MYTHOS – Unterhaching – Greek

Mythos in Unterhaching is a very chic Greek restaurant with delicious Mediterranean cuisine and was recommended to me to try – thank you so much, Vanessa! 🙂 We decided very spontaneously to visit Mythos last night around 8:30 pm and were not disappointed.

Even from the outside, the restaurant's appeal is undeniable: a chic entrance area, a huge wooden terrace with wicker furniture – surely a wonderful place to sit and eat in the summer – subtle lighting, and an inviting ambiance. Upon entering, you find yourself in a bright, welcoming space with a coat rack, which leads directly into the dining area. Mythos is stylishly and invitingly designed, beautifully – perhaps a little too elaborately – decorated, and boasts a cozy atmosphere: light cream-colored walls, small diamond-shaped chains adorning slender, floor-to-ceiling columns and recessed spotlights, dark parquet flooring, beautifully decorated and illuminated windows, numerous candlesticks, vases, glasses, plants, etc. It's best to take a look at the photos to see what Mythos looks like inside. The design and layout of the restrooms are also worth mentioning. 🙂 Wallpapered walls and toilet doors with a scrolling pattern, a huge rose-colored velvet armchair, a selection of hand soaps and creams, and stylish mirrors. So if you're in the Mythos, make sure you absolutely go to the toilet. 😉

The friendly service at Mythos is a real plus. Immediately upon entering, both the waiter and the owner (who was present last night, at least) shake hands and greet you with "Hello and good evening!" or "Servus!" We opted for a four-person table made of dark wood with a light tablecloth and a stylish candlestick in the right-hand section of the restaurant. We sat down on the comfortably upholstered, cream-colored benches in front of a huge, wall-to-wall gold mirror adorned with small rhinestone chandeliers and were immediately presented with the extensive menu. Menus.

For drinks, we chose a shandy and a Hugo (Hugo for €4.50). The Hugo was a bit too sweet, meaning it was made with too much elderflower syrup. On a positive note, the Hugo was served without a straw, but when we asked for one, the waiter brought it with a napkin, thus avoiding touching the straw with his fingers. The shandy wasn't particularly tasty – somewhat bland and very beer-heavy, and the beer itself wasn't very good. At €3.20, the price of the shandy would have been reasonable.

The menu, along with the daily specials, offers a very extensive selection of dishes. For example, for our starter, we opted for a pumpkin soup with vanilla flavoring and a prawn and scallop as garnish for a hefty €8.90. We shared the soup and both found it very tasty, though not very vanilla-y and not quite pumpkin-y enough, but still delicious. The prawn was good, but a bit tricky to remove from the soup and separate into edible and inedible parts. For our main course, my companion chose the "Sportsman's Salad" with bean sprouts, grilled turkey breast, and plenty of fresh salad for €10.90 – it was very tasty, had a generous portion of turkey breast, and was a good size. My fish platter, which I ordered for €18.90, consisted of pike-perch fillet (exceptionally tender and delicate!), baby calamari, and two whole scampi – served with rosemary potatoes and fresh stir-fried vegetables (bell peppers and zucchini). All in all, excellent and very tasty. A Greek, homemade remoulade was served in half a seashell. If you like fish, I definitely recommend this dish.

Those who don't like that have plenty of alternatives to choose from, such as numerous lamb, fish, meat, and grilled specialties. The number of appetizers, soups, salads, antipasti, and desserts offered is also considerable. Overall, Mythos is priced somewhat higher. However, everything tasted excellent – except for the shandy and the potato-based pumpkin soup.

Mythos is open Monday to Sunday from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm (hot food until 2:30 pm) and from 5:30 pm to midnight (hot food until 11:30 pm). Card payments are accepted at Mythos. We paid €50 for two main courses and an appetizer, as well as two drinks, including tip. We were both satisfied and would definitely come back. This was primarily due to the impeccably friendly service, which was never intrusive, the pleasant handshake at the end, the great atmosphere, and, of course, the excellent food. Anyone who enjoys Greek cuisine won't go wrong with Mythos. It's not exactly centrally located, but if you're looking for a high-quality restaurant with Greek food, Mythos is the place to go. As we left, we received two strawberry liqueurs and a handshake with happy Christmas greetings.
