The great Coperlin

GOP Variety – The Great Coperlin Show – „"Glitz and glamour at the GOP Variety Theatre. Definitely with this very special and funny show! But let's start from the beginning... I recently visited the GOP Variety Theatre again. Partly for the show, which has been running since July 15th (and continues until September 5th), and partly to enjoy myself again." Leander, ...the hotel's restaurant. My visit included a delicious three-course meal and a truly hilarious evening filled with glitter, glamour, and comedy. Before I go into detail, I encourage you to get your tickets before September 5th. This was my third visit to the GOP Variety Theatre, and this show was definitely the one that made me laugh the most – as did my companion.

The big Coperlin show at the GOP Variety Theatre – What to expect

The grand Coperlin Show captivates from the very beginning with its wit and a diverse, vibrant program. Between the amusing show segments, artists showcase their talents and feats of artistry, delivering world-class performances. The show offers a spectacle as dazzling as a disco ball, combined with a healthy dose of irony. In my opinion, the show truly thrives on the (supposed) Las Vegas import, Dustin Nicolodi, aka "The Great Coperlin," who will consistently delight you with entertaining show segments, stunts, and plenty of laughs. Honestly, I was in stitches. Equally essential and entertaining are the performances by the Great Coperlin's friends from around the world: acrobatic feats, pole dancing, magic, tap dancing, plate spinning, and much more await you in this stage program. I won't spoil any more for you. If you enjoy a good laugh (and good food), this is the place to be.

Pike-perch fillet with mashed potatoes

Restaurant visit at Leander with 3 courses

At Leander's this time, I opted for a set menu. It consisted of a starter, a main course, and a dessert, which was served during the 15-minute show intermission. My starter, a watermelon salad with mint and feta cheese (€10.50), was delicious. I personally love the combination of fruit and cheese, or rather, fresh and fruity on top of intensely cheesy. So, the beautifully presented starter was a great beginning. For my main course, I had pike-perch with lemon mashed potatoes and zucchini (€21), while my companion ordered the pan-seared sirloin steak with a baked potato, a bouquet of vegetables, and homemade herbed butter (€25). Both dishes were served simultaneously and attractively presented – I could already smell the delicious fish as it was being served. The portions were generous and more than enough. The sirloin steak, which I ordered cooked medium, was indeed cooked medium (applause for a restaurant that understands the proper cooking levels – a rare occurrence these days…) and tasted delicious, with a beautifully juicy texture. The meat was tender, not tough, and, combined with the crisp vegetable side dish, at least as good as my melt-in-your-mouth pike-perch fillet.

The appetizer

To get a better idea, take a look at the pictures in the gallery below. A visit – whether on its own or including a subsequent theater performance – is definitely worthwhile. In my opinion, it's also worth it for the dessert, which, as mentioned, is served during the intermission. I had a banana parfait with a crisp chocolate ganache, served on a crusty yeast-milk brioche with a toasted Florentine crust (€9). My companion had the delicate purple lavender ice cream with honeydew melon ragout and lemon meringue tart (€7). Admittedly, it was a bit too much for me, but that was the only minor complaint I had that evening. The banana parfait was delicious, and its intense banana flavor was a first for me. Anyone who enjoys icy lavender flavor should definitely try it. Excellent.

"The Great Coperlin Show" is a GOP showconcept production directed by Detlef Winterberg and choreographed by Stefanie Erb. Tickets range in price from €39 to €44. If you'd like to enjoy a meal with the show—which I highly recommend!—prices start at €59, including the show ticket. I highly recommend booking for a Friday or Saturday and having dinner at Restaurant Leander beforehand. It's sure to be a fantastic evening with lots of laughs, great food, and a wonderful atmosphere. For me, at least, it was definitely an evening I'd repeat. I loved this show from start to finish. So grab some tickets while you still can! Oh, and one more thing... there's a trick in the show that I just can't wrap my head around. If you see the show, please explain the torn newspaper trick to me. 😉 Enjoy!.
