Trattoria Tuttobene | Italian cuisine in Obersendling/Fürstenried – „"One order of grilled baby calamari, please!" and "Yes, if you ask, I'd love to try the pizza too!" That's roughly how my visit to Trattoria Tuttobene began. The name of the trattoria already hints at my final verdict after this visit: Tuttobene indeed! Everything was fine. But let's start from the beginning.
Located in Obersendling/Fürstenried, this trattoria has been open since November 2015. For many years prior, the premises housed a different, rather run-down restaurant. Now, renovated, modern, and inviting, the trattoria has been delighting guests for over a year and a half with delicious Italian classics and a well-rounded concept. This concept includes pizza, pasta, fish, meat, and a weekly changing menu, all made in-house from the finest Italian ingredients. Transparency regarding each product, authentic recipes, and a menu that whets the appetite from the moment you read it.
What can you expect at Trattoria Tuttobene?
Trattoria Tuttobene is located about 20 minutes from Munich's city center, adjacent to a quiet sports field, with a cozy terrace, a fully glazed facade, and an inviting interior. Upon entering, my eye was immediately drawn to the small bar and the pizza station, behind which a flurry of activity took place – baking, cooking, and culinary magic. I received a warm welcome, was helped to find a table, and feeling comfortable was effortless. No matter which seat you choose, all are bright and welcoming, offering a generous view of the terrace, which is furnished with chairs and enjoys sunshine throughout the summer. Fresh plants and place settings adorn the dark wooden tables, while colorful paintings (hand-painted drawings by the Italian artist Vito Schiraldi – contact information is available through the restaurant) decorate the brightly painted walls, creating an overall harmonious atmosphere. My first impression was one of feeling at ease, arriving, and relaxing in a simple and comfortable setting. The menu and my drink order were presented to me within a minute of being seated, and I received attentive service.
Menu, weekly and lunch menus
A first glance at the menu reveals that classic dishes are served, but the menu also offers something different with its changing weekly specials. In addition to the weekly specials, the menu is divided into a separate lunch menu and the standard menu. On the standard menu, guests can expect a variety of appetizers, stews and soups, pasta and oven-baked dishes, pizzas, salads, meat and fish dishes, as well as children's options. Only the finest ingredients are used, including for the 20 different types of pizza. It's worth noting that thanks to a particularly elaborate sourdough production process, including a 48-hour fermentation, even guests with gluten intolerance (not celiac disease!) can enjoy the pizzas at Trattoria Tuttobene. Depending on the order, only the best "fior di latte" (small pieces of buffalo mozzarella) and high-quality ham are used as pizza toppings. Pizzas start at €4.50 (for Pizza Pane) and go up to a maximum of €11.50 for the house creation "TuttOBene" with cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, salsiccia, arugula, and Parmesan shavings. Fish dishes range in price from €14.90 to €19.70, and everything from baby calamari and mixed fish platters to king prawns is available. If you don't like fish – no worries! The menu also features grilled veal schnitzel with seasonal vegetables, turkey schnitzel in various styles, veal medallions with a side dish, beef cutlets, and rump steak starting at €13.50. And, of course, there's the classic pasta selection, with variations starting at €6.50 and a wide variety of sauces, pasta shapes, and other creations.
A new weekly menu, featuring creative dishes, is offered regularly. Besides antipasti, a special pizza, and a pasta dish, this menu might include lamb shank with orange pesto and coffee reduction, additional fresh fish, and more. It's also great that Trattoria Tuttobene pays attention to so many small details. For example, the bread is homemade and regularly varied (sometimes with olives, sometimes with rosemary, anchovies, or even sun-dried tomatoes). In addition to the regular and weekly menus, there's a lunch special from Tuesday to Friday, 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. This includes all pasta dishes with a soft drink (0.2l) and a green salad for €10.50, as well as various pizzas from the regular menu with a drink and salad for €9.50.
Selection and evaluation of the dishes
Having so many choices can be a real dilemma, and so I was initially undecided about what to order. I ordered still water and a Hugo – it was lunchtime, so I was certainly allowed to indulge – and they arrived quickly. To start, I had the "Calamaretti alla Griglia" – grilled baby calamari with a mixed salad (€14.90). It was a dish I'd mostly only ever had on holidays in Italy, or hadn't ordered in a long time. It was a good choice. The calamari, coated in a thin breading, were incredibly fresh and delicious. Breading the calamari is actually a specialty from Catania, Sicily, the restaurant owner's hometown, so I gladly accepted his recommendation. The breading didn't weigh the dish down; the fish still retained its natural flavor, and overall the combination was wonderfully light, summery, and fresh. Take a look at the photo gallery (below) to see for yourself. My empty plate had been cleared, and I left it up to the team, including the pizza chef, to decide which pizza I wanted to try, though I secretly hoped for the aforementioned "TuttObene" pizza. My wish was granted; less than 15 minutes later, my pizza, a visual delight, fresh from the stone oven, was in front of me. I've mentioned it often enough: I don't like pizzas where the dough is bubbly, the edges are burnt, or the center is so thin that the toppings ooze through. You can often see this when it's served, and so I immediately thought to myself, "Aha, you'll love this, Bianca!" And that's exactly how it was. Only the finest buffalo mozzarella, a few pieces of Italian salsiccia that added a touch of spice, fresh arugula, and a perfectly prepared dough. That's how I like it! Since I obviously couldn't finish it all, they offered to take my pizza to go. I did just that and was pleasantly surprised that evening, after reheating it, that the pizza – including the dough, its softness, and its freshness – had lost none of its quality or flavor. Absolutely perfect, which is certainly also due to the high-quality Italian ingredients.
Key facts and further information
All dishes are available for takeaway at Trattoria Tuttobene. Of course, you're also welcome to dine in inside, where there's seating for 80 people at approximately 20 tables. However, on my next visit, I'll definitely sit outside in the sunshine (there's room for another 60-70 guests) – perhaps for a plate of their partially homemade pasta. My tip, after speaking with the owners: reserve a table, as it's difficult to predict when the trattoria will be busy. This way, you're on the safe side. On Tuesdays, you can get selected pizzas for takeaway starting at just €6. On Wednesdays, they offer baked pasta and on Thursdays, ribbon pasta dishes for €7 each to go. And on Fridays, for the perfect start to the weekend, they serve spaghetti for €5.50.
Personal conclusion
I felt very comfortable there. Firstly, because the service was so warm and friendly, and secondly, because the atmosphere was relaxed and informal. Trattoria Tuttobene is both the ideal family Italian restaurant and perfect for a leisurely lunch or a few hours enjoying the Italian atmosphere in the sun. The freshness of the ingredients and the conscious selection of the best products – preferably from Italy, of course – are clearly evident on the plate, and yet, perhaps also due to its slightly less central location, the price-performance ratio is excellent. Fancy a taste of Italy? Then head to the trattoria! And be sure to try the "TuttObene" pizza – it's truly delicious.
