Nero Munich Recently, my companion and I went to Nero for breakfast, or rather, to the "Nero Grill & Pizza" section. This chic restaurant has been known for precisely these dishes: wood-fired pizzas and delicious grilled steaks. They've recently added a typical Italian breakfast to their menu. Since I love going out for breakfast, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to try the new Nero breakfast and share my experience.
The restaurant itself – thanks in part to its wood-fired pizzas and trendy steaks – has become very well-known in Munich circles over the last 10 years. In my opinion, it was only a matter of time before Nero also offered a delicious breakfast – and lo and behold: since the end of February, you can enjoy a typical Italian breakfast in a cozy atmosphere, alongside the usual menu.
Breakfast at Nero is selected from a menu compiled by the two owners, Stefano De Giglio and Flavio Chouquer. As soon as we sat down at our cozy table for two in the back, the menus were brought to us. They offer four different breakfasts (between €9.80 and €15.50). There's definitely something for everyone – including vegetarians, such as the "Emilia" breakfast (€13.50) with bread, butter and jam, a delicious tomato and avocado salad with cucumber, and a small selection of cheeses. For true ham and meat lovers, there's the "Friuli" breakfast (also €13.50) with 18-month cured ham, spicy salami, and fresh tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella. My companion and I chose both of these breakfasts during our visit. Both were served very quickly and presented in an exceptionally appetizing way. The portions served were absolutely ample and filling. Our drinks (a Diet Coke (0.33l/€3.50) and two fresh orange juices) arrived quickly. If you're ever in the area, you absolutely must try the fresh orange juice. It's incredibly fresh and bursting with fruity flavor – I could have easily ordered another one! 🙂
In addition to the four different breakfast options, you can also order extras – individually, of course. These include egg dishes like scrambled or fried eggs, as well as fried eggs briefly grilled on both sides with your choice of topping (for €6.90 each + €1 per topping). Naturally, they also offer the usual classics like croissants, homemade bread, and a selection of cheeses. I briefly considered ordering the fresh fruit with yogurt or the Bircher muesli, but then decided against it and opted for the scrambled eggs instead, as I wanted something warm. They were prepared exactly as scrambled eggs should be – I always add extra salt. 🙂 My companion's fried eggs, grilled on both sides with a Parmesan topping, were also delicious, and the Parmesan made them a truly new flavor experience for me. You should definitely order them if you're there. In addition, there's house-cured salmon with a delicate dill-mustard sauce, marinated beef fillet with onion chutney (€9.50) (also very delicious, because the liquid from the onion chutney placed in the center soaks into the prepared beef fillet, allowing the meat to absorb some of the flavor and aroma), and many other extras. The selection is definitely large enough that everyone will find something to their liking and leave satisfied and full.
Nero also scores points for its ambiance. From the glass facade, the soaring ceilings, and the chic gallery, to the long tables seating up to ten people, the intricately designed mosaic art on the walls, and many other carefully coordinated details: Nero is visually stunning. I briefly visited the very clean restroom upstairs and had the opportunity to take a closer look at the gallery. It's a wonderful place to sit, dine, and enjoy yourself in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Upstairs, the atmosphere is more open and lively. There's also a prominent bar with some additional seating in the entrance area. The lower restaurant area seats approximately 100 people, while the upper gallery accommodates another 70. During our visit, we were seated at one of the few tables for two in the rear of the restaurant, which is a bit more secluded and quieter. As someone who always prefers corner seating, I much prefer choosing a table in the corner whenever possible, and Nero offers a perfect spot.
If you're not in the mood for breakfast when you're nearby, or if you're more in the mood for pizza and meat – no worries! The legendary Nero wood-fired pizza is still available daily from 12:00 PM on the regular menu. I tried it on a previous visit to Nero and was quite impressed with the taste. There are numerous varieties, and with prices ranging from €6.50 to €14.50, you can't complain. I like my pizza nice and thin, with a crispy base that doesn't completely crumble when you bite into it, and still has plenty of toppings – just like at Nero. So you should definitely stop by for a pizza. Some of my friends are also very impressed with the steaks at Nero – so if you're a real meat lover, head on over. The extensive Lunch menu The restaurant's hours are Monday to Friday until 5:00 PM. As you can see, there's plenty to discover here. 🙂
As far as the service is concerned, there's absolutely nothing to complain about. The staff is friendly and attentive. Empty dishes were cleared promptly, we were asked if we needed anything else, and they even took my jacket and hung it up for me when I came in. Even when I accidentally spilled the rest of my delicious orange juice while chatting and gesturing, a friendly member of staff was immediately there behind the bar with some cloths to clean it up. Very thoughtful – just the way I like it. 🙂
Located on Rumfordstrasse, not far from Munich's Isartor, Nero is easily accessible by public transport and yet not as crowded as a typical breakfast spot in Munich's city center. Breakfast is served on Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Card payments are accepted. The best way to get there is via Isartor, using any S-Bahn line on the main line. However, I definitely recommend booking in advance by phone, as it got busier the longer we sat. Whether you're with small children, friends, a partner, family, business associates, or colleagues, you can confidently go and let AZ pamper you with Italian cuisine. Enjoy!
I'll be back: Yes. For delicious pizzas, tasty breakfast and a stylish atmosphere in the heart of Munich, I will definitely stop by Nero Munich.
