Freisinger Hof | Weinviertel in your neighborhood | Restaurant number 4 of 14 My restaurant tour in connection with the "Weinviertel in Your Neighborhood" campaign is in full swing. Over the last few days, I've been... Restaurant Blauer Bock, the Halali, as well as the essence including wines from the Weinviertel region. Now, we'll look at restaurant number 4 of the 14 restaurants participating in the "Weinviertel in Your Neighborhood" campaign, which runs until June 30th.Here I will explain the campaign in detail for anyone who wants to read more. The fourth restaurant for me was the Freisinger Hof.
The Freisinger Hof from the inside
Freisinger Hof: Ambiance and furnishings
Located on the high banks of the Isar River, the restaurant has been open since 1995. It's part of the adjacent, country-style Hotel Freisinger Hof and is known for its upscale cuisine. The moment I stepped inside, I was eager to learn more about the restaurant and the hotel, as well as, of course, the food and the excellent wines on offer. Currently, four more wines from the Weinviertel region have been added to the Freisinger Hof's extensive wine list. The restaurant itself seats up to 100 people at 27 tables. On the sunny and very inviting terrace – I stepped out while waiting for my main course – there are 40 tables with seating for another 150 guests. The restaurant, divided into various seating areas and rooms, features light wood, pre-set tables, and cozy details. For example, a huge wine cabinet is stocked in the passageway between the main room and an adjoining room, which can also be used for events and celebrations. The Freisinger Hof has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The warm terracotta tile floors, the abundance of light wood and the massive influx of natural light make the rooms, including the bar, a cozy and comfortable place to relax.

Upon my arrival at the restaurant, I received a warm welcome and was asked where I would like to sit. Since I was feeling quite hot, I opted for a table for two inside, in a small, private dining area with just three tables. Very cozy and intimate. I sat down and was immediately presented with the current menu, including the lunch specials. At the Freisinger Hof, the lunch specials consist of various dishes offered on weekdays from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. These dishes range in price from €6.50 to €27.50. Currently, for example, there's a boiled beef broth with veal liver spaetzle (€6.50), roasted corn-fed chicken on chanterelle risotto (€18.50), or sea bream fillet on sugar snap peas, lobster sauce, and buttered potatoes (€25.50).
The Freisinger Hof restaurant offers Austrian-Bavarian cuisine. Its flagship and main focus is its meat dishes, featuring a wide variety of beef dishes from fattened cattle. From shank and shoulder to brisket and beef tongue, to a medley of boiled beef, there's something for everyone. The menu also includes various appetizers (gratinated goat cheese, carpaccio, asparagus salad, etc. from €11), main courses (fish, meat, vegetarian from €17.50), soups (currently asparagus cream soup or wild garlic foam soup for €9.50), and a selection of desserts (e.g., crepes, chocolate mousse, quark or apricot dumplings from €8). For events outside of regular dining hours, the Freisinger Hof is happy to create customized menus.

My selection and rating
I was hot and didn't have an appetite for heavy food. So the server assigned to me was kind enough to offer a recommendation. I took his advice, and shortly afterward, along with my glass of Yellow Muscat (from the Pollerhof winery), I was served a fantastic and incredibly refreshing, yet light, appetizer. Along with a bread basket containing three types of fresh bread, there were seared scallops with avocado and tomato salad from the lunch menu (€15.50), and I can only tell you: order it! Combined with the Weinviertel wine (available until the end of June!), it was simply divine and ideal for a light to medium appetite. Scallops are already a culinary delight on their own, but with the dressed avocado and diced tomatoes, they were simply superb. An added bonus was that the dish didn't leave me feeling at all stuffed afterward, allowing me to confidently choose my main course. But don't forget to order the Weinviertel DAC, a dry Grüner Veltliner from the Schuckert winery, as well.
For my main course, I chose asparagus spears with potatoes and homemade hollandaise sauce, perfectly complementing the "vom Löss" cuvée made from Yellow Muscat and Sauvignon Blanc (from the Pollerhof winery). I love asparagus, and Muscat is generally a favorite of mine. During asparagus season, I rarely order anything other than asparagus, so the portion of asparagus from the Freisinger Hof was a real treat. Seven spears of asparagus, a wonderfully flavorful sauce served in a separate pitcher, and delicious, tender potatoes were presented beautifully. Unfortunately, I simply couldn't finish it, and when hunger struck a few hours later, I almost turned around and asked for the rest. 😉 The dry "vom Löss" cuvée (from the Pollerhof winery) was my absolute favorite wine during my visit to the Freisinger Hof. The label alone (see photos) deserves a small prize and is almost perfect in combination with the main course I chose.

Recommendation from the Freisinger Hof
According to owner and operator Karl Wallisch, a visit to the Freisinger Hof is particularly worthwhile for its Viennese beef cuisine, especially the boiled ox prepared in various ways on the menu. Generally speaking, this is the place to go if you're looking for authentic Austrian-Bavarian cuisine and want to choose from a wide selection of wines (over 130 Austrian wines on the wine list and at least 10 wines available by the glass at all times). Until the end of June, wines from the Weinviertel region are also available. For example, the Freisinger Hof team recommends pairing the Gelber Muskateller Vom Löss (Pollerhof Winery) with the currently featured asparagus with potatoes and homemade hollandaise sauce (I can only agree!). The Grüner Veltliner from the Schuckert Winery, on the other hand, goes particularly well with meat or my appetizer of scallops and avocado-tomato salad.
Hard facts
The Freisinger Hof is open from 11:00 AM to midnight, Monday through Sunday. You can eat there Monday through Saturday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM (including the lunch menu) and from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. On Sundays and public holidays, the kitchen is open from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM and from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Parking should not be a problem on the street or even directly in front of the restaurant and/or hotel. The restaurant is easily accessible by tram line 16 (approximately a 4-minute walk). Card payments are accepted.

3) 2015 Vom Löss (Cuvée of Yellow Muscat and Sauvignon Blanc), Pollerhof Winery, Röschitz/Weinviertel
If you're looking for an upscale restaurant with excellent cuisine, then the Freisinger Hof is definitely the place for you. It's not just the cozy restaurant with its terrace and fantastic food that's appealing, but also the huge selection of wines. As an added bonus, the wonderful Hotel Freisinger Hof is right next door, where your friends, colleagues, business partners (etc.) could stay if they're not from Munich. In short: it's worth a visit. The terrace is picturesque and extremely peaceful. The service is competent, friendly, and well-trained. Sure, the prices are a bit higher, but you can expect food and drink par excellence.
