4 Urbans at Munich Airport For my 18th review, I once again ventured beyond the security checkpoint at Munich Airport. This means that if you're not departing or arriving, you unfortunately can't visit "4 Urbs," the restaurant I tested as part of my Tasty Tour. However, if you're in Terminal 2, Departure Area G, the restaurant, with its international cuisine, is just a short walk away. I've found out what makes 4 Urbs special, what's on the menu, and why it's called "4 Urbs" in the first place.

4 Urbs – Street Food and Self-Service Restaurant

What can you expect at 4 Urbs?

4 Urbs, as the name suggests ("4 tribes"), draws its inspiration and character from four different cities in terms of ambiance, furnishings, and cuisine. Milan, Bangkok, New York, and – of course – Munich, are the four cornerstones upon which the concept is built. It's no coincidence that cuisines from these cities, synonymous with progress, modernity, and multiculturalism, were chosen, as Munich Airport itself reflects this vibrant international character. It's a perfect fit, then, uniting four of the world's major cities in a culinary way.

At 4 Urbs, you'll find everything your heart desires, from Italian and Asian to American and Bavarian cuisine. Presented as a relaxed "street food" concept and self-service restaurant, you can queue up at four different stations, choosing according to your appetite and cravings. They serve pizza, pasta, Asian dishes, as well as panini, white sausages with pretzels, Bavarian classics, and sushi. The advantage is obvious even before you start eating: one person might prefer Bavarian food, another crispy duck, and a third might be drawn to Italian pizza or Asian sushi – no problem! Everyone simply orders at their chosen station, and after paying at the central checkout, everyone can enjoy their meal together, regardless of what they've ordered. Different cravings, different cuisines, one restaurant and dining area. This area, in turn, is creatively designed and perfectly suited to the concept.

4 Urbs – the ambience of the areas

4 Urbs is not only divided into four different culinary styles, but also into the same number of distinct seating areas. Each of the four areas has its own unique charm and creates a specific atmosphere for dining. The concept works: The "Milan" seating area represents "La Familia" (the family). With its abundance of wood and vibrant colors, it's the perfect place to enjoy a variety of pizzas and pastas. For a more modern and unique experience, head to Bangkok, featuring numerous Asian dishes and a relaxed, Asian-inspired corner with dark furniture, a long counter, and high tables. Those who prefer a more stylish setting can choose a spot in "New York" or its adjoining lounge, which offers a cozy atmosphere and typical American barbecue fare (burgers, steaks, etc.). And last but not least, area number four is Munich! Anyone who loves Bavarian cuisine will be spoiled here with classics like white sausage with pretzel or more hearty delicacies and can make themselves comfortable in a Bavarian-inspired environment.

Menu and selection of dishes in detail

Upon arriving at 4 Urbs, you immediately notice the four different ordering areas. Right at the front, next to the display of freshly made paninis and focaccias (e.g., with tomato, mozzarella, or salmon starting at €6.50) in various styles, are the pizzas. There are four different types (Caprese, Milano, Regina, or Hawaii), each for €10.90. I walked past these, however, as well as the pasta station with its six or seven different pasta shapes and various sauces. My companion and I joined the queues at the burger/grill and Asian food stations. While waiting in line, you can choose what you're in the mood for by looking at the chalkboards or screens. Besides a turkey panini (heated upon request | €6.50), we opted for the classic burger: the cheeseburger with cheese, tomato, lettuce, and a beef patty (€12.50). At the same time, my companion ordered the crispy duck on fried egg noodles (€16.50) from the Asian food station – one of four different Asian dishes on offer. Loaded down with our panini and chips, burger and fries, and Asian dish, we settled in at a high table in the Bangkok area, along with other guests. If our selection doesn't appeal to you and you're more in the mood for white sausages with a pretzel, you can get three of them with a pretzel, mustard, and a 0.5-liter glass of wheat beer for €12.90. The classic currywurst with fries and ketchup is available for €10.90, and for those looking for a healthier option, there's the Caesar Salad Turkey (€13.90). As an alternative to the cheeseburger, there's also the "4 Urbs Doubleburger" with locally sourced beef (100%) and fries for €16.50, or the "Surf and Turf" combination with shrimp, chicken, vegetables, and fries (€15.90).

To finish off the meal, and after devouring all the food, my companion and I chose a frozen yogurt – definitely leave room for it! It comes in a fixed size, is enough for two people, and can be customized with various toppings (Smarties, brittle, mango, grapes, melon, and red berry compote) for €4.90 and enjoyed ice-cold.

The early bird catches the worm! Therefore, a breakfast with bread, jam, butter, orange juice, eggs, ham, bacon or salmon is offered daily until 10:00 am for €14.90, as well as a 4 Urbs breakfast burger with fried eggs and bacon for a fair €8.90.

4 Urbs is open from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It's busiest between 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM, during the typical lunch rush, and again from 5:00 PM onwards. However, you should always be able to find a seat at 4 Urbs and its four themed areas, with 70-80 tables accommodating up to 200 guests. You can choose from a self-service pizza, pasta, grill, or Asian food station. These stations also offer Bavarian classics, filled baguettes (€4.90), paninis and focaccias (from €6.50), sushi boxes (€14.90), fresh fruit, chilled drinks, frozen yogurt, and salads. Airport employees receive discounted prices on-site.
