Delicious pizzas, fantastic salads, and fine pasta dishes await you at L'Angolo in Haidhausen, near Munich's Ostbahnhof (East Station). Equally great fish dishes, cocktails, and takeaway or delivery options are also available. I recently went there for dinner with a companion on a whim, without a reservation. Parking is possible after a bit of searching, but it's easier to get there by public transport (any S-Bahn line, tram 19, or U-Bahn line 5). L'Angolo is a very long restaurant that extends deep into the building, with a long bar at the front where the oven for the freshly made pizzas is located. Upon entering, the pizza chef was standing behind the bar with a huge, fresh dough, tossing it in the air – quite a sight. We were immediately greeted by a friendly Italian gentleman and shown to a free table.

We opted for a pizza with salmon (€10.50) and a rocket salad with Parmesan (€6.50). We also ordered a small bottle of Volvic water (€2.80) and two glasses of Lugana (0.2l/€5.90 each). The wine was delicious and refreshing. I generally really like Lugana, and I especially enjoy it with Italian dishes and fresh salads. If you don't like salmon or arugula salad (both are highly recommended!), you can also try one of the many other pizzas (e.g., with tomato sauce and garlic for €4.80, prosciutto with ham for €8.20, pepperoni for €7.90, Vegetariana with various vegetables for €8.90, Gorgonzola for €8.90, Quattro Formaggi for €9.50, Caprese with tomato, mozzarella, and basil for €8.90, Hawaiian for €8.50, etc.). In addition, they offer specialty pizzas. These specialty pizzas all cost €10.50 (e.g., with black truffle, with porcini mushrooms, with bresaola and arugula, or with spicy salami and tomato pieces). For €20, you can order a "Gigante" pizza – a giant pizza with a 45cm diameter and your choice of toppings. Every Monday is pizza day at L'Angolo, and most pizzas cost only €5.50. Every Tuesday, children can get pizzas for €4.

Besides the exceptionally wide selection of pizzas, there's also a variety of pasta dishes ranging from €6.70 to €8.10. In addition to classic pasta dishes like spaghetti with tomato sauce and basil (€6.50), you'll find penne broccoli, rigatoni al 4 formaggi, gnocchi Napoli, tortellini alla gorgonzola, and many more. Every Wednesday is pasta day at the restaurant, with pasta dishes available for €5.50 to €6.50. If you're in the mood for risotto, delicious salads, lasagna, fish and meat dishes, or cheese selections for dessert, or if you'd like to enjoy typical Italian delicacies to finish your meal (tiramisu, profiteroles, panna cotta, etc.), this is the place for you. In my three or so visits, everything has always been delicious and perfectly prepared.

From 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, you can also have your meals delivered. Please refer to the menu on the website for the dishes available for delivery or pickup. L'Angolo also offers a lunch menu. Your pizza or pasta dish comes with the soup of the day or a salad. For example, Tagliatelle al Tartufo with black truffle and Parmesan shavings is only €9.90 at lunchtime, Spaghetti Pomodoro e Basilico with tomato sauce and basil is only €5.90, Spaghetti Mare is only €6.90, and Tagliatelle all'Emiliana with ham, mushrooms, peas, and cream sauce is also only €6.90. Pizzas are available at lunchtime for €6.90, and you can choose between Hawaiian, Margherita, Funghi, or Siciliana. If you have time in the evening, you can end the day with a delicious cocktail for an average of €6. You can also find these offers online at the Menu. You can also view the changing weekly menu online. For example, you might find grilled sea bream with a side salad (for €15.50), Parmesan waffles with turkey and vegetable filling (€8.90), or penne with fresh salsiccia and onions (€8.90).

I can definitely recommend a visit to L'Angolo. It's certainly not a fancy Italian restaurant with an extravagant menu and incredibly sophisticated culinary combinations, but it's definitely worth a visit. The food tastes very authentic and delicious. The salmon pizza was huge, generously topped with salmon, neither soggy nor too crispy, and my salad was also something I'd order again. We paid €34 including tip, which is quite reasonable for a pizza, a salad, two glasses of wine, and a small bottle of water in Munich-Haidhausen. We didn't necessarily want to stay longer than necessary because the ambiance is rather simple, and the focus is definitely on the good food and friendly service rather than ambiance, but it's still cozy, and I would come back anytime. I'd say if you're in the mood for a somewhat "simpler" Italian restaurant in a pleasant setting without any frills, with guaranteed delicious food, then come here.

I definitely recommend making a reservation on weekends. We've had to leave before because all of the restaurant's 20 to 25 tables were occupied. You can take a virtual tour of the restaurant on their website and see for yourself. The noise level is fine, and the service is good. L'Angolo is open Monday to Friday from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:30 pm to 12:30 am. On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, it's open from 4:00 pm to 12:30 am. Hot meals are served until midnight.

I'll be back: The food is simple but delicious. If you're looking for a sophisticated atmosphere, this isn't the place for you. But if the food is your top priority and you appreciate a relaxed vibe, then by all means, stop by.
