Schwarzreiter Day Bar & Restaurant Recently, I visited the Schwarzreiter restaurant on Maximilianstrasse with a companion. More precisely, I went to the "Schwarzreiter - Day Bar & Restaurant." This visit to this top-notch location was definitely one I'd been looking forward to for several days beforehand – and rightly so, as I now know. I was already familiar with the day bar from a quick drink with some friends a week earlier, and we unanimously agreed that we should come back for a proper meal. So, we did – and recently, my companion and I enjoyed ourselves immensely.

We chose a weekend evening for our visit and reserved a table in advance in the front area – specifically, the daytime bar. The Schwarzreiter is divided into a restaurant area and the daytime bar, where we dined. The restaurant itself, which continuously offers two changing menus (4-course or 6-course), is located at the back of the building and is only accessible via the aforementioned daytime bar. Both the ambiance of the modern and inviting daytime bar, with its striking, chic bar, interesting black-and-white photographs of famous figures on the walls, Italian marble floors, elaborate wall decorations, and an unobstructed view of the bustling Maximilianstrasse, and the restaurant itself, offer a truly exceptional and comfortable atmosphere.

Before I talk about the excellent food, I'd like to elaborate a bit on the concept and the "motivation" or background of the Schwarzreiter restaurant. It offers top-notch cuisine on Munich's most expensive street – so it's only natural to assume that the food will be priced accordingly. But you'd be wrong. 🙂 "Etepetete" (a German slang term for "pretentious" or "highbrow") at the Schwarzreiter can only be interpreted positively in terms of the level of service, ambiance, cuisine, and everything else. Whether you just want to enjoy a delicious drink, cappuccino, or cocktail – as I did on my first visit – or a superb meal, the Schwarzreiter offers the perfect opportunity. Even after countless restaurant visits, I sometimes find myself feeling uncomfortable or at least tense while dining in a setting that feels a bit awkward or even tense, despite the sophisticated surroundings, high-quality decor, and impeccable service. Not so at Schwarzreiter: Here you can be completely yourself, relaxed and enjoy a relaxed culinary experience, detached from the usual inhibition threshold that arises when entering high-quality restaurants.

As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a friendly gentleman and asked whether we would prefer to sit in the front dining area, the room with the illuminated bar, or a little further back in the second room with about seven or eight other tables. We opted for the latter and were immediately handed the menus after taking our seats at a cozy table for two by the window. It's worth mentioning that the "Schwarzreiter Tagesbar & Restaurant" is a new gourmet hotspot on Maximilianstrasse, serving its guests modern Bavarian cuisine with a special Munich flair, all prepared with considerable expertise. And—let me repeat!—at quite fair and reasonable prices. For example, from Monday to Sunday, between 12:00 pm and 6:30 pm, they offer the "Daily Dish," consisting of a main course with a side salad and coffee afterward, for €18. Now that's a fair (lunch) deal! Above all, you'll be eating top-quality dishes here.

Now for the most important part: the menu. The absolute highlight: the Schwarzreiter fish! The restaurant takes its name from the fish of the same name, a small, smoked char from Königssee, which was very popular with King Ludwig II. It's considered the ideal fish for true gourmets, bon vivants, and culinary pioneers, just as King Ludwig was known and enjoyed in Munich during his lifetime. 🙂 After trying this fish, I can definitely tell you: if you're here, the Schwarzreiter is a must-try. Whether smoked as an appetizer or as a main course with asparagus – it's a culinary dream in both cases! If you don't like fish, that's no reason to stay away from this inviting restaurant on Maximilianstrasse. Risotto, tagliatelle, steak, or even a salad – no problem. The menu is concise but exceptionally interesting and appealing.

Our visit to Schwarzreiter was once again one of those evenings where you simply wish you had more room in your stomach. Here, the focus is clearly on the guest, offering them a pleasant and, above all, relaxing evening in a cozy atmosphere at affordable prices. The menu also features quite "normal," simple dishes at fair prices. And the desserts! I don't even know where to begin. To give you an idea, here's our selection. For starters, we had a beetroot and cauliflower soup with cauliflower hash (€8) and a wild herb salad (small €9/large €13) with strips of beef fillet (depending on the topping, an additional €5-€8). A true dream! The meat was incredibly tender, the soup unbelievably flavorful and delicious, and presented in an exceptionally appetizing way – both were absolutely top-notch! The next course we ordered was asparagus risotto with morel cream and wild garlic herb broth (€16) and grilled fish on a stick from Schwarzreiter, lemon hollandaise, and roasted potatoes (€24). And what can I say? Absolutely fantastic. With every bite, the freshness of the ingredients and the harmonious interplay of the individual components were evident. So, if you like risotto and fish, you can't go wrong with these two dishes. For our main course, we chose the Dover sole meunière with caper butter, creamed spinach, and parsley potatoes (€33), as well as the dry-aged entrecôte (280 grams for €32) and a side dish of our choice for €3 each. Admittedly, we were pushing our limits, as the portions are exceptionally generous. Nevertheless, there wasn't a single thing that didn't taste and look exactly as you'd hope. As a grand finale, there were rhubarb tarts with white chocolate ice cream and strawberries for €8 – also a safe investment. 🙂

In summary: Schwarzreiter is perfect for you if you enjoy excellent food, find modern Bavarian cuisine appealing, and want to experience a relaxed, open, yet elegant atmosphere. The ingredients used impress with their ultimate simplicity, paired with culinary sophistication. Simply put: glamour and lightness combined with good food and drink. Neither too stuffy nor stiff or pretentious – the ideal hotspot for coffee, a short shopping break, a business lunch, or, as mentioned, simply for an evening cocktail. The Schwarzreiter restaurant in the back, as mentioned, offers customizable menus, combining individual components, and provides the perfect ambiance and first-class service for sophisticated evenings. Here, the kitchen team, led by head chef Christian Michel, conjures up seasonal and fresh dishes – moving away from the classic Bavarian image of sauerkraut and sausages, yet still inspired by traditional cuisine. A younger crowd looking for a more relaxed evening will feel right at home in the daytime bar. The ideal meeting place for relaxed hours with close friends, colleagues, business partners, friends, and family. The restaurant is also perfect for more sophisticated evenings in an upscale atmosphere. However, a welcoming and comfortable environment is the order of the day. In my opinion, Schwarzreiter is definitely a new culinary highlight in Munich's restaurant scene.

It's open from Tuesday to Saturday from 6:00 PM, seats approximately 45 people, and prides itself on serving the finest Bavarian cuisine. The daytime bar is open from Monday to Sunday from noon until midnight and can accommodate nearly 70 people. Besides the perfectly trained and extremely attentive team, Andrej Grunert – the restaurant manager of the Schwarzreiter Daytime Bar and Restaurant – is responsible for your successful evening. "Well done!" is all I can say after our visit! And in my opinion, it's a definite must for Munich residents and tourists alike to stop by the daytime bar (or the restaurant). Card and credit card payments are, of course, accepted. In my eyes, it's a perfect example of how even the most beautiful doors of supposedly expensive establishments can be opened, and you should be convinced otherwise by a wonderful evening.

I'll be back: Absolutely! From now on, if I want a nice evening in an upscale atmosphere at affordable prices, I'll be visiting the Schwarzreiter.
