Restaurant Steinsee in Niederseeon Good news for everyone longing for a vacation; for anyone who loves nature; for those who can't afford an expensive flight; and for those seeking relaxation and a taste of pure vacation: I've discovered something! The Steinsee Restaurant, which reopened at the end of May 2014. Dreamily situated, its idyllic beauty in terms of view, location, and atmosphere is hard to beat. Add to that good food, friendly service, and simply the perfect place for a "one-day vacation" for the soul. Just a 25-minute drive from Munich and definitely worth a visit.

Restaurant Steinsee is the ideal place for everything you could wish for in terms of cuisine: perfect for summer days as a swimming spot, excellent for lunch and coffee and cake, and at the same time a hotspot for atmospheric yet cozy dinners in a perfect setting with a view of the lake. Here you can enjoy a relaxed dinner with friends, colleagues, or family, as well as a romantic candlelight dinner for two. This is even possible on the spacious terrace, just a stone's throw from the lake – thanks to numerous patio heaters and warm blankets that ensure you stay warm. I myself am always cold, but I sat outside every time, not inside, because the view is simply too beautiful, and I didn't feel cold at all.

Both times I was there – once during the day and once in the evening – I felt completely at ease. During my weekend visit, I sat on the terrace, enjoyed my salad with goat cheese (or rather, the Käsespätzle with my friends), and simply relaxed. We also had a delicious aperitif ("Apple Spritz" with Ramazzotti Rosato, apple, vanilla, and sparkling wine), and all was right with the world. When the sun comes out and shimmers on the lake's surface, you feel like you've arrived in Bavarian paradise.

During my visit, I naturally also took a look inside, lingered briefly at the generous cake counter, and then focused my attention on the interior. Lots of glass, a bright and welcoming atmosphere, comfortably divided seating areas, and plenty of space. Despite the lively flow of guests and the friendly staff, as most people prefer to sit on the large terrace, there wasn't even a hint of unpleasant hustle and bustle. There are always restaurants that are otherwise excellent, but you still don't feel truly comfortable due to the atmosphere created by noise, hectic staff, and so on. This was absolutely not the case at the idyllic Steinsee location.

So…to perhaps the most important thing: the food. What does the menu offer? As mentioned, there's cake. Many different and delicious varieties. During my visit, one lady looked slightly tense because I simply couldn't stop staring at her pear cream cake with a chocolate base (I asked… ;-)). The standard menu offers a good mix of dishes. Right from the start, you can choose between bread with herbed cream cheese and butter or garlic bread with avocado cream (for €2.50 or €5.50). Then it continues deliciously with various soups, salads, and appetizers. From the potato cream soup in a preserving jar (€8.50), to the attractively presented goat cheese salad (see photos/€13.80), to the bread dumpling carpaccio (€11.80). Steinsee offers a lot of light cuisine. For example, you can order a baked potato, a salad with salmon trout and shrimp, or an autumnal salad with king oyster mushrooms. For pasta lovers, we currently offer dishes like linguine with strips of beef fillet, king oyster mushrooms, tomatoes, and cream sauce. Risotto, Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle), fish specialties, and meat dishes ranging from beef (e.g., Bavarian young bull) to pork fillet, venison goulash, and veal schnitzel – we have everything a Bavarian heart desires (meat dishes between €15.80 and €26, fish dishes from €14 to €21.50). Numerous sauces and dips, as well as side dishes like vegetables, (truffled) fries, pumpkin gratin, and more, can be ordered with the fish or meat dishes.

As you can see, the menu is anything but ordinary and offers a wide variety of options. Furthermore – a big plus in my opinion – the menu indicates allergens, which is still legally required, but here you can see for every dish whether or not it's suitable for those with an intolerance. And it doesn't stop at pasta for allergy sufferers, as Restaurant Steinsee serves gluten-free pasta upon request. Pretty cool, right? They also offer gluten-free bread, so even those with allergies can enjoy a delicious meal from the menu at Steinsee. For those with a sweet tooth who don't fancy cake, there's crème brûlée, cappuccino cream, or roasted almond ice cream (4.50€ – 7.80€).

What I really want to emphasize again is how wonderful the restaurant and terrace are in the evening for a set menu or dinner. Imagine picking up your sweetheart and bringing her here, by candlelight, right by the lake, with a fantastic meal. It's bound to be a memorable occasion. 😉 The same goes for a casual get-together with colleagues, a meeting with your boss about a raise, or simply a lovely meal with friends. 🙂 The pictures speak for themselves, and once you've been there, you'll know: "Wow, Bianca was absolutely right again!" 🙂 Get in your car and let yourself be surprised. I also want to mention the possibility of spending New Year's Eve here. A gala menu with five courses, pre-selected by the restaurant's kitchen team and including an aperitif, awaits you – preceded by a festive reception. You can then enjoy the meal with musical accompaniment and afterwards watch the New Year's Eve fireworks. The menu, or rather the evening, costs €79 per person and will certainly be great: good food, nice people and the lake right in front of you.

In general, the location is ideal for events. The premises can accommodate up to 200 people, making it perfect for birthday parties, weddings (e.g., with a lakeside ceremony), or corporate events at Steinsee. The panoramic terrace, offering breathtaking views, seats 40, the lakeside terrace 80, and the restaurant itself can accommodate approximately 80-100 people. Equally cool is the bookable curling rink, which costs €4.50 per person. It's sure to be a fun addition to any celebration. If you're interested, or indeed anyone should consider visiting this idyllic restaurant, you should definitely stop by. They'll soon be serving mulled wine, hot Aperol, and the "Hot Inge." But don't get too excited – it's "just" a kind of Hugo with a shot of ginger liqueur to warm you up. You'll want to eat at home (…or at Restaurant Steinsee…!) 😉

My personal conclusion is therefore quite clear: definitely stop by and enjoy this little getaway for mind, body, and soul. 🙂 The food is delicious, the atmosphere is incredibly cozy, and it's rare to see a guest leave immediately after finishing their meal. It's a place where you can truly relax, eat, drink, sit, and unwind. The restaurant is closed on Mondays in October and November. The restaurant, with its lakeside terrace, is open weekdays from 11:30 am to 10:00 pm, with hot meals served from 11:30 am to 8:30 pm, and until 9:00 pm on weekends. Breakfast is also served on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. I'll be trying it soon and will report back.
