BAYERN BRAND – WE PASSIONATE FOR BAVARIA: the finest brandies from Bavaria
BAYERN BRAND: "FINE BRANDIES MEET GASTRONOMY" + + + – Taste and understand Bavarian premium brandies + + + || Recently, my companion and I accepted an invitation from the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism to an exclusive tasting of Bavarian fine brandies in Munich. The event focused on the world of Bavarian fine brandies, spirits, and liqueurs.
We learned interesting facts about the basics of tasting, about the differences between spirits, brandy and liqueurs, and why it is worthwhile for both restaurateurs and guests of a good restaurant not to always rely on wine, coffee and aperitif in a glass/cup, but to delve deeper into the world of Bavarian fine brandies, to offer them in their own restaurant and to get to know them.
BAYERN BRAND – Bavarian distillers introduce themselves
As part of the Bavarian fine spirits tasting, several Bavarian distillers were present, all of whom had won the State Honorary Award (some multiple times) for their products – high-quality Bavarian brandies, spirits, and liqueurs. My companion and I went from stand to stand, sampling some of the products while chatting with the distillers. Those present were:
1.) Pointner Fine Spirits (Pemmering) – Fine brandies, spirits, liqueurs, Munich caraway liqueur, fine brandies from rare varieties, Isen Gin
2.) Henninger Distillery (Flachslanden) – Pome fruit/stone fruit/grape/wild fruit/fine brandies aged in wooden barrels; vintage fine brandies, spirits, liqueurs, gin, whisky, absinthe, tasting sets and sparkling wine
3.) Eisele Fine Fruit Distillery (Offingen) – Pome fruit/stone fruit brandies, wood barrel-aged fruit brandies, spirits, gin, liqueurs
4.) Schulz Fine Fruit Distillery (Großheirath) – Fine fruit brandies, spirits, liqueurs, fruit in alcohol, whisky, gin (Phone: 09569466)
5.) Felshof Distillery (Sommerhausen) – Pome fruit/stone fruit/grape/wild fruit brandies, liqueurs (and own winery)
6.) Baron von Poschinger Estate Distillery (Frauenau) – Spirits, fine brandies, fine brandies aged in wooden barrels, gin, vodka, liqueurs
Interesting facts about fine brandies and their tasting
We learned a great deal on site that is worth knowing even before enjoying, buying privately, or selling fine spirits in one's own restaurant. For example, fine brandies, eaux-de-vie, liqueurs, and spirits differ significantly in their production methods and therefore also in their ingredients and qualities. Fine brandies They are always produced by distilling fermented fruits or other plant-based raw materials – without (!) the addition of sugar, flavorings, or other alcohols. They are characterized by their purity, intense flavor, and aromatic diversity. spirits In contrast, they are made from non-fermentable raw materials (e.g., herbs, spices, nuts, fruits with very little fructose, etc.), are macerated/infused in neutral alcohol, and then distilled. liqueur In contrast, it is always a mixture of alcohol, sugar, and agricultural products, namely fruit, berries, herbs, milk, honey, coffee; but sometimes also chocolate, cream, or beer. „"Spirituose"“ is the generic term for alcoholic beverages with at least 15% alcohol and may contain sugar, flavorings and added alcohol. „"Schnapps"“ Incidentally, in Bavaria, "spirit" is simply the common term for "anything distilled" and must be labelled as "spirit" when sold.
At the Tasting a good brandy There are several things to consider. A good brandy should not have any harshness and should showcase the aromatic diversity of the fruit used. During a tasting, the color, aroma, and taste, as well as the intensity and finish, are perceived and analyzed. Crucial to the quality of the brandy is the harmony of its aroma and flavor, as well as the finish, including its duration and intensity at the end of the tasting.
A fine brandy should always be savored attentively and slowly. Swallowing too quickly obscures the full experience. Before tasting, prepare yourself for new aromas and flavors, as each fine brandy has its own unique characteristics. Eat relatively neutral foods beforehand, such as bread, to cleanse your palate. Taking notes during the tasting can also be helpful, allowing you to compare, weigh, and decide afterward. With a little practice and patience, you'll discover your favorite Bavarian fine brandies.
Offer Bavarian fine brandies in your own restaurant
I know that many restaurateurs also read my posts. Therefore, my special appeal to you is to not only list good beers and wines on your menu, but also to upgrade your selection of fine brandies – from Bavaria!. Fine brandies bearing the "BAYERN BRAND" label are always of the very best quality and are tested multiple times according to a wide variety of criteria.
After a meal or with dessert, it doesn't always have to be sweet wine or the typical final espresso. Why not offer a delicious brandy? – It's best served in a special, tulip-shaped brandy glass. This intensifies the aromas and softens the alcohol taste; it also looks stylish and underscores the quality of the brandy and the other beverages offered in the establishment. By gently swirling the brandy in the glass, the aromas rise to the chimney and reach the nose in a concentrated burst; the long stem prevents any hand or skin odor from being carried over during the nasal tasting.
Proper tasting, enjoyment, and drinking can also be demonstrated and explained at the table to the guest as a sign of good service. A list of the best Bavarian distillers and recipients of distinguished Bavarian state awards can be found at [link/website address]. BAYERN BRAND website.
