The art market by the lake

Spring market at Steinsee | Art by the lake – Do you still remember my User review Do you remember the Steinsee restaurant? I was there for dinner last summer, and together with my companion, we discovered, tested, and even added it to our list of favorite restaurants. Favorites for the Munich area I've grown to love it. Now there's news about the restaurant.

The spring market at Steinsee | „Art by the Lake“ – The facts:

More precisely: On the second weekend of March, the 12th and 13th, from 11 am to 6 pm each day, a small spring market under the motto "Art by the Lake" will take place at the idyllic Steinsee lake. Several artists will be exhibiting a wide variety of handcrafted items – from porcelain and beadwork to scarves, knitwear, and ceramics. A total of nearly 15 different exhibitors will be present at various stands around Steinsee. Anyone interested in handcrafted items will find this the perfect opportunity to browse, explore, and purchase unique, handcrafted pieces while enjoying a stunning panoramic view of the lake. You can find a list of the vendors here. here.

New culinary experiences at Steinsee

Once you've had your fill of strolling through the small spring market and your stomach starts to rumble, you're just a stone's throw from the fantastic restaurant. It boasts an idyllic location overlooking the lake and a sunny terrace. Restaurant Steinsee offers superb cuisine with creative menus, new and varied dishes, and friendly service. Which brings us to the next highlight: the restaurant's new menu. The menus, conveniently divided into standard and children's menus, can be viewed on the website. The standard menu features a wide variety of soups, appetizers, salads, and main courses. Currently, there's also a delicious winter menu available for €40 per person. This includes tempting dishes such as a duet of gravlax and salmon tartare with potato pancakes, roasted duck breast with potato gratin and winter carrot vegetables, and two types of mousse (raspberry and chocolate). For those who prefer a single main course instead of a full menu, there's also a wide selection of dishes to choose from. Roast duck breast, whole beef fillet, Wiener Schnitzel, veal sirloin steak, sliced turkey, or even pike-perch fillet with a herb crust (between €9.80 and €24.50) are among the tempting dishes on the menu. And I certainly don't want to overlook the fact that the pasta dishes, such as the pasta with strips of beef, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and cream sauce (€14.90), can also be ordered gluten-free. While the gluten-free trend is growing, it's still not easy to find gluten-free options on a menu, especially in the Munich area. Here, however, it's possible.

Vegetarians will also find plenty to enjoy, for example, the "Steinsee's Original Curry" (also available with meat or fish) starting at €8.90. Last summer, I had a delicious goat's cheese salad and Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) from the old menu. So, they've thought of those who prefer meat-free options. "You can't go home in Bavaria without something sweet!" is a saying among connoisseurs. Restaurant Steinsee understands this and rejoices with a variety of cakes in the display case, mousse, nougat chocolate parfait, crème brûlée, and more. The new menu truly offers something for everyone: allergy sufferers, vegetarians, meat or fish lovers, and those with a sweet tooth. As mentioned, there's also a separate, smaller menu for children, where they can order pasta with tomato sauce or spaetzle with cream sauce for €4.90, as well as chicken nuggets with fries (€6.50).

The new fireplace in the Steinsee restaurant

Crackle, crackle – the new fireplace in the Steinsee restaurant

The last, and no less noteworthy, highlight I'd like to present in this article is the new fireplace in the restaurant. Take a look at the pictures in the gallery. Is there anything better than sitting by a warm fire on a cold, icy day, enjoying a meal, a hot drink, and warming up? Even after a relaxing day at the lake and a brisk walk, you can unwind and relax wonderfully by the restaurant's new fireplace. Only after taking a seat by the fireplace with its warming flames do you realize the positive impact its integration has on the restaurant's ambiance and atmosphere. Grab your loved ones and reserve a table right by the fireplace – it's truly cozy and the perfect spot for both warming up and enjoying a relaxing evening.

My personal conclusion

If you'd like to stop by and also try out one of my 10 favorite spots in the Munich area, the second weekend in March with the spring market at Steinsee is perfect for it. Again: Here You can find out more about the "Art by the Lake" event, organized by Cucinelli Art & Café, and optionally RSVP. Without wanting to diminish the spring market, I must encourage you again to definitely visit the Steinsee Restaurant – even at a later date if you don't have time for the market this weekend. Of course, combining the spring market with a restaurant visit, enjoying plenty of sunshine on the terrace or a coffee by the fireplace, is perfect on March 12th and/or 13th. The view of the lake alone is worth the trip – topped off with excellent cuisine, cozy hours by the fireplace, friendly service, and an all-around feel-good atmosphere. I will definitely be taking advantage of the Steinsee spring market, eating there, and stopping by.
