Taverna Crete – Delivery service review via pizza.de | Greek restaurant I ate at home again and didn't feel like Asian, Bavarian, or even Italian food. I was craving something new, so I clicked through several delivery services and ended up at the Greek taverna Kreta. As the name suggests, it's a delivery service specializing in Greek cuisine. I hadn't tried ordering from Greek restaurants very often before, so my companion and I decided to order from this Greek restaurant.

The menu ranges from fish and meat dishes to various appetizers, salads, and Greek specialties. There are also set menus and a few Greek desserts. I was quite hungry and planned to eat quite a bit. Some might already be thinking: You can't order Greek food and it's only for eating in a restaurant – but just wait and see. 😉

Specifically, we ordered two appetizers, two main courses, and two desserts for a total of €50.80. A lot of money, but also a lot of food that was quite filling and tasted great. So, for starters, I had baked eggplant and zucchini (€5.70), and my companion had dolmades – rice wrapped in grape leaves with a spicy sauce (€4.90). For my main course, I bravely chose the fish with rice and vegetables, more precisely, pan-fried salmon (€13.90). I know, I know – ordering fish for delivery is always a bit of a gamble, but I wanted to try it, and if I was going to do it, I wanted to do it right – that's why I chose salmon. My companion, on the other hand, opted for meat – five small lamb chops, also with vegetable rice and tzatziki on the side (€14.90). I was already very excited about this dish when choosing and ordering it. How would it be delivered, and would the meat still be edible after the journey? The same question applied to my salmon. Could it possibly work? Well, it was worth a try, so I ordered both and waited. To finish, we had baklava (for €4.20) and Greek yogurt with honey (for €3.90) from the dessert category. We were all set, the order was placed via pizza.de, and all that was left was to wait.

Food rating and delivery time

While waiting, I read some reviews of the delivery service on pizza.de. This is something I normally never do, as there's just so often far too much – sorry! – inaccuracy or exaggeration of what happened. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but it usually ranges from "never again!" and "waited for 3 hours!" to "fantastic. I'd order again anytime." The online reviews for Taverna Kreta are also quite varied, and while I was still reading about some customers complaining about the extremely long delivery times, the doorbell rang after just 40 minutes. I jumped up, gave them a tip, and unpacked the food.

Baklava

There was absolutely nothing to criticize about the presentation and packaging. Of course, and I've mentioned this before: when you order online, you never get the same picture in your mind as you would of a beautifully presented plate in a restaurant. Nevertheless, everything was nicely individually wrapped; nothing leaked through the packaging, was cold, or looked unappetizing. That was already great. So, okay... transfer everything to the plates, plate it up, and off we go. My salmon was plentiful – as you can see in the photo – and, apart from being just a tiny bit too dry, really not bad at all. I had expected worse – not specifically from the taverna in Crete, but with delivered salmon in general. I squeezed a little lemon juice over it and ate the fish with the – somewhat meager – portion of rice. The same was true for my companion's lamb chops: tender meat, well-seasoned, and plenty of it. We didn't need to order the tzatziki, as the dish itself already had a good amount of sauce. We were both satisfied. The same was true for the appetizers, which we nibbled on throughout the meal. The grape leaves with rice were fresh and tasted fine. Personally, I would have preferred them not to be submerged in the sauce, allowing us to dip them as we liked, but that's a matter of taste. The breaded vegetables were also fresh and just as you'd expect to find at a Greek restaurant. I was actually already full, but as you know, I can always go for something sweet. I had imagined the baklava to look different, more like small, bite-sized pieces. Instead, we received a slice-sized version, which tasted very close to what I would describe as fresh and delicious baklava. It was a little tricky to eat because the sweet dessert was stuck to the box, but delicious nonetheless. We didn't manage to finish the little calorie bomb completely, but it was definitely tasty. I left a little room for the Greek yogurt, which is always a must-have for me after a visit to a Greek restaurant. This dessert was also fine and of restaurant quality.

Hard facts and personal information

The food was reasonably priced. Keep in mind that we ate plenty of fresh salmon and lamb, as well as two appetizers and desserts. We probably would have been full for the same amount at a restaurant. My delivery was prompt, the driver was friendly and wished us a good appetite, and apart from the slightly dry salmon, there was nothing to complain about. If I ever feel like a cozy evening on the sofa again, I'll definitely order from Taverna Kreta again.
