Today we had lunch at Preysinggarten – located on Preysingstraße in Haidhausen, not far from Max-Weber-Platz. It's certainly possible to get there by car, but finding a parking spot right in front isn't always easy, taking only 5 minutes.
This morning we decided rather spontaneously to have lunch at Preysingarten (thanks to Benno for the tip!). So we called ahead, asked for a table for "in 1.5 hours," and even though everything was fully booked, they assured us they would hold a table for two until 12:30. When we arrived, everything was occupied except for a small table right next to the kitchen, which had been reserved for us. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly waitress and shown to our table. I was even asked if I preferred that table or the only empty one in the back. (I checked out that room later—a smaller room with about eight tables.).
We took seats at the front and were immediately handed the extensive menus by another very friendly waitress. Unfortunately, the Preysinggarten menus aren't available online – I've taken a photo of the menu for you, including the weekly specials displayed at the front. In addition, there are further dishes and drinks listed on boards on the restaurant walls, such as a pizza with Gorgonzola, pear, and Parmesan, or mussels with white wine or tomato sauce. Overall, the menu left little to be desired: from pizza and pasta to fish and meat dishes, as well as various vegetarian options, small snacks, salads, and soups. We opted for pancake soup as a starter and two different main courses. The starter arrived incredibly quickly after we ordered, and this continued right through to dessert and the cappuccino at the end: remarkably friendly and efficient staff who clearly enjoy serving and working. Although – which is the only negative point to note, but is not really within the staff's control – the Preysinggarten was incredibly loud, crowded and hectic due to the relatively small size of the restaurant, the waitstaff were consistently cheerful and courteous.
We chose salmon medallions with potato gratin and a mixed salad with warm feta cheese, tomatoes, and walnuts. The dishes arrived simultaneously and very quickly after ordering. The salmon was very tender and delicious. The accompanying potato gratin wasn't anything particularly special, but it tasted fine. The portion was quite filling and not too small. The salad was very large. As you can see in the photo, there was an incredible amount of cheese on the salad – I couldn't finish it, but I was very happy with the taste of my salad. For dessert, we chose the profiteroles from the rather extensive menu (see photo) for about five euros. These were incredibly rich, and we left more than half of them. Overall, the food was very tasty, not particularly elaborate or "special" in its preparation, but absolutely recommendable and delicious.
The Preysing Garden itself exudes a very pleasant atmosphere, although, as mentioned, the noise level is quite high. The approximately 22 tables – including the back room – were all fully occupied, each adorned with a flower and a candlestick, and placed rather close together. In the center of the dining area – which also houses the small bar – a silver-painted column with ornaments graces the space. The Preysing Garden is bright, with white walls, gray-painted wall panels, and large skylights. Overall, with the dark parquet floor and the light, welcoming design elements, it's definitely a comfortable and inviting space.
Another slightly "difficult" aspect of our table was the kitchen's revolving door, which swung open approximately every 20-30 seconds and hit our table directly. Staff members scurried past us every second, brushing against me and my chair, which added to the feeling of commotion. In total, we paid €47 including tip. Card payments are accepted at Preysinggarten. I would definitely come back – perhaps one evening during the week to enjoy a more tranquil atmosphere.
I'll be back: Yes. Nothing wrong with that. Delicious food, very friendly staff. No, not if I absolutely want peace and quiet around me.
