Here is now a Asado Steak House.
We recently tried La Baracca, even though we'd heard some bad things about it. We weren't disappointed – quite the opposite. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Everything tasted great, and we went home very satisfied.
A heads-up: La Baracca will no longer be called "La Baracca" from mid-October 2013. The owner is changing, but the chef, the interior, the service, and therefore the ambiance will remain the same. What will change is the restaurant's name (still a secret), as well as the—in my opinion—incredibly great and unique system for ordering food. At the (currently) La Baracca, you order your food (until mid-October) via a small iPad, which is handed to you upon entering the very spacious, stylish, yet remarkably welcoming restaurant. The staff are happy to explain the system and how to use the device. The program itself is easy to understand, and it's fun to browse the digital menu, even after you've already decided what to order. You have virtually no contact with the staff, as the order is transmitted digitally, the food arrives very quickly (!), and the staff then withdraws.
We had two starters (bruschetta and cold cucumber soup with scampi), two main courses (linguine with scampi and pike-perch on a bed of mango and tomato with risotto), and for dessert, a chocolate-nut cake and a cappuccino. In summary, I can say that everything tasted absolutely delicious. The linguine was delicate, the scampi cooked to perfection, the cucumber soup and bruschetta divine, and the chocolate-nut cake incredibly tasty! In total, we paid €52 without tip, which the meal was definitely worth. We were very surprised by the quite low prices. The decor, the tables with the integrated technology for connecting iPads to the kitchen/bar, and the ambiance definitely suggest a more expensive experience.
The staff is friendly, but not artificial. The restaurant is incredibly large, yet cozy, thanks to room dividers that create separate seating areas. I find it a real shame that the new owners have opted for standard menus and thus eliminated the unique touch of ordering on an iPad. Perhaps we'll try the new restaurant ourselves, and I'll of course let you know what I think.
Payment is made upon leaving, directly at the exit, where you simply hand your iPads, containing your ordered dishes, to the cashier. Debit card payments are accepted.
All in all, a truly great restaurant that is a lot of fun, offers great enjoyment and a wonderful atmosphere, and positively surprises in every respect.
