My new kitchen appliances from WILFA – Over the past year or two, my interest in cooking has steadily increased. While my main focus will probably always remain eating out, I'm spending more and more time in my own kitchen – simply because I enjoy it. Since this hasn't been the case for very long, until recently my kitchen equipment was only moderately good – I couldn't even manage without a really good knife. So, I decided to equip myself with the very appliances that were most often my "excuse" for eating out. I shopped directly at WILFA and tried to buy everything I needed, from breakfast to dinner.
My kitchen appliance purchase at WILFA
I'll let the cat out of the bag right away: I've chosen a total of seven different appliances. The only thing I already have plenty of is good cookware; otherwise, I was pretty much at a loss or only had mediocre kitchen equipment. Number one, because it's been on my mind for a long time: a high-performance blender that I can use to make smoothies in the morning and that can also crush ice. I opted for the one with the elegant design. WILFA Mixer XPLODE BOOST with 1200 watts and therefore plenty of power – more on that below.
With breakfast in mind, I ordered a white WILFA toaster. My last one unfortunately broke due to what was probably "too vigorous handling" 😉 and I opted for the... WILFA Toaster FROZEN FOOD. 800 watts under the hood, 5 browning levels, and two toasting slots. It can defrost and reheat and has a handy crumb tray. Do you always check the top of your toaster to see if your toast is brown enough? – I do, so a cancel button was essential for me. And indeed, since I got my new toaster, I've already had toast with shrimp and egg twice, as well as a delicious soup with a thick slice of toasted bread – which fits easily into the extra-wide slots. At €50, it's a worthwhile purchase. Here's to good toasting!
Two "tools" that I always missed most when I was actually in the kitchen: a good knife and a high-quality induction frying pan. I do have a large braising pan, but I simply never used it for my small amounts of vegetables, meat, fish, or scrambled eggs. So, ta-da, I opted for what I consider to be the super cool... WILFA Duo Pan Produre Pro With a three-layer ceramic-reinforced non-stick coating. It has a diameter of 30 centimeters and, get this, is divided into two separate cooking surfaces. I tried it out right away and prepared yellow curry with roasted onions and plenty of sauce on one side, while simultaneously cooking fresh chicken breast on the other. A sensational invention, as I often want to prepare two different dishes in one pan without them touching. 😉 The pan can be heated up to 260 degrees Celsius and won't be ruined immediately if you use metal utensils in it – but don't. 😉 The price was 80 euros.
My chosen knife, the WILFA Chef's Knife EGO Sandvik I really like it. The blade is made of high-quality Sandvik 12C27 knife steel; the handle is stainless steel. My new knife – which cost €100 – was designed in Norway and is a true all-rounder. I deliberately chose not to get a knife "just" for meat, fish, or vegetables, as I prefer to have a good one in my drawer that I can use for all kinds of tasks. Of course, I tried it out right away and I have to admit: a good knife makes cooking more enjoyable. The knife promises to last a very long time without dulling or becoming blunt – I'm curious to see how it holds up. It's easy to work with because it's thin and flexible, making it suitable for all kinds of food. Even I know that it shouldn't go in the dishwasher. 😉
So, number five, and my new highlight in terms of "soup making" is my really chic and powerful WILFA ESSENTIAL Hand Blender With 700 watts. I've always wanted one of these, and every time I walked past the pumpkin sale around the corner, I thought: Bianca, you really need one of these. Great, now I have one, and a good one at that. For 50 euros, you get the immersion blender including a mixing container and lid – so nothing splashes around while blending. My immersion blender has a continuously variable speed control, and thanks to the powerful motor, it blends all the ingredients effortlessly and evenly. A good choice, also because it has a rubberized handle and didn't slip out of my fingers while blending – even with wet hands.
Admittedly, my new purchase was a "just-for-fun" purchase. WILFA Multi-Chopper ESSENTIAL The MC3B-400S cost 60 euros. When I proudly showed it off, the first comment was, "What do you need something like that for?" After cooking with it, the response was, "Yeah, okay, this thing is really great!" And it is. With its 1.2-liter capacity, 400-watt motor, and three removable blades, this food processor chops everything up in no time at all, at two different speed settings. I used it to make my own chopped nuts for my muesli because I don't like biting down on really hard, larger nuts. It worked very well, and I'm already looking forward to chopping all sorts of things with it. 😉
Last but not least, and simply a must-have for every good kitchen: a waffle iron. At €100 for an appliance that you certainly won't use as often as a frying pan or a knife, it's not exactly a bargain, but very worthwhile, because the one I bought WILFA Waffle Iron HEARTS 23 It's simply top quality. Not only does it have an adjustable thermostat with three different browning levels, but it also consistently produces perfectly evenly browned waffles. This is partly due to the integrated ventilation valves, which allow moisture to escape more effectively than with a run-of-the-mill waffle iron. Plus, it heats up incredibly fast – almost as fast as it's easy to clean afterwards, because the high-quality coating prevents sticking – but I'm still not sharing! 😉 My waffles!
My favorite: The WILFA XPLODE BOOST mixer
Yep, the name says it all: My new blender is absolutely amazing and packs a serious punch. With 1200 watts – I did some research beforehand to find out the minimum wattage a good blender should have – it delivers the necessary power and, with 22,000 revolutions per minute, really gets things moving in the container. I started with just grapes for my morning shake, thinking, "Don't overdo it." 😉 Of course, that was a bit much for my new kitchen powerhouse, and it crushed the ice cubes I added afterward in no time and without any trouble. It's not watermelon season right now – it's my absolute favorite fruit – but I'm already looking forward to making up to 1.8 liters – that's the capacity of the WILFA XPLODE BOOST blender – of watermelon juice with crushed ice. Yum! What ultimately made this blender my favorite is its integrated pulse/self-cleaning function. It chops and shreds everything super fast and thoroughly at various speed settings, and then even cleans itself afterwards. The attached rubber feet are especially practical. They allow the WILFA mixer to adhere firmly to the countertop, preventing it from tipping over or wobbling. A typical hole in the tightly sealed lid allows you to add extra ingredients. I absolutely love watching through the glass jar and seeing my ingredients being chopped up in no time. It's a great gadget and definitely my new kitchen essential. My refreshing grape iced drink for breakfast was incredibly smooth and practically lump-free. Thumbs up – even at the price of 100 euros.
„"Me while cooking" and my personal conclusion
Let me start by saying no, there are no recipes for my shake, my yellow chicken curry, my shrimp toast, or the sweet waffles. 😉 I usually cook very freestyle, especially when I'm not officially testing a product, and sometimes things get a bit out of hand, with me spontaneously adding extra ingredients. My new kitchen appliances haven't disappointed me at all. Nothing jammed, jerked, malfunctioned, or was particularly difficult to clean. Either they go in the dishwasher or I use the self-cleaning program. Spending 500 euros on seven top-quality appliances and then being able to cook well and "without distractions" for several years is, in my opinion, well worth it.
