Sweets and desserts are usually only rarely a temptation for me; however, if you put high-quality chocolate and pralines in front of me, I give in and gladly indulge. My personal connection to Läderach

How did I become aware of Läderach? And why do I want to share my enthusiasm with you? – Quite simply: A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try Läderach chocolate through acquaintances, and immediately after my first "test bite," I realized that it was definitely very good and high-quality chocolate. Since I had wanted to try it for a long time but unfortunately never investigated further, I wanted to learn more after that first taste.

No sooner said than done, on one of my next trips downtown, I decided to make my long-awaited visit to Läderach in Munich. I browsed around and selected some of the delicacies from the Läderach counter and shelves. The "FrischSchoggi™" (broken chocolate) that I sampled was also among my choices. Now, after numerous visits to Läderach, the Swiss chocolatier is one of my absolute favorites when I want to treat myself to something sweet and chocolatey, have a craving for pralines, or am looking for wonderful and unique souvenirs. These days, almost no trip to the city is complete without a little something sweet from Läderach. My long-held desire to learn more about and taste Läderach has been fulfilled and rewarded with many delicious tastings. I want to share my joy with you and encourage you to explore their selection and treat yourselves to some delicious chocolate.

A milestone: Läderach's production of the thin-walled "Truffes hollow spheres".

The story of Läderach – then and now

For me, the perfect indulgence always includes a glimpse behind the scenes. So, before indulging, I want to learn about the history of Läderach and share it with you. For Läderach, it all began 60 years ago in 1962. In that year, chocolatier Rudolf Läderach Jr. founded "Confiserie Läderach AG" in Glarus, once a small Swiss village. The idea was to open and run a "small confectionery of sweet gifts," thus delighting people with exquisite delicacies. The plan succeeded, and eight years later, in 1970, the same chocolatier invented and patented the revolutionary process for producing thin-walled hollow truffle spheres – a milestone for the simplified and improved production of the finest truffles, as well as for the Läderach company. More and more people became aware of Läderach. In 1994, almost 20 years after the start of the successful company history, a generational change took place at Läderach and Rudolf Läderach's son, Jürg Läderach, took over the company – always in connection with the goal set from the beginning to produce unique chocolate creations from the best raw materials.

Expansion and introduction of „FrischSchoggi™“ | After another ten successful years, in 2004, Läderach acquired the Swiss company Merkur Confiserien AG, which had over 40 branches. This allowed Läderach to reach even more lovers of delicious chocolate creations and the right end consumers. That same year, the idea for "FrischSchoggi™" – you may remember – was born, and for the first time, customers had the opportunity to break off a piece of their favorite chocolate while shopping at the chocolate shop and have it bagged up to take home and sample. The concept was so well received that to this day, you can have pieces of "FrischSchoggi™" broken off at any Läderach branch. Imagine it like a cheese counter, but with chocolate: You choose your preferred type of chocolate (…I guarantee you won't stop at just one ;-)…), decide how much you want broken off, and it's presented to you attractively packaged in a little bag. Today, Läderach's "FrischeSchoggi" is available in over 20 different varieties and "Limited Editions" – by the way, an ideal gift and also available pre-assembled with different varieties in the store – simply ask for the "FrischSchoggi™–Säckli" or "-Schiffli".

Läderach also offers a wide selection of delicious chocolates.

Continuing the Läderach story: After just over four years, in 2008, the Merkur chocolate shops were rebranded, and the "Läderach – chocolatier suisse" brand was launched. This further milestone coincided with the opening of flagship stores in Zurich (Bahnhofstrasse) and Bern (Spitalgasse). Läderach continued its successful expansion, and in 2010, additional chocolate boutiques were opened in Freiburg, Konstanz, and Munich. South Korea also celebrated the opening of a second Läderach store that year. Ten years ago, Läderach opened its fascinating chocolate factory in Bilten, Switzerland – a major step, as it enabled complete management and control of the entire production chain, from the cocoa bean to the finished product.

Another generational change and reason to rejoice | In 2018, the third generation joined the Läderach family business, with Jürg Läderach handing over operational responsibility to his sons Johannes (CEO of the Läderach Group) and Elias. The youngest son, David Läderach, also joined the family-run company and took charge of its digital transformation. That same year, Läderach had another reason to celebrate: the world's best chocolatier comes from their own Swiss family. Elias Läderach triumphed over 19 international competitors at the "World Chocolate Masters 2018 in Paris" with his exceptional chocolate creations. Incredible, isn't it?

Since 2019, Läderach has also had a presence in the USA, Canada, and, for the first time, in London. Today, more than 1,000 employees of nearly 50 different nationalities are part of the Läderach family.

Production takes place solely and strictly according to Läderach's own established quality standards at its production facilities in Bilten and Ennenda. Läderach employs true artists, chocolate professionals, and genuine masters of their craft. This is evident in every single product on the counters and shelves. No wonder, since many of the products are still handmade today – always adhering to and continuing the traditional craft of a chocolatier.

I inquired about what makes Läderach products so special: at Läderach, high-quality raw materials, freshness, and top-notch quality are paramount. All ingredients are selected with the utmost care and regularly tested for optimal quality. Only the very best is good enough to end up in Läderach products. This means that the fresh and exceptionally delicious taste of their chocolates and pralines is of utmost importance to Läderach. Every step of the chocolate production process is carefully and meticulously monitored by Läderach – from the cocoa farm to the attractively stocked counters and shelves filled with their finest products.
