Selmans Restaurant and Bar – cozy and chic

What can you expect at Selmans Restaurant & Bar?

Fresh fish, high quality, and fantastic creations are on the daily agenda. Selmans Restaurant & Bar is the place to be for fish lovers, those looking for a substantial piece of meat, a plate of Asian-inspired pasta, or even just a light snack. Open for almost two years, Selmans Restaurant & Bar receives daily deliveries of fine fish, which is prepared in a variety of ways. Even a glance at the open bar, with its accents of pink, purple, and black, hints at the high-quality experience. Think pink velvet bar stools, a black-tiled bar, purple glass lamps, and cozy booths. There are also tables for two or groups. Every area of Selmans is inviting. From international cuisine and an extensive wine and whiskey list to Asian and American-inspired dishes on the menu, there's a wide range of culinary highlights to enjoy. You can order à la carte or choose from the deli counter. There you'll find a variety of salads, fresh seafood, six different main courses served in large pans, and other snacks, sandwiches and baguettes, fresh cakes, and more. As a special treat, a daily changing gourmet platter featuring a selection of fresh salads is also offered.

Selmans Restaurant & Bar is frequented by those who appreciate high-quality cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere and value good food. Gucci is located directly behind the restaurant, and next door, as mentioned, is Boconero, which also boasts excellent coffee and is a great place to try. It's the perfect spot to relax, unwind, or even just unwind before your flight. The icing on the cake is the friendly and knowledgeable service. If you have any questions about the dishes, ingredients, or anything else, just ask, and they will be happy to answer them.

A variety of dishes are available at the fresh food counter.

Food offer and selection

As mentioned, the menu is well-rounded. From Norwegian salmon gently steamed in a bamboo basket on vegetables (€16.90) or salmon sashimi (€17.90), to grilled beef fillet with glass noodles, carrots, coriander, and spring onions (€15.90), to boiled half a lobster tail with cocktail sauce (€22.90), there is a good selection of exquisite delicacies on offer. Bruschetta with Serrano ham, arugula, and mango chutney, or with cream cheese and salmon tartare (two pieces for €9.90 each), as well as salmon and tuna tartare, are also on Selman's standard menu. In addition to a club sandwich with grilled chicken breast, bacon, and egg (€14.90), there are various salads, Asian soups (Miso Soup, Tom Kha Gai, and Tom Kha Gung from €6.90), and main courses such as Filet Mignon (€24.90), sea bass fillet, and yakitori skewers. Sounds good, doesn't it? And because we're on the self-proclaimed "high street" of Munich Airport dining, they also offer Malassol black caviar from Siberian sturgeon in 30-gram portions starting at €45. The daily fresh pasta and rice dishes are displayed openly in the large pans mentioned above. Spaghetti Napoli, Chicken Teriyaki Fried Noodles, Salmon Tagliatelle, Thai Rigatoni with Shrimp or Indonesian Fried Rice „Nasi Goreng“ can be selected as a main course at any time (from €12.90 per portion).

The gourmet plate

The regional sourcing of ingredients for the entire menu is pursued as extensively and comprehensively as possible. Selmans sources everything available locally in good quality for preparing its dishes. High quality is paramount, so the fish, for example, comes from the "Deutsche See Fish Manufactory" – fresh and top-quality daily – and the bread also comes from the Munich area. If the quality isn't up to standard, the fish simply isn't on the menu or doesn't make it into the cooking pots. Also available, and particularly interesting for early birds, is a breakfast menu offering a variety of snacks and breakfast combinations at very fair prices every day until noon. Egg dishes and sandwiches – both in a wide range of styles – are available from €7.90 to a maximum of €14.90. Those who appreciate good wines and spirits should also take a look at the wine list.

The "Desserts" category deserves special mention, even though only two items are listed. Apple strudel – a particular highlight for international guests – and tiramisu (for €8.90 and €7.90 respectively). The display case also features pastries, muffins, and some homemade cakes. But the tiramisu served in a glass definitely deserves top marks. We chose it – as the final treat of our tasting – and even though I was completely full, I didn't leave a single crumb.

Desserts and coffee. Including the top-notch tiramisu.

Selection and evaluation of the dishes

It took us a while to decide. I got up twice, glanced at the deli counter – so many options were tempting – sat back down, leafed through the menu, and still couldn't make up my mind. Thanks to the friendly staff, the decision was at least made for me when it came to the starter. A super fresh and attractively presented tuna tartare (€17.90) landed on my plate. My companion was served a "gourmet platter" with a variety of salads, each in a small portion. The regular platter includes six different salads (€21.90), and you can customize the gourmet platter to your liking. We were served one extra salad for testing purposes. It's best to take a look at the photos to see for yourself how fresh the salads and dishes are. For testing purposes, we were given special treatment with the main courses, and each of the main dishes listed above was served a small tasting portion in open pans. You can see the results in the slideshow with the photos; regular portions are, of course, much larger. Personally, I enjoyed the seafood the most. In other words, I was particularly pleased with everything that used fresh fish. So, if you're in the area, I definitely recommend trying a few dishes. I especially enjoyed the Nasi Goreng and Chicken Teriyaki. Don't miss the tuna tartare or the tiramisu – both are exceptionally good and well worth ordering. At Selmans, the food is delicious, the quality is excellent, and everything is very fresh.

Facts and personal conclusion

Selmans Restaurant & Bar seats 48 guests at 14 different tables. Despite its colorful and sometimes vibrant décor, Selmans has an elegant feel, and the open layout makes you feel comfortable right away. If you have the chance to eat here before and/or after a flight, I highly recommend the delicious tuna tartare. I could have eaten a bathtub full of it! If you're looking for a souvenir, all the wines on the menu are available to buy by the bottle. This is a very popular offer from Selmans. There's no lunch menu, but airport employees can dine there at a reduced rate.
