I've been to Berni's Nudelbrett two or three times now, and I've never been disappointed. Admittedly, the restaurant, located right by the Viktualienmarkt, doesn't look particularly modern or trendy, and even after climbing the stairs, things don't improve at first – but don't let that put you off. Berni's Nudelbrett has been around since 1976 and is one of those restaurants that unfortunately doesn't immediately spring to mind when you're looking for delicious pizza, pasta, and other dishes. For one thing, it's certainly not one of Munich's newest restaurants, and for another, it's located upstairs – so it's easy to walk right past it without noticing. All the more reason why I felt it was a place I had to try. I did so once at lunchtime – when you could still sit outside on the large terrace with tables and chairs in the quiet alley – and again in the evening for a relaxed dinner. As I mentioned, I was satisfied every time and had absolutely nothing to complain about.
The menus are presented to you immediately after you take a seat at one of the light oak tables, and a friendly server asks for your drink orders. The menu offers a wide selection of pizzas (€8.25–€13.50), pasta dishes (€8.25–€10.50), salads (€4–€12.50), and more. I opted for the pasta—a trio of different pastas with various sauces—once, and a pizza another time. The food was excellent each time and tasted delicious. In my opinion, the pizzas have just the right crust, are generously topped, and have a wonderful flavor. But even if you prefer steaks (€15–€23), antipasti, or fish dishes (€14.50–€19.50), you're sure to find something tasty here. For example, the vegetarian pasta trio (see photos) costs €10.50 and the delicious pizza tonno costs €10.
Inside, the atmosphere is very Bavarian, and the light wood furniture, Bavarian decorations, and wooden panels on the walls further enhance the Munich feel. During my visits, the tables were never very full, but most of the guests present opted for pizza.
The service is very friendly, attentive, and helpful. When I asked which sauces were included with the vegetarian version of the pasta trio, I received a friendly reply and was even offered the option to swap one sauce at no extra charge (something I've often experienced when changing a side dish, such as from potatoes to rice or vegetables to spinach). On all my visits, drinks were served promptly, and my companion and I never had to wait an unusually long time for our food.
Berni's Nudelbrett is, for me, the perfect restaurant to visit if you're not too concerned about the ambiance and simply want to feel comfortable and enjoy a good meal. Certainly, there are more stylish restaurants with a more sophisticated atmosphere, but the food is impeccable, and I would gladly return if, for example, I were craving a delicious Italian meal after shopping. I recommend giving this place a try if you're ever in the mood for tasty Italian food in a rather Bavarian setting. For me, Berni's Nudelbrett is the ideal alternative for good pizza. It means I don't always have to go to the nearby Vapiano in the Fünf Höfe shopping center, Riva im Tal, or another well-known pizza place in Munich's city center. Berni's Nudelbrett proves that simple can be truly excellent.
Card payments are accepted, and as you can see above, the prices are reasonable and definitely acceptable for Munich's city center. The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Gift vouchers are available, and you can also discuss custom menus for your parties and celebrations. They even offer gluten-free pasta – not bad, right? So, even those with allergies can enjoy a satisfying meal at Berni's Nudelbrett. If you have children, they have a great offer: a plate of pasta, a drink, and a small ice cream for €7.25. Definitely give it a try and order some delicious food; you'll see for yourself: the food is great, and the prices are fair and reasonable.
