Silvaner Home of Franconia | Franconian wines in the Old Congress Hall – All in the spirit of Silvaner, 40 top winemakers from Franconia will meet in Munich (Alte Kongresshalle, Theresienhöhe 15, 80339 Munich) on Thursday, November 9, 2017, starting at 4:30 p.m. The reason? – The presentation of their best wines.

Silvaner Home of Franconia – The WineWalks

As soon as the doors open, you can drop by, discover new wines, ask your questions to the winemakers present, discover new favorites and enjoy the on offer. Wine Walks – together with the local sommeliers – participate. There are five this year – two of which („WineWalk II – Sparkling Wine, Crémant & Secco“ and „WineWalk III – Wines for the Holidays – Great Wines“) are already sold out. Space is still available in the WineWalks „WineWalk I – TRIAS – Making the Influence of the Soil Tangible“ and „WineWalk IV – Something for the Nose – Aromatic Grape Varieties“.

Special tastings and short seminars

For the "Special Tasting in the Cubes" within the WineWalk offerings, you can simply drop by without prior registration. Several Franconian Wine Princesses will be on hand to guide you, and you can simply drop in anytime after 4:30 pm. During the special tasting, "Mash vs. Must Fermentation" will present Silvaner fermented on the skins alongside Silvaner made using the traditional must fermentation method. In the "Best of Gold" tasting, an expert jury from across Germany will select the best of the already award-winning Franconian wines. Right next door, starting at 7:00 pm, a 30-minute professional wine tasting in the form of a short seminar will take place with "EINFACH GENIESSEN" from Munich. Here, you'll have the opportunity to learn not only whether a wine tastes good or not, but also why it's worthwhile to engage more consciously with wine and how, with some basic knowledge and a systematic approach, you can quickly learn to compare and evaluate different wines. If you're generally more interested in Silvaner, you can alternatively attend the parallel short seminar – again held by EINFACH GENIESSEN – and learn quite a bit about the Silvaner grape variety. For example, you'll discover that until the 1970s, 301,030 hectares of German vineyards were planted with this grape, and now, after a dramatic decline over the last 20 years, Silvaner is once again enjoying widespread popularity. Get to know its multifaceted nature in an exciting and surprising way.

In addition to these special tastings in the foyer of the Old Congress Hall, Franconian delicacies will also be available to satisfy your hunger. This year, the phalanx of participating winemakers will once again provide a true "wine cinema" experience. You'll encounter not only established wineries and small-scale producers, but also some hidden gems and up-and-coming wines. Participating wineries include various Franconian estates (for example, "Am Vögelein" (Nordheim am Main), Juliusspital (Würzburg), "Max Müller I" (Volkach), "Then" (Sommerach), "WEINWERK" (Würzburg), "Zang" (Sommerach), and many more), Kremers Winzerhof from Großheubach, the organic winery of Stephan Kraemer from Auernhofen, the private winery Schmitt from Bergtheim, and the cooperatives DIVINO Nordheim Thüngersheim eG and WINZER SOMMERACH.

Local winemakers will not only be pouring their excellent Silvaners, Rieslings, Pinot Noirs, and other varieties, but you can also discover, explore, and taste (and of course, purchase) rare specialties.
