PASTYLE Munich – authentic pasta from Italy – „"Chi mangia la pasta è felice." – Pretty clear, right? Translated: Whoever eats pasta is happy. And anyone who identifies with this statement will be thrilled about the new opening I'm about to introduce in the heart of our beautiful city. I'm talking about PASTLYE Munich. It's easy to see that it's all about pasta. But not just any pasta. No, it's authentic pasta, the kind you'd find in Italy. Served in a flash, always freshly prepared with the finest Italian ingredients and bursting with authentic flavor. I took a closer look at the small shop – which opened in mid-April 2019 – and sampled my way through their selection.
PASTYLE Munich – Passion and Background
This stylish little shop (seating for 20) in Munich's city center is run by Italian Edith Gallon and offers a variety of classic Italian pasta dishes. PASTYLE's mission is to return to the true essence of good pasta – without unnecessary frills, but rather with a simple and, above all, authentic selection of pasta at the right price. Both the pasta and the various sauces come directly from Italy, are made from the highest quality ingredients, and thus ensure a truly enjoyable taste experience. PASTYLE places particular emphasis on ensuring that guests understand what it's all about when enjoying their pasta and that hungry customers aren't simply eating "cheap, run-of-the-mill" pasta – quite the opposite. The highest value is placed on top-quality ingredients, absolute freshness, and, wherever possible, ingredients that are 100% Italian. The dishes you order here each consist of 120 grams of durum wheat semolina pasta (100%) and a sufficient amount of pasta sauce made according to our own recipe. I inquired further: The sauces are all developed by an Italian chef specifically for PASTYLE Munich and are perfectly matched to the respective pasta type. The result is traditional recipes and authentic Italian sauces – all, of course, free of GMOs and preservatives. Each pasta type has its own sauce.
Menu and what makes pasta special
PASTYLE's premium pasta is not only handcrafted in Italy using traditional bronze dies, but also handled with utmost care from production to serving. The Italian pasta undergoes a special cooking process that ensures it's perfectly cooked in just four minutes. Before cooking, however, the dry-stored pasta is rehydrated. Specifically, every morning the PASTYLE kitchen team soaks the pasta in cold water for several hours. While this sounds simple, it's a lengthy process designed to enhance the pasta's sensory qualities and optimally preserve its nutritional value. This allows the pasta to retain its rough surface, allowing sauces to adhere better and be absorbed more effectively, resulting in a harmonious and intense flavor experience of consistently high quality.

Cozy, isn't it?
Let's take a look View of the map. Six different types of pasta, each with a complementary sauce, are on offer. Orders are placed at the counter, and once your order number appears on the display, you can pick up your meal and return to your seat. A selection of chilled drinks – both classic and Italian – is also available. So, which pasta would you try first? 1.) Penne all'arrabbiata, 2.) Spaghetti pomodoro e basilico, 3.) Farfalle al pesto alla genovese, 4.) Rigatoni alla norma, 5.) Penne alla puttanesca, 6.) Fusilli alla bolognese. The menu also includes... Changing soups,These products are made in a small Italian manufactory exclusively for PASTYLE Munich. Here again, the focus is on quality and Italian origin. Typical Italian vegetables and ingredients are used – such as spelt, lentils, hemp seeds, peas, Saragolla durum wheat, thyme, broccoli rabe, chickpeas, pumpkin, potatoes, and ginger. Sweet snacks like amaretti – also from select Italian producers – are available to enjoy afterward.

I tried my way through the entire range. My favorite: Rigatoni alla norma.
…and this is how it tasted
Even with the first bite, you can taste the difference – at least if you're an experienced pasta lover. It's not just a matter of attention to detail, but also of truly excellent quality in both the pasta and the sauce. Edith herself puts it this way: "We're proud of our products, and we want our guests to taste that we place great value on high-quality ingredients. Anyone who takes the time to savor the flavors will clearly recognize the difference compared to conventional pasta and sauce." She continues: "We might not be the cheapest pasta place in the center of Munich, but anyone who eats with us will quickly recognize the crucial difference and will gladly pay an extra euro or two for our satisfying and healthy pasta." I agree. With prices between €5.90 and €6.90 and the aforementioned 120 grams, you'll definitely leave full and with a delicious meal. Another plus: you won't have to wait longer than five minutes for your pasta – whether you eat in or take it to go. So it's quick, easy, filling, and healthy to boot. Environmentalists are once again clapping their hands when it comes to the packaging. It's biodegradable, made from renewable resources, and you can even bring your own container (campaign "One without, please"). Then your pasta and sauce will be packed in there, and there will be absolutely no waste. Conclusion: All about „Meraviglioso“!
Something else worth knowing.
For the next few months, the menu will remain as you currently find it at PASTYLE Munich. During the winter, or whenever the season and available ingredients allow, the menu will change, offering new creations as well as new sauces and soups. If you're looking for inspiration or ideas on which pasta and sauce combination to try during your visit, the friendly staff will be happy to offer suggestions in addition to the suggested combinations. My tip: Stick to the guidelines; in my opinion, that's how the combinations taste best (…Bolognese with spaghetti is pretty „German,“ after all. ;-)). Oh, and by the way… Until the end of Oktoberfest, a PASTYLE rickshaw will be cruising around Munich. It will not only take you wherever you want to go, but it will also make the anticipation for your first plate of PASTYLE pasta even greater (…and of course, it stops right in front of the PASTYLE Munich shop). Just keep an eye out for the decorated bicycle-drawn carriage in the city center. Now, let's get going! Reservations aren't possible, parking is a pain, so head to the Viktualienmarkt subway station.
