Rana Pasta – The new organic whole grain line – Even when I was allowed to visit Giovanni Rana's production facility and pasta factory in Verona at the end of 2016 (Read more hereI was (and still am) a huge fan of Rana Pasta's delicious fresh pasta in all its varieties. Now there's more news to report about Rana Pasta, and starting in June 2018, it's time for all pasta, ravioli, gnocchi, and tortellini fans like myself to head to the supermarkets! Because starting in June 2018, Rana is launching a new product line. It's organic, it's whole grain, and it's deliciously filled. Specifically, there are three new ravioli varieties, which I had the pleasure of trying beforehand.

The new organic whole-wheat ravioli

As we all know, eating has long since ceased to be simply about "mindless indulgence," but increasingly encompasses "sustainability, transparency, awareness of raw materials," and thus also a positive relationship with nature. Rana is setting an example in this regard with its new organic whole-grain line, which includes three new filled ravioli varieties. Anyone who enjoys healthy eating, is open to new culinary experiences, and also pays attention to how their food is produced and the "background" of it, will likely find Rana's new pasta products particularly appealing.

The new varieties are ravioli wrapped in the same dough with 1.) Chickpeas and broccoli with a hint of spice, 2.) Ricotta and spinach with creamy burrata, and 3.) sweet and crunchy peas. The taste was somewhat familiar to me. „Ricotta, spinach & burrata“This ravioli variation is a new take on the popular Rana classic (ricotta & spinach). The addition of high-quality burrata makes it even creamier. This "little gourmet star" among organic whole-wheat ravioli is sure to be a hit. „"Ceci & Broccoli"“ It's a delicate chickpea cream, refined with broccoli pieces and red chili. A hint of "spice" (or perhaps "spice" for many) makes this variety particularly unique in taste. With „Piselli Finissimi“ There are steamed peas which, through this process, lose neither texture nor taste and thus retain their slight sweetness, wrapped in organic wholegrain dough.

Each of the three varieties encases select organic ingredients of the highest quality in a wafer-thin pasta dough, which is also Rana's unmistakable trademark and hallmark of quality. Thanks to the thin, high-quality whole-wheat dough, you can taste each individual ingredient with every bite, and the pasta itself doesn't overpower the flavor. Nevertheless, it's clear that you're enjoying a plate of ravioli, i.e., pasta. No "eco-friendly" taste or lack of "pasta enjoyment" here. Unadulterated flavor, a unique texture, and plenty of room for your own culinary experimentation are guaranteed. The fact that it tastes so exceptional in combination and with every filling is also due to the high-quality ingredients. Starting with the aforementioned organic whole-wheat flour, which is naturally richer in nutrients and contains valuable nutrients, fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals thanks to its bran content. All ingredients used in the organic whole grain line are grown and processed according to the principles of organic farming and are checked via the organic certification of CCPB (the Consortium for the Control of Organic Products).

Once tried – the new varieties

Trying is better than studying, especially when it comes to food. I'm particularly proud that I was able to taste the new pasta before it even hit the supermarket shelves. The organic whole-wheat ravioli with sweet pea filling will definitely become a permanent fixture in my fridge. The filling is creamy and soft, but contains no lumps, which is something I rarely appreciate. Even ingredients with different consistencies are skillfully blended into a uniform filling thanks to the optimal preparation. With the other two varieties – ricotta-spinach-burrata and chickpea-broccoli – you can immediately see that Rana Pasta's rigorous quality control pays off (over 150,000 checks of individual components and the finished pasta annually!).

To delve a little deeper into the world of Rana, I also recommend trying the tortelloni, tortellini, and gnocchi. As always: try before you judge.
