Wine tasting: On October 22, 2015, Munich wine lovers can enjoy top wines from the sunny side of Austria, specifically the beautiful Burgenland region, from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the old Congress Hall – completely free of charge. All you have to do is register beforehand. here Register at Culinarium Bavaricum and nothing will stand in the way of an excellent wine tasting. This event, taking place for the third time in Munich this year, is definitely worth attending, and I'd like to tell you a little more about it beforehand, because here you can taste and discover fantastic wines of all kinds.
What can you expect? The focus is clearly on the witty and helpful campaign. „"Wine to Go!"“, "Tasting made easy" is the motto for everyone who doesn't yet know where and with which wine to begin their tasting – and there are many of you! This means you reach into the lottery drum of your choice and draw your starting winemaker, where you'll begin your tasting. Inside the drum are small slips of paper with the names of the winemakers, the wines they've brought, and of course, the stand numbers, so you don't get lost. For anyone interested in wine and wanting to ease into the subject, this event offers the perfect opportunity. Maybe I'll even join in myself, for a bit more variety. 😉 The winemakers, varieties, and stands are divided into different categories or themes, which are also separated in the individual lottery drums: "Celebrating White with Friends," "White, Sweet, and Seductive," "White and Red by the Fireside," and "Red, Cult, and Culture." Choose the category that appeals to you most, draw your ticket from the corresponding drum and you have already determined your starting winemaker for the first themed tour.
You'll also be greeted by 72 different winemakers, each bringing and presenting one of their wines, meaning the selection is endless and well-balanced. Of course, a friendly sommelier will be on hand at the information booth to answer any questions you may have about wine. As for the wines they'll be bringing: superb Chardonnays and Pinot Blancs – one of my favorite white wines – as well as sweet wines (from Rust), Blaufränkisch, and more will be available for tasting. I'm particularly looking forward to the different Chardonnays and, among the reds, the Blaufränkisch. Anyone who doesn't try them will be missing out! 😉 I'll also be sampling the internationally acclaimed and award-winning sweet wines. I can't reveal any more details yet, but a visit is definitely worthwhile.
The origin of the wines also deserves closer examination: the Austrian Burgenland. Besides offering wines that are simply divine, it also boasts abundant sunshine and a wonderfully warm and mild climate – especially around Lake Neusiedl – thus rightfully earning the title "The Sunny Side of Austria." It's simply the ideal place for a gourmet getaway, and I'm all the more delighted that we can enjoy Burgenland in its finest, liquid form right here in Munich for a day.

As mentioned at the beginning, you can save the €15 entrance fee by registering in advance (like this). Of course, you're welcome to bring your wine-loving friends too, as all registered participants can taste the wines for free and only pay the €5 deposit for each glass. In addition to the excellent wines, you'll also be treated to culinary snacks on site. These small dishes are naturally paired with Chardonnay, Blaufränkisch, and sweet wines, giving you a great first pairing idea for food and drink.
