Landgasthof Wagner Altmühltal Good morning! I recently attended a "wine evening" featuring wines from the Polz winery at the Wagner country inn in the Altmühl Valley. A five-course meal was served, accompanied by wonderful wines. The aperitif was a crisp and easy-drinking Brut Rosé, along with small appetizers (open-faced sandwiches with high-quality ham and salami, fish balls, lentil salad, etc.) that were brought to the table.
The evening began with course 1: fillet of lake trout with yellow beet, endive, and garden quince, accompanied by a 2016 CZAMILLA Sauvignon Blanc. Course 2 featured a lightly smoked duck breast with pumpkin and curry, paired with a 2014 GRASSNITZBERG Chardonnay. The third course, Arctic char with Bavarian saltwater prawn, beetroot, and horseradish, was accompanied by a 2015 HOCHGRASSNITZBERG Sauvignon Blanc (Grand Cru vineyard). You'd be hard-pressed to find a more tender beef fillet than the one served in course 4, with calf's head, Jerusalem artichoke, and pear. My absolute favorite! This was paired with a 2012 Urbani. Last but not least, course 5, dessert, with a spiced cake and pomegranate sorbet, and a glass of Brut Blanc, brought this wonderful evening to a close.
The Altmühl Valley is located about 100 kilometers from Munich, offers stunning natural scenery and also – in the Wagner Country Inn – the opportunity to eat really excellent food. So, for your next weekend trip, that would be my tip.
