FRESHFOODS – The online supermarket for Munich – Delivery service

+++ Advertisement: This post was created in cooperation with freshfoods. Thank you for the products! +++

Freshfoods is an online supermarket that lets you conveniently order your food online and have it delivered at your desired time. In this case, not ready-to-eat meals, but groceries you'd otherwise have to buy in your free time after work or on your well-deserved weekend! I haven't spent too much time in supermarkets myself, because I don't eat at home much, but when I do go, I quickly get annoyed by long lines, sold-out products, or discontinued items. "This doesn't have to be the case!" I thought to myself after my last experience waiting in line 😉 and started looking around online. Why did I choose Freshfoods from the ever-growing range of online supermarkets? Because, firstly, Freshfoods is super reliable, secondly, the selection is very extensive, and thirdly, the delivery times are perfect for me, as someone who is hardly ever home or only gets home very late.

freshfoods – Online supermarket in Munich: Delivery until midnight

Of course, the products and the available selection are the most crucial criteria for an online supermarket. But delivery times and reliability are equally important to me. What good is my order if I have to be home to wait, or if the delivery doesn't even arrive within the chosen time slot? None! But you really don't have to worry about that with freshfoods. I missed the first delivery attempt—or rather, the first attempt—due to my own negligence. Shame on me! I was home, but unfortunately, I fell asleep, so the freshfoods team had to come a second time. (Sorry again!) The first time, I requested a delivery between 11:00 PM and midnight. Cool, right? That's how late it's possible here. Well, as I said, I fell asleep, the doorbell was broken, and my cell phone, as always, had no signal in my apparently "shielded" apartment—so the delivery driver left empty-handed. 🙁 I called the service hotline the next day – I got through immediately and received friendly and personal service – apologized again for my sleep schedule and was given the option to choose a new delivery date. I opted for the evening of the same day – this time between 8:00 and 9:00 pm – and was thrilled when someone actually arrived at my door with my food at 8:30 pm. Delivery always takes place within a one-hour delivery window, which you can freely select in advance after entering your postcode. The cool thing is: if you order in time, you can even get delivery on the same day, six days a week, from 9:00 am to midnight.

Perhaps you've already seen their own delivery fleet driving around town in their bright green Freshfoods refrigerated vans? Because they're refrigerated in the vehicle, the cold chain isn't broken, and the food usually arrives even fresher than if you lugged everything from the supermarket to your car, drove home, and then had to carry it all upstairs. (Last week, for example, I had a piece of goat cheese in my handbag – admittedly, it was over 35 degrees Celsius. When I got home, straight from the supermarket, the slices were completely gone, and there was just a big lump of cheese left in the package. Not good...)

The product range and selection

Freshfoods advertises itself as "fresh in Munich," and I wanted to see for myself with my first order. So, from their extensive selection, I chose some fresh fruit, as fruit is always a good indicator of freshness. I opted for some mountain peaches, kiwis, oranges, and apples. I also selected several other products, most of which I was already familiar with, but I also chose some new items from their range. For example, I love Brandt's rusks in various flavors. Since I've tried almost all of them, I chose coconut (€1.79). I also added a Corny milk sandwich (€2.99), a delicious sliced mountain cheese from Herz (€1.69), Alpro soy vanilla milk (1 liter/€2.19), gluten-free pasta from Schär (€2.99), organic potato soup with leeks in a tub for heating (€3.19), an organic fruit slice with cranberry-cashew flavor (€0.99), a jar of Hengstenberg pickles (€1.69), and a gluten-free Margherita pizza from Schär (€4.49). Unfortunately, some of the gluten-free items couldn't be delivered with my order, but I received written notification and was offered an alternative. You can pay by credit card, PayPal, or cash at the door.

The product range consists of well-known brands as well as regional products, totaling around 7,000 items. If you're looking for something more organic, for example, freshfoods offers numerous organic alternatives to the usual conventional products. I particularly appreciated that the selection of fruits (and vegetables) is seasonal, meaning you can only buy what's currently in season. The meat and sausage products you buy at freshfoods come from the Feneberg butcher shop – I inquired about this out of curiosity – which supplies numerous organic farmers in the region who meet the criteria of associations like Naturland, Bioland, and Demeter. There's also a separate category for vegan products, pet supplies, and beverages. And, of course, just like in a regular supermarket, there are special offers that are cheaper than usual and are listed in a separate review.

The conclusion

In summary, I would definitely order from freshfoods again. For me, the most compelling reasons are that I never have to go to a supermarket again, let alone stand in line, wait, lug bags, or anything like that. I can have deliveries made until midnight (!), take a nap beforehand 😉, and even get everything I could possibly want delivered to my 5th floor in an old building without an elevator. freshfoods also manages to deliver in an energy-efficient and therefore environmentally conscious way. Orders are combined, and you can even order at a lower price if several orders have been placed in your postal code area. (That would be the "Eco Route" at €1.90 for orders up to €60.) It's best to check them out online, perhaps even during the time you'll save by not having to stand in line at the supermarket. 😉 Opening hours are a thing of the past!

I'll order again:  Yes. Here you can have fresh groceries delivered until midnight.
