoyment always includes a little background knowledge. So, what and who is behind nearBees, and how did it all begin?

The organization behind the honey: nearBees from Munich
nearBees NearBees is committed to facilitating bee sponsorships throughout Germany, supporting 1,600 beekeepers. Bee sponsorships were also arranged for the Pasing Arcades shopping center – in this case through nearBees co-founder Viktoria Schmidt, who was introduced to beekeeping as a hobby by her grandfather – and now delicious Pasing Arcades blossom honey (in 340-gram jars) is available. Beekeeping and agriculture have a long tradition in Viktoria Schmidt's family. Today, nearBees brings local beekeepers and honey buyers together easily and conveniently, showcases the biodiversity of nature, and ensures the preservation of the valuable practice of beekeeping.
Hardworking people…
Unfortunately, due to its extremely limited availability, this honey isn't for sale. Thanks to the Pasing Arcades (thank you!), I had the opportunity to try it, and I can only say that this sweet gold tastes absolutely delicious. I will definitely be using it very sparingly, only on its own, without any processing in recipes, dressings, or as a tea sweetener. Pure, unadulterated flavor.

A little tip from me: Keep an eye out for the events at the Pasing Arcades. They regularly offer guided tours up to the roof of the arcades, giving you a glimpse into the beehives of the 40,000 winged Pasing Arcades employees. You'll also learn fascinating facts about bees, such as the fact that all the male bees leave the hive around the end of May and there are no male bees in the colony during the cold winter months. The new brood, on the other hand, takes advantage of the abundant pollen supply in spring and summer and diligently flies from pollen to pollen. And did you know? I'll definitely be there next time – if only to thank the boss for the delicious honey. 😉
